Depends on the company. I know some companies dont make you sit through the waiting periods again however they do ask for your current details and member number etc to double check.

Thanks for getting in touch Steve. Sorry for the late response, we only just came across this one. Most funds don’t pay towards tests in emergency as the hospital considers you as an outpatient until you’re actually admitted as a patient. However, the hospital should be upfront with you about this and the fees involved. I hope this helps, please let us know if you have any more questions. If you’d like more info on our available covers PM us your details and I can have one of our Customer Service Experts contact you, or give us a buzz on 1800 808 700. Take care - Brooke @ Peoplecare

Does peoplecare cover obesity surgery?

also can i go to an ER room in a private hospital and that would be covered ?

1 answer

Peoplecare H.Peoplecare Health Insurance

Thanks for getting in touch, Sammy! Obesity surgery is covered under our Premium Hospital cover. Keep in mind there’s a 12 month waiting period if you haven’t previously been covered for this service.

In an ER you’re treated as an Outpatient (with all services covered by Medicare) so hospital cover doesn’t apply. It’s only when admitted into the hospital as a patient your hospital cover comes into the picture.

We’d be happy to chat to you further about this. Please give us a buzz on 1800 808 700 or private message us your details and a time and date that would suit you best and I can get one of our experts to give you a buzz. Take care – Brooke @ Peoplecare

Looking to move from HCF after 20 years. Currently have their corporate hospital cover and gold extras. Family of 7. Can you advise what the benefits are of moving to you?

Peoplecare H.Peoplecare Health Insurance

Hi explorer2203, we sure can look at a cover that suits your family!

There are many benefits if you join the Peoplecare family.
- Because we’re not for profit, we’re all about you. Our staff love answering the phone in person, and we love giving you simple answers to your questions.
- We have great benefits for dental, optical, physio, chiro and natural therapies.
- We have arrangements with over 30,000 doctors and 500 private hospitals around Australia.
- We also have Medical Gap cover with participating doctors.

In regards to your cover, we offer 3 levels of Hospital and 4 levels of Extras. To help us find the right cover for you, we will need know if you’re wanting to compare to your current cover with HCF? If not, just let us know what you want to be covered for and we’ll look at a cover that suits you.

Also with your family of 7, if anyone of your dependants are over the age of 21 and are studying fulltime they can remain on your cover for no extra premium. If they’re not studying and are still dependant on you, your cover would increase to Family Plus which is an additional 30% added to the family premium. The maximum age a dependant can remain on your cover is 25.

If you would like us to call and go through our covers, please give us a buzz on 1800 808 700 or private message us your details and a time and date that would suit you best and I’ll get one of our experts to give you a buzz.

I hope this helps! Take care – Rosita @ Peoplecare

Dont go to T.U.H after being with Medibank Private for 23 years we decided that their increases were just to much to handle, so we changed over to T.U.H, not a good move, after 2 years our Policy has just gone up 13.1%, so some times it pays to stay where your are, terrible disappointed with them, we are like many Australians out there we are struggling to pay for our Health.

I am considering changing our health insurance and I live in Adelaide. Do your health insurance cover working with many doctors or hospitals in Adelaide? Do you need to go to certain doctors or clinic to get a better benefit?
Do you have an office or branch in Adelaide?

1 answer
Peoplecare Health Insurance
Peoplecare H.Peoplecare Health Insurance

Hi Stella

Thanks for getting in touch.

Peoplecare has agreements with most private hospitals (98%) across Australia. These agreements make sure that a contracted schedule of fees (including in-patient accommodation, theatre and special unit accommodation) is charged by the hospital and paid by Peoplecare on our member’s behalf.

We don’t have preferred providers, so you are able to choose whatever doctor you like. We do however have a scheme called Access Gap with over 30,000 doctors. This program aims to reduce the gap between the Medicare fee and what doctors actually charge. Doctors can choose to take part in Access Gap on a case-by-case basis, and if they do take part you'll have either no gap or known gap (where you'll be told exactly what your out-of-pocket costs will be).

If you like, you can search for participating hospitals or doctors in Adelaide on our website here: https://www.peoplecare.com.au/find-a-provider

As a not for profit we are always looking at ways to keep our costs in check so we only have one head office in Wollongong (just south of Sydney) but there are plenty of easy ways to deal with us:
• Give us a buzz - our staff love answering the phone in person and helping our members
• Online - you can access your membership anytime you need to with our 24-hour Online Member Services
• Mobile Claiming – download our app and your claims can be on their way to us in record time
• EFTPOS Style Claiming – just swipe your membership card at participating providers and we’ll pay your benefits straight to the provider. You’ll only pay any difference between what they charge an your benefit and you won’t have to submit a claim form.

If you would like any more information, please let us know.

Peoplecare H.Peoplecare Health Insurance

Hi Kei, thanks for getting in touch! There are different ways you can pay other than direct debit, these include BPAY from a bank account or paying with a credit card over the phone or through our website. You can also pay by debit card, but it depends on how your bank has it set up as to whether you can do one-off payments. It won’t cost you any extra to use any of these options, and payments can be made weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

I hope that helps. If you’d like, I can have one of our Peoplecarers contact you to go through your options in more detail - just let me know or give us a buzz on 1800 808 700.

My wife is considering gastric band surgery. If we transfer to your fund, what is the wait time to receive benefits for this surgery? Peter.

1 answer

Peoplecare H.Peoplecare Health Insurance

Hi Peter

Thanks for getting in touch! The waiting periods for gastric banding would be 12 months and you would need to be on our Mid or Premium hospital cover. Although, if you’re transferring from another fund and were already covered for gastric banding (having served their waiting periods), it would be immediate under the Mid or Premium hospital covers with us.

There are a lot of other things that come into play here, so we’d love to give you a buzz to ensure you have all the right info. If you’d like to, private message us your number and I can get one of our experts to give you a buzz!

Waiting period for obstetrics

1 answer
DD06
DD06

12 months for obstetrics unless you already served waiting periods for obstetrics with a different health fund. This will cover both public and private hospital. Just to let you know in case you weren't aware, but all private health insurance only cover IN hospital cost of obstetrics. They don't cover the cost of regular consultations and ultrasound etc when you go to obstetricians. I was not aware of this until recently as well. So make sure you are aware of the costs involved when deciding your options. because even though your private hospital is covered by private health care, if you decide to go to private hospital, you might still be thousands of dollars out of pockets since private obstetricians charge quite a lot and costs of regular check ups add up quite significantly (and no health fund will cover this cost since this is out of hospital treatments and medicare is capped at $450 I believe).

justin muponda

justin mupondaasked

when can I/we start using the health cover the after joining?

2 answers
DD06
DD06

Depends. Are you currently on another private health insurance before joining peoplecare? Basically if you held another private insurance and wanted to change to peoplecare, then any waiting period you already served with another fund will be covered by peoplecare (unless you upgrade your insurance which means if you had basic hospital cover with another fund and then you join full hospital cover with peoplecare, then the basic will be covered straight away if you already served the waiting period and then the rest of the non basic you need to wait).

If you have no private insurance and you would like to join peoplecare, then you must serve waiting periods before you can claim any benefits. waiting periods for each claims are different. Most extras cover are around 2 months wait (if you never had any private insurance). Hospital is around 12 months for most claims. Ambulace is straight away covered no matter if you have any health insurance before or not. But give them a ring. They always answer within a few rings. You don't need to wait very long to hear any answers.

Peoplecare Health Insurance
Peoplecare H.Peoplecare Health Insurance

Heya Justin Muponda. Just wanted to confirim that DD06 is absolutely right! If you transfer from another health fund, you only have waiting periods for things you weren't covered for before. If you're new to private health insurance, you'll have waiting periods (which all health funds have). You can find more info about waiting periods here: www.peoplecare.com.au/waitingperiods
Hope this helps! Take care, Anita @ Peoplecare
