I don't know much about Penrite oil, but I so happy of using Nylon 5w-30 in my car.
The oil is like new after 8k, I haven using Nulon since the day one in any of my car's, past and present, specially on Calais, Commodore, Barina, Toyota, Nissan. That's I don't have any mechanical problems.

Kathy, the Penrite Enviro 5W-30 is the same as the Nulon Full Synthetic 5W-30, its recommended for all European turbo diesels mainly, I've used both Nulon and Penrite with my 2012 1.6 Citroen C4 turbo diesel since the vehicle was new (and after the first free service, as I do my own servicing) and they are both excellent synthetic oils. Btw, the 5W=30 is the recommended synthetic oil for my vehicle and both of these oils are premium grade Aussie synthetic oils and do a perfect job.

Toyota recommend 10w30 for camry 11-17 models. Is it good to use 5w30 for Camry 2015 that has 100K+ kms on clock?

2 answers
Steve
Steve

If Toyota recommends 10W-30 synthetic then it must be right, if it recommends mineral oil or semi synthetic then that is what you should use, as the Toyota Camry is not a turbo powered diesel or petrol engine so always stick with what the manufacturer recommends as that is the best engine oil or lubricant for your vehicle e.g. with my Citroen C4 eHDi B7 2012 which is a turbo diesel, Citroen recommends to only use 5W-30 synthetic oil and NOT the 0W-40 or 5W-40 synthetic,

This is what viscosity really means e.g. in a 10w-40 for example the 10w bit (W = winter, not weight or watt or anything else for that matter) simply means that the oil must have a certain maximum viscosity/flow at low temperature. The lower the "W" number the better the oil's cold temperature/cold start performance. The 40 in a 10w-40 simply means that the oil must fall within certain viscosity limits at 100°C. This is a fixed limit and all oils that end in 40 must achieve these limits. Once again the lower the number, the thinner the oil: a 30 oil is thinner than a 40 oil at 100°C etc. Your handbook will specify whether a 30, 40 or 50 etc is required. That is about it, hope this helps, cheers.

With a DPF and turbo diesel you should only use the 5W-30 synthetic and change your oil at a 10,000kms interval.

I have accidentally been using Nulon petrol full synthetic in my Diesel Ford Transit. The containers look similar Should I drain immediately and replace with the diesel oil or wait until my next scheduled oil change?

2 answers
Steve
Steve

NO, the petrol and diesel are pretty much the same viscosity and using either will not damage your engine. The petrol is at a viscosity of 5W-40 and the diesel is at viscosity of 5W-30 which are both made for extreme turbocharged engines. What I would recommend is that you use your current oil for the duration of e.g. 10k until your next oil change and after that make sure that you only use the diesel synthetic and the recommended viscosity of e.g. 5W-30 or whatever it is for the Transit Van 2.0L EcoBlue diesel engine, which is not a high performance diesel turbocharged engine so the petrol synthetic is more than adequate for lubricating the EcoBlue diesel engine without causing any harm.

The Nulon website clearly states about Nulon Full Synthetic 5W-30 Long Life Engine Oil. "NOTE: Not recommended for diesel engines or vehicles fitted with DPF." You must use Nulon Full Synthetic 5W-30 Formula Long Life Diesel Engine Oil.

This NULON 5W-30 & 40 synthetic oil suits all turbo vehicles of either petrol (5W-40) or diesel (5W-30) engined vehicles, on my turbo diesel vehicle its recommended to change the oil filter and oil at an interval of 10,000 kms with a 5W-30, check your vehicles viscosity listing and kilometrage change of oil and filter as it could be different! All in all the Nulon, Penrite and Gulf Western are all great Aussie synthetic oils and I've used them extensively for over 10 years without any wear and/or trouble on my diesel engines,

can I blend nulon 5w 40 with 10w 40?

Never a good idea to mix oil viscosities. When draining the oil you will never get all of the oil out. If you are not getting bluish smoke when you receive a little hard, 5w-40!would be better for fuel economy, to though most manuals will suggest 5w30 oil for better fuel economy (check your owner handbook for suitable oils).

Steve
Steve

“W” stands for “winter.” When oil grades are hyphenated (i.e. 10W-30), this indicates range of viscosity attainable with this particular oil, namely it behaves like 10 weight oil (less viscous) when it is cold or “winter” and thanks to viscosity modifiers (manufacturer added oil additives), it will behave like 30 weight oil (more viscous) when hot. So DONT MIX them as the oil will function differently with the 10W and the 5W and could be damaging to your engine, stick to one viscosity and the viscosity that is recommended for your vehicle, this is very important as manufacturers do allot of extreme testing with which viscosity is best for your engine e.g. in my case, I own a Citroen C4 e-HDi turbo diesel and Citroen recommends using only 5W-30 synthetic oil and not 5W-40 due to long term built up of contaminants (even though minute but its critical) for the longevity of your engine and damage to the diesel engine.

For how many km we can use it for a new Car?

1 answer
Steve
Steve

Its recommended and essential that you change your oil (especially on a "Turbo" and "High performance" vehicles) petrol or diesel) at max 10,000kms and that includes the oil filter! You should also use, every 2nd oil/filter change the Nulon "Engine Oil Flush" so that you don't put clean oil into a dirty engine as it also cleans your engine of potentially damaging contaminants.. Using synthetic oil is the best (for high performance, turbo, supercharged and LPG engines) and the only recommended practice from all major manufacturers, as you should never ever use mineral based oils as they will damage your engine on these types of engines! Hope this helps, as I've been doing this for a very long time and its worked for me!

I ran 5w30 synthetic in a vehicle that covered 280,000km...no oil loss was evident. If the vehicle has been treated well over it's life, compression should be ok, but not all engines are to he same.

Use a heavier oil, like 10w40 if you notice oil consumption.

For the EJ20 motor I would recommend Nulon Fully Synthetic 0/40 High performance engine oil. Adding Nulon E20 additive will make it even smoother and quieter. I have had only good experiences using Nulon products over about 30 years now.

Sorry, I'm unqualified to answer. Been using it only a short time and unaware of any problems, but that would be the same comment for any oil, maybe even peanut oil! I was pretty sure that another brand was oiling my plugs years ago, and certainly Nulon doesn't do that, but neither do other brands. Anecdotal evidence, if it's true, like truth tester, may carry some weight. The specs on an oil should be sufficient, but I'm cautious. That's about the best non-answer I can give.

The King

Sorry Truth Tester but 0w/40 is like water and for a subaru engine with 235,000km I definitely wouldn't run that in a customer's car. I'd be running a 10w/40

Your mechanic is on the money, a 15W40 oil will be much better, 5W30 oil from Nulon is more recommended for high rev 4 cylinder engines, you need the added protection when hauling a caravan as the engine oil thins out from the added stress in the engine, Nulon does a oil in that grade, hope this helps, good to see people changing there oil at the half way point, not going all the way to 10,000 to 15,000 kms, you should be commended.

Mate, do yourself a favour and ring Nulons product engineering and support team. It should be a consumer contact number on the bottle or a reputable parts store like repco will have a way of finding it. Ie thru the rep. When i worked for a parts store i used to talk to their engineering team regularly about specalist applications. They are genuine, honest and will point you in the right direction without sacrificing your motor! :)

Not a bad idea, however not essential. I'd do it more so to give the engine a clean instead of changing to a different oil brand. You will find going forward from this that a Good synthetic oil such as Nulon, you won't really need to use an oil flush in the future, as the cleaning agent in synthetic oils will do that for you anyway.

since the jags got a bit of age, i reckon 10-40 is the way to go. dont stress about it too much, frequently changing the oil is far more important than the quality of oil, a mineral oil would be fine since we dont get subject to sub zero temperatures (thats when having synthetic matters). nulon 10-40 is perfect for it, synthetic or mineral is fine. just do oil changes twice as frequently than you would with synthetic.

Joseph42

You can either use 15W40 or 10W30. If you can get your hands a workshop manual for your car it give you proper info on what oliviscosity your car can use.

In my Hiace (2006) manual it says that I can use 10W30, 15W40 and so on. My van has done just over 193000 and when I serviced it, I used a fully synthetic oil. Been driving it everyday to work and been checking the oil level every other day after the service (19th of April @191715) for the 2 weeks and gradually went to every 4 to 5 days.

I can't see any issues or hear any odd noise in the engine whenever I drive it. It's really up to you what brand/type oil you want to use. I only started using synthetic because for once I want look after my van and buy some good oil.

Bare in mind that nothing wrong using the traditional mineral based oil for any car. The only advantage of using synthetic is longer service intervals in my opinion.

To answer your question, I would recommend the Nulon 5W30 fully synthetic. It's a little dearer than your normal oil but for me It's worth the money. There are even dearer ones than the Nulon. It's I'm impressed with Nulon so far.

Nigel

Thanks Lewy and Joseph I change my oil and filter every 7500 kms and will stick to the 10w 40 for the Jag probably use the Semi synthetic Nulon and probably the 15w 40 mineral for the Territory.
