Junk! Worst Car I Have Ever Owned

    published

I bought this car 6 weeks ago (2002 TJ Magna Advance Wagon) with 140,000kms on the clock.
Very neat and well looked after example. It drove beautiful. I had it serviced (plugs, timing belt, transmission, etc.) and new tyres fitted at a cost of almost $1500. The car decided to just stop while driving 2 weeks ago. Been told by 2 mechanics and Mitsubishi dealer it is not worth repairing. Great, I am now $$$$ out of pocket. First and last Mitsubishi I will ever buy, absolute garbage! 1/5 star rating is very generous. Should have stuck with a Ford, more reliable than these pieces of junk!
It was great for the first 4 weeks!
Most unreliable car I have ever owned. Very poor service from Mitsubishi dealer.

TJ xr, we found it with all the features, including window rain-guards, spoiler, rear-window light... Totally AWESOME. We are so appreciative we found the best car, for our first family car.
This car is reliable, comfortable, practical... the biggest boot space EVER... fits a twin jogger pram in! goes like??? Brilliant power, especially off the mark... even after 10 years! So funny when revheads try and overtake thinking you are going to be slow, and the pick-up leaves them behind in the dust ;)
It wont last forever! Stereo has now got a wiring short somewhere. My son has drawn on the inside of his door.

Love our magna. We have a TJ 2001 sedan and it runs very well. We bought it second hand and has never failed a day. Parts are cheap as chips for the car and servicing never seems to be expensive. We had a Ford Mondeo to start with and it was a pain to find parts for and always expensive to fix. Have already managed to talk a friend into buying one and she is happy with hers too!
Very reliable car. You can pretty much run these into the ground and they still get back up to drive another day!
Not much to dislike at all...

I think the Magna looks classy especially the gold coloured one drives wonderfully is smooth and has fantastic take of power.
The Magna 2000 model is a dream to drive I absolutly love it and would get this car over any other if I ever had to buy another car
Glove box could be bigger there is a lot of waste on the dash big area small glovebox

This car is now a bargain in car yards. A good one with low kays will set you back a lot less than a comparable Holden or Ford and is a much better car, IMHO. They were even sold in the US (as the "Diamante") and, as such, were designed to sell against BMWs! They are a credit to the soon to be closed Tonsley Park SA factory and its workers.
Brilliant handling in my TJ (2001) Magna Solara, great build quality, powerful engine and good economy for a large car. The best car I have ever owned (and I've owned many cars in my years), bar none. They are a credit to Mitsubishi Australia and it's quite sad to see the company is no longer making cars here.
The only negative is that the car has a big turning circle compared with RWD cars.

For a fairly large car with a big 6 cylinder engine, it's quite economical to run. Servicing costs are very low and I have never had to take it back to the dealer for any quality problems and its reliability is the reason I have kept it for over 5 years now. An excellent car for town or long interstate trips. The best car I have ever owned.
Firstly, I am referring to a 2001 model. Elegant looks, particularly the turret line, pillarless windows, smooth auto, powerful and great sounding engine, excellent build quality.
Front seats are awkwardly bolstered and the seat lacks feel and adequate range of adjustment. Low speed ride not exactly plush but improves with speed. Paint scratches easily.

Have never regretted choosing to buy it. Has given me no problems in eight years of use. Would buy another if they still made them.
(Touch wood) have never had a problem with my Magna which I have owned since new in 2000. For its size it is reasonably economical has loads of space (but see below), good for around town or on a long country drive. I keep thinking I should replace it but always come to the conclusion - why should I as the modern models are not that much better.
Boot and /or back seat are not big enough to take our mountain bikes. Resale value is low, another reason I hang on to it.

I have a 2001 Magna, 3.5 auto, idling at lights and stalled, have spark and fuel, good compression, oil water good, replace ecu, Ben and ignition, second hard but all from same. Car turns over nicely simply won’t start. Have mechanics look at still no joy. Any ideas!

I use Reliable Automatics and Automotive in Albion, Brisbane. Sounds like the mechanics you use are pretty sub standard.

You ought to have gone to a half decent auto-electrician instead of thinking you were smart enough to do something of which you knew nothing about.

These problems sound like issues relating to the security system not reading the chip embedded in the key....if you change your ecu you must use the key of the car that the ecu came from...ie change ignition lock as well or do some surgery and somehow remove the chip from your cars key and graft the key chip of the ecu donor car on .. specialist job I think
