Update after 6 years
Excellent fuel consumption from the auto. Normally around 8.6 l/100km. Comfortable on long distances. Great tourer. Not sure about the rated 3000kg towing capacity though! (more like 2.5k) 4X4 capability quite acceptable I have no need to climb mountains any more. Paint work will fade like all new cars. reversing lights are poor, even when fitted with stronger bulbs.
Great car. Drives well, comfortable with plenty of space.Fuel consumption. Looks good.
Hate the small instruments on the dash Problem with fuel gague never showing full. Apparently a commom thing for this model.

Reasonably good car
We own an petrol, automatic 2006 Nissan X trail ST-S. We purchased it second-hand 2years ago. It has been a very reliable car and It is very cost-effective to fix. It is quite a good family car. We have 3 children under 4 and we can fit all their cars eats across the back seat. The boot size is great but it does require a carpet boot mat as the plastic base is very slippery. We have a cargo barrier in our boot which is also recommended so that no one cops a bag of groceries in the back of the head if the driver brakes suddenly. The ride height ...Read more
is good and the seats are comfy. The speedo & tacho in the middle of the dash is a bit of a dumb feature but no real complaints about that. We have taken our x trail off road a few times and it has been fine. We have crossed large rivers in it and gone places that you cannot access in a sedan. Our biggest complaint is that it is quite 'thirsty' and has terrible body roll. I get quite car sick in the front seat as a passenger because of the body roll. It's so bad it also makes you feel like you could tip over! Other complaints are that the steering is very light which can exacerbate drifting if you are not careful. The interior is also not very pleasing to the eye and the back row has no air vents for heating or cooling. And one other complaint is that it is gutless, which I suppose is to be expected - It's a heavy 4cyl car with virtually no torque (having said that, we have towed a trailer full of sand but it strrruuugled to get up hills). Overall, this car has suited us well and has met our needs. Roomy. Large boot. Comfortable. Well priced, family 4x4. Fuel economy not great. Lacks power. Terrible body roll. Steering is a bit too light. Interior is unattractive & outdated. No air vents in the back row.1 comment

Best Car I Ever Owned
My 2003 Ti Luxury X-Trail has been the best car i have ever owned and driven. I usually buy another car every 1.5-2 years however I held onto my X-Trail for over 3 years and only sold it as it had nearly reached 200,000kms. If the kms where lower I'd still be driving it. Not only did I enjoy driving this car it has been the most reliable and practical car and is also the perfect size and not to big for city car parking. The car also offers plenty of room to seat 4-5 adults rather comfortably. My only 2 issues with this car was that the cam and ...Read more
crank angle sensors needed to be replaced as it failed at 190,000 kms this was only a $220 problem to fix at my local auto electrician. The other problem was the front passenger electric window switch stopped working so we just purchased a second hand switch from the wreckers for $30 and fitted it ourselves. The other great thing about these X-Trails is that they are everywhere and are easy to find replacement parts. I kept mine serviced ever 10,000 kms and never had any other issues. I am actually looking at selling the car I just replaced it with to buy an X-Trail again. All the room for a medium sized car, reliability, the massive sunroof, the way the back seats fold down flat and the location of the cruise control on the steering wheel so you don't have to take your hands off it. The interior does look very dated when you compare it to other cars that age, it would have been better with air vents in the back.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great reliable car
I have a 2007 ti model and I would recommend this to anyone with a family. It has loads of room and is fairly economical on petrol due to the smaller engine size. It faults are in its power and lack of extras. But I have a manual which seems to negate the power issue and the cars features have since been upgraded in later models.
size, price and economy
Power is a bit short. CD play won't play mp3

The best car I ever owned
I bought my x trail brand new and had to sell it 200,000. Totally reliable, consistanly getting 8.5L/100km. awesome on fuel for a SUV that size. Handles great, sounds and goes great with a sports exhaust system. Very comfortable. Heaps of room. I would buy another one today if I could.
Performance, handling, reliability, fuel economy, Comfort, Standard features on the Ti, towing ability.

We have an '03 model, and have never had any mechanical problems with it whatsoever. We recommend x-trails without fault, and will be looking at upgrading to a newer model when this one gets a little older.
We absolutely love our x-trail, it has loads of space for our prams/pets etc, and the removeable tough-deck panels in the boot are so easy to hose off to clean. It handles like a small car, is really easy to park, and uses less fuel than we anticipated, and when we've used it in 4wd off road, it's been really easy to handle (even for a lady ...Read more

I test drove just about every SUV on the market, and this X-Trail is far ahead of the rest. One contributor here, mentions the tyre squeal ( wheel spin )on take off at the lights. This can be eliminated by leaving the AWD selector in "Auto", or just selecting Auto on take off, then switching back to 2WD if desired. Also, don't scrimp on fuel type. Use 98 Octane, and you will get better economy and cleaner running.

This car is an excellent all rounder, I love it
This car does everything I need. OK, its a bit old man for my age group, but I don't care. It is great for launching my boat off the beach, great for off roading as well. The X-Trail goes way further than you would ever expect. The clutch seems a little weak, but the engine and gearbox have been fault free thus far. ( currently on 170,000km) It is very comfortable on the road, and when off road, doesn't appear too soft at all, I have never bottomed out the suspension. Fuel economy is fine for an SUV, lots of space for rear passengers, specially when you recline the rear sits slightly.
Comfort, off road ability, reliability, versatile

X-Trail TI 2002 model +350,000km and no real roblems
Had since new. Have used the car for towing 17ft pop top and loaded 8x5 trailer.
Early problems with oxygen analyser but otherwise as no surprises.
Recommend dismantling to clean radiator every 100k as it gets clogged. Radiator replaced at 320k.
It has been the best car ever. Comfortable, good seating position for large driver, reasonable fuel economy on straight 91 unleaded but not on E-10 (even when towing if driven around max 2500 rpm), and I will be buying another in 2012.
Seating comfort, seating position, overall economy, towing characteristics.

A versitile go anywhere do anything family car not pretending to be a luxury soft roader. Probably would buy another one but there are too many alternatives atm in the 35k - 45k price bracket. Nissan dealership at Liverpool service department is pathetic do not use them for scheduled services, they play stupid to warranty claims and are not very helpful. I used a local mechanic for 10000km service with Nissan Oil/Filter plus tyre rotation and balance and as per log book, it cost me only $120 with better service and attention to detail.

2.0 petrol engine is dangerously under powered
Had a 2004 X-Trail 2.5 for 5 years. No issues whatsoever during the entire life of the car. We traveled almost 130,000km in that time with no issues whatsoever. The petrol engine was slightly thirsty but we didn't travel huge km's so not really a problem. We loved the dynamics and interior space of the car and decided after a short break to get another. The 2.0 litre 2WD seemed like the obvious choice as we don't need 4WD. That was until we actually drove one. What a massive disappointment. Maybe it would have been better in manual form but as w...Read more
e needed an auto, that's what we had the misfortune of driving. Totally under powered. I know an X-Trail isn't a performance car but the thought of trying to overtake a truck on an an open road was just plain scary. We ended up buying a Subaru Outback with 30,000km on the clock and have never looked back. Good Interior Space. Keep Away from the 2.0 engine. Small engine belongs in the Dualis only and even then only in manual guise.4 comments

Transmission rebuilt at 110,000K No Support From Nissan Australia
My Ti X-trail has been trouble free until 3 weeks ago, when it started to jolt starting off in low gear or slowing down in low gear. Took it to my Nissan dealer, who had to remove the transmission and rebuild because a condenser failed. The car whilst being a 2004 model has only just exceeded the 100,000K warranty. I have asked through my dealer for Nissan Australia to assist with some of the $3,369 cost to repair as a sign of Good Will because I believe when you buy a top of the range vehicle for $46,000 you expect to get fair and reasonable mi...Read more
leage before you have major issues with the transmission, certainly not at 110,000K, especially as this vehicle has never been off road of harshly treated, This is my second X-trail and I am disapointed with Nissan Australia's lack of Interest, Iam sure I could have bought a new cheap $13,000 vehicle that would of lasted longer than 110,000K without a major concern occurring. Hard to dislike!
Bought 2nd hand in '09 with 120000 country ks from a dealer. Had looked hard at Honda CRV and RAV 4 but liked the space, power and ride of the Nissan. Was a bit hesitant at the time about the towing capacity, and light steering and handling as i was coming out of a falcon wagon. After 3 years and another 50000ks I have been pleasantly surprised at how likeable the eXXy has become - just like those favourite trackies you always find yourself wearing. leaning out, and auto Park lock switch arm needed re-bending in order to get out of Park. Tows great (handles better with a load) Seating position is comfortable for a 6' driver, plenty of space for adult passengers. Ride is sufficiently smooth and quiet at highway speeds. Boxy shape is practical for large bulky load carrying and seats fold flat quickly for a flat floor. X-Trail owners online forum provides great support and advice. Digital lcd odometer time etc readout is difficult to see in centre instrument panel. Rear windows only go halfway down.1 comment

I love my X-trail, I have the Ti model with the huge sunroof and leather seats. Rides fantastically well and easy to park and drive on any road surface. The centre dials were strange to get used to at first but makes seeing over the bonnet much easier for short people like me. Very comfortable for passengers as well. Loved the boot door how it opened up in one part and is so easy to close one handed, a must with 3 kids. The stacker CD player, cold drink holders are all luxuries.
Great to drive, great looking, fantiastic boot space and love the boot door.

Great family car
I really like our 'Exy'. Comfortable, roomy, high driving position make for great driving. Had issues with transmission seals at 12 months and 48 months which were dealt with under New Car & Genuine Extended Warranty without any problems. First time it actually required a new auto transmission cause they couldn't stop the oil leaking for some reason with simply replacing the seals. Second fix it was just the seals that needed replacing. Tyres that came with car new wore out quite quickly and when replaced with Pirelli Scorpions have no issues. ...Read more
