Reliable car, but....
X-trail is very reliable car, it has space, comfortable seats, and easy to drive, but after reaching almost 50000 miles, the suspension becomes very firm, the car wont start from the first time, and the AC will break down every summer, its very unstable as well, not recommended for in high speeds.

I have done 60,000kms in the car now and over half of them would be on the dirt. The only thing i had to change on the car was tyres to get better performance from it. One of the other reviewers said that when on the sand his 4WD cut out that is because that locks all the wheels and you do not need that to drive on the sand it is only for short stints driving on slopes, ice, or pulling a boat off a slippery boat ramp. I have towed my 4.35m barra boat all through the top end of aust with it and had only a problem with ground clearance because a...Read more
ll the traks are made by landcrusers and patrols and are quite wide and deep. And as long as you drive the car the right way!! you can take it anywere a standard landcruser or patrol can go. I have also done 1m deep river crossings and the car is quite water tight. X-Trail Ti: Heaps of space, lots of power the AWD system works very well in all conditions, great sound system, rides well on heavly corrigated dirt roads, towing capacity, fuel consumption on highway. Standard tyres are crap for off road, road noise with chunky tyre and last of all ground clearance.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

n all round good car
I have been running around in a mates x-trail (I think its an 07 model - Petrol Auto) as a result of my car being written off after I was t-boned.
I dunno what I expected when I first got in, but I found the car quite comfortable, and ergonomically good - except for the dash in the middle, which would have worked if it were angled toward you, but the new model has rectified that...of sort. With the dash in the middle the few of the bonnet and the road is allot better, but I couldn't get used to it and would take the sacrafice and have the gu...Read more
ages in the normal spot. The interior is quite practical, but the lack of any real form of centre console and integrated arm rest made the car more of a buisness than pleasure experience. The gearbox shifted well, and the initial throttle responce was quite good. There was probably too much engine noise for my liking under load, though it was smooth. Overall handling was quite good and steering was well weighted and predictable. Ride height, robust interior, city friendly nature. Lack of centre arm rest, engine noise under load.

So now with a pre end of warranty inspection by Boettcher Motors Ipswich, they didn't pick up the leaking transfer seal. Now 6 weeks out of warranty, another service provided picked it up. So why didn't Nissan recall and fix them all. The service provider has fixed heaps with this same problem. Boettcher Motors admitted it has the problem with all the X-trails up to the current year. They have noted the problem and fixed it for the 2008 model. SO why not a recall? Why don't they fix it for free? Because it is a five hour job, that is wh...Read more

Told by repairer that they have had heaps in to repair. SO WHY DIDN'T NISSAN RECALL AND FIX THEM ALL!!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

A very good car and one we will keep for years. We got a demo model with 5000kms on the clock and it has never let us down. The 4WD auto function is fantastic in the wet and gives you extremely good traction. Nice and light if you wanted to go on sand. In all a very good buy for the price.
The features it comes standard with are very good quality. The rubber matts seem to last forever and the towbar is unbreakable. Ample power with the 2.4L 4 cyclinder.
A bit of a fuel guzzler on the highway when the cruise control is switched on. The quality of the original tyres are suspect as well.

we purchased a used 04 model this year as we needed a bigger car after having our 1st bub. i would highly reccomend this car, it is very roomy with many different storage compartments, one of the functions we love are the drink holders with built in coolers - these were great when trying to keep bubs milk cold. another benefit is that although they are a bigger car and awd it is only 4 cyl so great on fuel.
love love love this car, great visibilty, pleanty of room and spcae, boot opens up not to the side like other awds
the odometers are in the centre of dash and in some conditions there is glare which makes the dials hard to read

It's a great crossover apart from the minor steering and ride comfort issues. The fuel consumption is amazing!.And the towing is spectacular. My favourite thing about the car is the styling. The styling is not too girly but it doesn't look angry.
Very good space, great fuel effiency and towing.
Ride comfort and steering.

OK
This is a great car overall. The interior is nice and well designed. There are nice spaces for storage. My main issue with this car is the brakes. I worked for a Nissan dealership for a few years and one of the main expenses on this car was brake replacement. Often they would need replacing by 30,000km. This would often entail replacing the disc rotors as well. Overall quite an expensive exercise, costing just under $1000. I also found the seats somewhat hard to sit on for long periods of time.
Nice interior
Brakes wear out too quickly. Seats are OK

Tip - don't buy the Nissan pads and rotors, go DBA rotors and Bendix or other good pads and they last ages unless you are heavy on the brakes. Stock nissan items are too soft and wear out quickly

We've had our X-Trail now for close to 6 years and done a lot of travelling with it. I think the fuel economy is very good for a vehicle of its size and it has got a bit of get up and go as well. I'm hoping to hang onto it for a little longer although getting up to 225,000 in km's travelled is pushing it. But a very reliable and easy car to drive.
I like the road presence. It's can handle the off road stuff no problems as it has good ground clearance.
Sometimes a blind spot at the "B" pillar. Would be better if it was a little larger inside.

ST-S bought new. Some x-trails seem to have no problems, but if you look around there are a fair share that do. It's a bit of a lottery.
Very well designed. Great use of space. We actually like the centre console dash, it makes better use of space on the dash and you can always see it regardless of where your hands or the steering wheel is.
Awful quality. Two wheel bearings, two shocks and an engine mount all failed within first 40,000km. Fuel economy is way below that quoted. 12l/100km+ around town, and between 9 and 10l/100km on highway. Nissan servicing and warranty have the worst customer service of any company I've ever used. 7 week turnaround on warranty claims that affect road worthiness, and rejected!

We have a 2/07 ST-S Limited Edition and it is great. It has the sunroof (that rarely gets opened) and heaps of room for kids, luggage, prams, car seats - the works. I would happily buy another X Trail once this one gets a few years up it.
I love the fact that it sits slightly higher than your average sedan, which makes visibility better while driving, plus having a small motor means it uses much less petrol.
I really don't like having the driver's console dials in the middle of the dashboard. At least the current model they had the sense to put them back in front of the driver! The stereo is a little bit tinny but works fine.

We purchased the 2007 ST-S auto about a month ago as it ticked all the boxes for what we wanted in a vehicle and suited our budget. We love it! We do quite a bit of travelling around on weekends and needed a vehicle with plenty of room to accommodate a 3 way camping fridge and other luggage. The extra 12 volt socket in the boot is a real plus for us as we can plug in the fridge, as well as the extra 12 volt socket in the front driver's storage compartment which we use to plug in the Tom Tom. There are plenty of hidden storage compartments in th...Read more
e dash area which is also a plus. The front seats are very comfortable, there is plenty of room in the back for passengers and it's easy to get in and out of the vehicle. Doing the shopping is a breeze as bags can be hung over the luggage hooks to prevent them from rolling around in the back. We're also impressed by how well this vehicle handles in the wet weather and how smoothly it drives on the freeway. We haven't taken it off road yet so can't comment on the 4WD aspect. We weren't sure about how we would cope with the dash layout in the centre but soon became accustomed to it and now prefer it this way. My partner's a bit of a leadfoot and I can now keep an eye on his speed without cricking my neck! I have found that the vision is great while driving but need to be conscious that cars are much closer than they appear to be in the side mirrors. It's a bit disappointing that there is no bluetooth or ipod dock but this can be easily fixed by installing a bluetooth car kit if you really need it.Similar opinion? I like the X-trail. You wouldn't know its only 4 cylinders. Mine has done the Strzlecki, Birdsville & Oodnadatta tracks with no extra gew-gaws besides tyres. Cut 6" off a foam single mattress & call it a compact campervan. The dog loves it too.
Flat, easily-cleaned space in back when back seats folded forward; sleep in it; haul firewood or furniture.
Small lidded space back left side ideal for a dog's waterbowl.
Extra power outlet at back right side & in driver's glovebox.
Separate passenger & driver glove boxes.

Love my Xtrail
While on holiday in Darwin in 2007 we hired a Xtrail for 10 days. We were carrying 4 adults and it was just after the worst of the wet season and some roads were still closed to cars. We had no trouble at all driving around Lichfield National Park and the highway driving was smooth.
Plenty of space for our luggage and comfortable seating. We were so impressed with the Xtrail we bought one on returning to Brisbane. Best thing we have done. Handles the city driving really well and because we have rear reverse sensors - parking is a breeze. Tows well when we are off camping.
The only fault I have is the position of the wing mirror adjustment control and am happy to see it has been moved to the drivers door.

I bought my X-trail 2005 brand new Ti model (middle range) and paid $40000 for it. But the car only valued at $16,500 in 2008 when I tried to sell it. It's a great car, but there are so many on the road. ONE main disadvantage about 2005 model is that the back seat doesn't fold down completely flat, so it's that good for storage. Apparently some other X-trail models' back seats can be folded down completely.
Higher suspension is really good - can see traffic ahead easily. Heaps of room inside. Also there is heaps of space between the windscreen ...Read more

I think it's a great 'family' car, however I took it on the beach and the 4X4 light came on after 20 min of driving, this means the car goes in to front wheel drive mode only. This is not ideal when driving on sand! Some people call these cars "soft roaders" and if you keep this in mind you can't go wrong.
X-Trail Ti: The car goes well off road as well as on road.Unreal twin spot caliper brakes. The engine makes good power. If you get the luxury pack it comes with just about everything accept a coffee machine.
Nissan claim 10 litres per 100km (no chance), try 12 litres per 100km.Interior scratches very easy.Cup holders when used also scratch the dashboard. In the automatic version you cannot empty the ash tray without selecting a gear.

As a vehicle for either country or city it is an excellent vehicle but it is not a good towing car due to the lack of power. It is a 2.5 litre motor but think it's ability to tow 2,000 kg is over rated. I would not like to try any serious off road usage in this vehicle.
Easy to drive, good visibility seats very comfortable
Underpowered for towing a caravan considering it has a rating of towing 2000 kg

OK car at best, I got better fuel consumption for long distance drives from my 3.0 Deisel Patrol than this car, very disastisfied with that. Tows well, even heavier caravans. Regularly do 800km/week and apart from the fuel consumption (9.7l/100km) a reasonable little car.
X-Trail Ti: Good 4WD capabilities for an entry level 4wd, good towing ability, good around town
Poor fuel consumption, plastic surrounds scratch/mark too easily

I have a 2002 Nissan xtrail It has blown the Head gasket. I have spent a lot of money of late repairing the suspension, new tyres brakes and rotars front and back. I have also had the motor reconditioned once before. Do I get the head gasket repaired or do I get a motor from the wreckers for around $900 to install will cost me approximately $1600
