Good option!
I have been using this unit for more than a month on daily basis and I am satisfied with the performance, but not with the power bill. Quieter than other options, but overall I believe it is a good value for money if you look for a portable, reliable cooler.

Perfect solution
My parents have recently sold and currently renting until they find their next dream home. The master bedroom doesn't have an air conditioner so I started researching this portable air con and weighing up the pros and cons decided upon the Olimpia Splendid Piu. They are completely happy with it and highly recommend it!

Not that good
I bought one of these last year and I am quite split on using it in the future. It does its job okay but I do have a problem with its loud noise. I also have experienced some problems with the air flow. The noise has made it quite bad for using it in my bedroom when I sleep.

SOLUTIONS TO PROBLEMS - sit unit on a mobile trolley / drainage / make a window kit for balcony door
This is my 5th year with Piu 16 (new from Good Guys 2014), and wow, has it saved my work-from-home office situation of 25 to 40 degree days in Sydney. No mechanical problems so far. Love it! Means I can enjoy my home office and not leave to go somewhere with air con.
PROBLEMS/SOLUTIONS SUMMARY (details below):
1. Buy a strong trolley with good large castors to wheel around the 30 kilogram Piu16
2. The trolley elevates the unit 5cm - 10cm, making for ease of drainage
3. I'm going to buy a 1.5mtr hose pipe, try see if can lead to outside courtyard for continual water drainage

It Does the Job
Bought one of these 2nd hand off Gumtree. We have ducted air, but I could not justify using that to cool just our bedroom at night. Set it to 19 the other night when it got to 37 during the day and it cooled the room quite well all night. It is not silent by any means, but it becomes background noise and I'm a light sleeper. It's heavy and cumbersome to move around, but all in all worth it for a good night's sleep in hot weather. Our bedroom is 20m2 with 2.4m ceilings.

Ineffective
Very disappointed with this unit given the price and performance claims made by the manufacturer. With an ambient temperature of 37 degrees in the house, the unit struggled to make any significant impact in a closed 20 square meter room. The unit is relatively portable via the built in wheels but proximity to a window or external area to vent the hot exhaust limits the portability of any such unit. The instructions aren’t great but setup is relatively straight forward. Compared to other units, the PIU is relatively quiet but it would be too noisey to leave on whilst sleeping. Suggest that consumers look for alternatives unless you’re prepared to sit directly in front of the unit to obtain any real benefit.

just money waste
It is just good for nothing in hot weather.feels terrible in summer and not at all helping with this aircon. Feels Regretting.just waste of money. Need to sit infront of the aircon all the time for cool air and never cools the room in summer. It is noisy as well.

Good for < 30m2. A godsend in the Brisbane summer.
I have a 50m2 east facing apartment (bedroom 12m2, Living 30m2, bathroom 8m2) that is boiling in the hotter months. Last summer I struggled with a Kogan 2.9 Kw portable air con. You had to be right in front of it to get much benefit. The PIU16 4.9 kw Qlimpia Splendid works much better than that - it makes a big difference in the living area, via its three fan settings, but only just barely cools the bedroom if open as well (the bathroom is always shut as it has a dehumidifier going 24/7).
The thermostat is a bit lower than the actually temp,...Read more
26 on the air con is actually 27-28 in reality, but you can work out a reasonable set point. Other notes: - There's no filter on the bottom intake. The F1 message means the top fitler needs to be cleaned (vacuum, replace and press "on" for five secs) - You'll need duct/gaffer tape for both ends of the exhaust hose to make it stay in place - You can buy longer exhaust hoses from eBay (2.5m compared to the 1.5m that comes with it). The 13cm diameter ones are the same size as the one with the unit (12 cm).Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Powerful and not too noisy
This air conditioner is a work horse. I've left it on for hours at a time and never had a problem. A lot of portable air cons are really noisy....this is bearable. It won't cool a huge room but if you sit near it in a large room you feel good. In a smaller room it will cool the entire room but I would find it too noisy in an enclosed space.

It's easy to maintain btw

Does it’s job
Bought this for the upcoming Newcastle weather which I have heard could go to 40 degrees plus the humidity. Lot of advises (online, friends, sales people) to not to buy evaporative cooler (which are cheaper), hence bought portable air conditioner.
So far not terrible days but still used it couple of times.
PROS
- It is one of the best portable aircons and does it’s job perfectly well. So worth the money I spent.
- Easy to operate remote
CONS
- Manual is not helpful in how to install the exhaust to a window.

Perfect!
Couldn't be more happy with my purchase! The PIU 16 cools the room down on a 35 degree day within minutes. It's quieter then expected, can easily sleep with it on. Installed within seconds! Portable to move around if needed. Simple, effective and does what it says. I love it...

portable airconditioner
Bought this unit to go in my bedroom for the summer as I am a night worker so I need to be in bed by 4:30pm during the week. Was noisy but still able to go to sleep. Cooled down room well (3.4m x 3.0m). The unit wheels around well but if you have to lift it over anything it is heavy. Exhaust hosing does take up room and unit needs to be away from wall for hose to attach, but I am happy with the unit.

does cool down a room. but very noisy
bought this in harvey norman, recommend by a sales, got a discount price from him. It does the job in a 3 ×3 m room. kept the room quit cold in 40 degree days. however, it is very noisy, can not go to sleep with it is on. If you keep it outside your bed room, it would be better.

Love it
Bought one for my father last year and wish we had bought one sooner. He is 85 and this unit is great for cooling his lounge/dining and bedroom. Not very noisy at all and my husband installed it in 5 minutes. It is also a lot lighter than it looks so easy for him to move if he needs to clean around it.
