Junk! Worst Car I Have Ever Owned
I bought this car 6 weeks ago (2002 TJ Magna Advance Wagon) with 140,000kms on the clock.
Very neat and well looked after example. It drove beautiful. I had it serviced (plugs, timing belt, transmission, etc.) and new tyres fitted at a cost of almost $1500. The car decided to just stop while driving 2 weeks ago. Been told by 2 mechanics and Mitsubishi dealer it is not worth repairing. Great, I am now $$$$ out of pocket. First and last Mitsubishi I will ever buy, absolute garbage! 1/5 star rating is very generous. Should have stuck with a Ford, more reliable than these pieces of junk!
It was great for the first 4 weeks!
Most unreliable car I have ever owned. Very poor service from Mitsubishi dealer.

Fantastic Vehicle, financially I could upgrade to a new car anytime I like however we like this car so much we've kept it and wont be upgrading until it's mechanically worn out. It's a shame the Maga no is no longer made but if you are looking at buying one you realy will not be dissapointed.
We have an automatic 1999 TJ Magna Sport Sedan which we bought as a Mitsubishi Executive driven demo and my gosh is this a good car! It has plenty of power and goes round corners like it's on rails. The build quality is fantastic with superb ride and handl...Read more
ing. Large boot space and good fuel economy (Approx 10Lt/100km combined town & hwy driving). I drive many different new fleet sedans each day at work (Falcon, Commodore, Aurion) and always smile when I get back into our Magna Sport because, for comfort, build quality and performace theee newer cars are no better. The clear coat on the paint has started to go milky in patches on the bonnet and I had the spoiler resprayed, this is a bit disspoainting as I have really cared for the duco. We love the car so much the it will be booked in for a bonnet respray soon. The factory stereo is pathetic too but that's a simple upgrade.

Brilliant vehicle. I would happily buy another one if they were still in production. Magnas were my car of choice in my work fleet until a change in management lumbered us with Holdens.
Lots of space for 3 kids and a (big) dog. Comfortable to ride in and quiet compared to other vehicles the same age. Reliable and have only had to spend money on it for regular services and a few small things that wear out, until recently when we had the heater matrix start leaking. Replacement of this was half the price quoted by our mechanic, based on his exper...Read more

Best car i've ever had
Having bought this car from new (2002 VR-X Magna) it has driven like a dream and still does. The fact that it was the first Australian made car with 5 speed tiptronic, digital climate control and looks to make Holden and Ford owners jealous made up for it being front wheel drive. I still drive like I stole it and although FWD it corners like it's on rails. As i've wanted to update my vehicle i'm having a very hard time finding a car around $40k with the features this car had back in 2002. Definitely a car ahead of it's time and still unmatchabl...Read more

Best car ever
I've owned a 02' Magna VRX for almost six years and it really is the best car I've ever owned. It is super reliable and has just as much power now as it did when I bought it. It looks better than falcons and commodores and is quicker than them too. In 6 years the car has not had one mechanical problem and servicing has only ever involved routine things.
The only thing that has ever gone wrong with this car has been electrics related. The fuel quantity indicator broke making me think I had a fuel leak, but that was easy fix. And the CD player...Read more
broke a couple of years ago but it was crapola anyway so just replace it with a better one. Has a big turning circle and re-sale isn't the best but that's about all I can think of? If you want a cheap, reliable, fast, good looking car, forget commodores and falcons, go the magna. Bring them back Mitsubishi! Super reliable, fast, looks great, spacious, Factory sound systemSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

TJ xr, we found it with all the features, including window rain-guards, spoiler, rear-window light... Totally AWESOME. We are so appreciative we found the best car, for our first family car.
This car is reliable, comfortable, practical... the biggest boot space EVER... fits a twin jogger pram in! goes like??? Brilliant power, especially off the mark... even after 10 years! So funny when revheads try and overtake thinking you are going to be slow, and the pick-up leaves them behind in the dust ;)
It wont last forever! Stereo has now got a wiring short somewhere. My son has drawn on the inside of his door.

I've had my 1998 Magna Advance since new. I still have it but only as an extra car. Early in it's life it suffered hail damage and those repairs now mean that the paint has lost it's clear coat and i... Read more
s looking ugly. It just keeps going, is worth nothing and costs very little to keep, so what can I do? It does about 6000km per year and keeps the Ks off my good car (a Mazda 6) and does the dirty jobs. It has broken down a few times at battery end of life. You need to be careful because if the battery goes totally flat the engine's computer forgets how to idle. It needed a visit to the dealer the first time but since then Ive been careful, lucky, because for a while all the Mitsubishi dealers disappeared around here. The air conditioner broke few years ago, but that's all that ever went wrong. It has 180,000k now.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Love our magna. We have a TJ 2001 sedan and it runs very well. We bought it second hand and has never failed a day. Parts are cheap as chips for the car and servicing never seems to be expensive. We had a Ford Mondeo to start with and it was a pain to find parts for and always expensive to fix. Have already managed to talk a friend into buying one and she is happy with hers too!
Very reliable car. You can pretty much run these into the ground and they still get back up to drive another day!
Not much to dislike at all...

A really good performer and while it doesn't have the creature comforts of our previous Magna, an Elite, it does the job and quite pleasantly as well.
Ours is a TJ Sports mfg 2000 and we bought new 2001. Really impressive power when needed (on the Kings Highway this matters), long distance economy acceptable (720k on 115kph cruise control), none of the trim has fallen off or broken or ceased to work except the radio, pulls the boat and heavily laden trailers with ease up and down steep slopes where the ability to switch to sequential gearing is...Read more

The Magna 2000 model is a dream to drive I absolutly love it and would get this car over any other if I ever had to buy another car
Glove box could be bigger there is a lot of waste on the dash big area small glovebox

I would recommend the Magna as a good overall family car. Due to bad publicity it's had an effect on the value of the Magna which people must wonder why are they so cheap to buy compared to say Toyota. I found that it is a value for dollar car which is worth a lot more then you pay. I would value the 05 model as being worth at least 22-24 grand and we could have bought it for 16500 drive away. It had everything. We chose to watch our budget and purchase a 02 model that a elderly gentleman had and it is in spotless condition for 11 grand. That c...Read more
ar was worth 34 grand new and it still drives like a new car. I cannot see the sense in wasting that amount of money when we will own this car for a good couple of years and maybe only loose 5 grand when we trade but I can tell you that we will have our money's worth. I rate this car a 5 out of 5. Comfortable car to drive, responsive power, it delivers is reassuring when you need it, excellent on fuel economy, was not expensive in terms of what you get. Is there any? Well the remote decides to not work sometimes but it's no drama to use the key. Ours is the 2002 model and I guess something has to be a pain.Similar opinion? This car is now a bargain in car yards. A good one with low kays will set you back a lot less than a comparable Holden or Ford and is a much better car, IMHO. They were even sold in the US (as the "Diamante") and, as such, were designed to sell against BMWs! They are a credit to the soon to be closed Tonsley Park SA factory and its workers.
Brilliant handling in my TJ (2001) Magna Solara, great build quality, powerful engine and good economy for a large car. The best car I have ever owned (and I've owned many cars in my years), bar none. They are a credit to Mitsubishi Australia and it's quite sad to see the company is no longer making cars here.
The only negative is that the car has a big turning circle compared with RWD cars.

For a fairly large car with a big 6 cylinder engine, it's quite economical to run. Servicing costs are very low and I have never had to take it back to the dealer for any quality problems and its reliability is the reason I have kept it for over 5 years now. An excellent car for town or long interstate trips. The best car I have ever owned.
Firstly, I am referring to a 2001 model. Elegant looks, particularly the turret line, pillarless windows, smooth auto, powerful and great sounding engine, excellent build quality.
Front seats are awkwardly bolstered and the seat lacks feel and adequate range of adjustment. Low speed ride not exactly plush but improves with speed. Paint scratches easily.

Have never regretted choosing to buy it. Has given me no problems in eight years of use. Would buy another if they still made them.
(Touch wood) have never had a problem with my Magna which I have owned since new in 2000. For its size it is reasonably economical has loads of space (but see below), good for around town or on a long country drive. I keep thinking I should replace it but always come to the conclusion - why should I as the modern models are not that much better.
Boot and /or back seat are not big enough to take our mountain bikes. Resale value is low, another reason I hang on to it.

Overall it's a great car... for the long drive for a family holiday... on half a tank I got to the top of Tasmania and back down... without topping up at all... however going through Hobart on half a tank... I would nearly be empty when I get home.
Pick up is awesome!!! I have raced BMW's, Supra's... even tuned cars and my factory Magna has beaten them all.
If it had GPS It would be so good...
Still buy one over a Commodore, Falcon & Camry. It's so much better than all of them... Ride is also very smooth when the tyres are at about 35-40ps...Read more
i. Great Pick up from stand still. Very Economical on long trips. Plenty of space. Luxury of a Lexus (Minus GPS). Factory Sound System Is Great. Chews through petrol in the city. Engine can change gears at odd times. Brakes Squeak a lot. Need brighter headlights.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

All in all I would buy another one if they still made them as I love wagons over sedans but no one is going to make wagons as Ford and Holden are going for the Captiva and Territory and if I want an AWD or 4WD I'll actually buy a real 4WD. I moved house using the wagon four times and could fit a queen size mattress and base inside. The car was previously owned for a photocopying company and we all know how well people look after company cars so that being the case and it being seven years old I am happy with what I have got out of the car for t...Read more
he price I paid for it (I paid what people are paying now for it two years ago, must have been my wonderful charm :)) and I've only had to pay for it's normal servicing. I also got the windows tinted after one Summer and the next Summer I did notice the difference. Sapre tyre is easily accessible and easy to change. As said before I would buy another one but when we sell this one we want a new car and they no longer make them :( A friend has a fairmont wagon with two car seats on either side and you can not fit an adult in the middle whereas, surprisingly, we can fit an adult in between our two seats. All in all, an awesome car and highly recommended to anyone!!! Storage room considering it's not as big as a Holden/Ford. The auto "cuts out" leaving me with no power occasionally (four times in two years) when going up hills (thankfully, has never done it while overtaking but is a constant worry). There is a noise inside the car coming from the fuel tank, which has been looked at by Mitsubishi, Toyota and Ford and can not be fixed but it is only noticeable when their is no other noise in the car. Driver's side rear passenger window no longer shuts properly and has leaked rain through the back seat belt plastic coverings twice in two years. The trip computer beeping when the car has been driven every twenty hours (it just scares me when it goes off, although I should be used to it by now). Complete back seat folds down at same time and would have prefered 60/40 split so I could still have one child in it but then again it's not safe to be carrying kids when cargo can fly around.Similar opinion? I have a 2001 Magna, 3.5 auto, idling at lights and stalled, have spark and fuel, good compression, oil water good, replace ecu, Ben and ignition, second hard but all from same. Car turns over nicely simply won’t start. Have mechanics look at still no joy. Any ideas!

I use Reliable Automatics and Automotive in Albion, Brisbane. Sounds like the mechanics you use are pretty sub standard.

Put a new ecu in my 04 Magna and it wont start, turns over but thats it.

You ought to have gone to a half decent auto-electrician instead of thinking you were smart enough to do something of which you knew nothing about.
These problems sound like issues relating to the security system not reading the chip embedded in the key....if you change your ecu you must use the key of the car that the ecu came from...ie change ignition lock as well or do some surgery and somehow remove the chip from your cars key and graft the key chip of the ecu donor car on .. specialist job I think
