A technician from another company (Metropolitan) came out to look at our split system air conditioner. He brought in no tools, didn't test anything, and told us we needed a new air conditioner. He quoted us $5000 for the unit plus installation (the unit he recommended is $1200 at Harvey Norman). He didn't mention that it would leave a huge hole in the wall which we would need to get another tradie in to repair. We paid over $140 for this visit.
Then someone from Nortan came to give us a free quote on installation of a new air conditioner. He tested our old unit, found the problem and fixed it on the spot for under $300. We just needed a new capacitor.

Just had our bi-annual service on an elderley ducted heating system and it was so easy.
