Besides the usual calc-clean functionality, the PowerLife Steam has a built-in calc-clean slider which allows for easy removal of any built-up scale from your iron. We hope this answers your question. Hello, I have a GC2990 model, a couple of questions:
1) it is near impossible to see the water level due to the dark casing. Am I blind? Is a light I can’t see?
2) why does it stick to everything? No matter or fabric.
3) why do the steam holes not go all the way to the tip of the sole plate?
I bought this because I wanted to be able to adjust the temperature setting myself so disappointed about these other things.

PowerLife Steam GC2960

Hi,
We have been very happy with our Philips GC2960 iron until today.
Suddenly, the iron does not heat at all and the Auto Lite flicker only occasionally when placed on the soleplate for > 30 seconds. It does nothing in the upright position.
Assuming the problem it is smoothing to do with the orientation timer is there any way to check this and or fix it.

Sorry. I could never completely get rid of it. I used a baking soda paste which helped a little but on the down side blocked some holes for a while. It's just not a good product. I persevered with it and ended up with burns on clothes. I gave up and bought a different brand.

Actually rethinking. You should return it to seller or call the company for a refund as you have only had it such a short time.

Hi Sally, thank you for your question. The safety auto off function works after 30 seconds when the iron is placed on the soleplate and after 8 minutes of no use when it is placed on the back. Does your iron immediately turn off or after a while? This way we will know whether it’s a product error or not. Another question I have for you is whether you’ve had the iron for a while and already descaled it? Hope to hear from you soon.

Kind regards,

The Philips Australia Team.

I'm also having the problem of scorching on the sole plate. The setting wasn't too high as I was ironing 100% cotton bags and I had the heat set to just below the Cotton/Linen setting. I don't want to use abrasives and destroy the sole plate but nothing is removing the scorches. Can you tell me how to remove the marks please?

When the iron is left on inadvertently- does the auto/off function mean just that the temperature is reduced or that it actually ceases heating, ie would it be safe all day?

How do you clean it because i lost the booklet on how to clean it?

1 answer
Philips
PhilipsPhilips

Hi Youngghandssome,

Most of our user manuals are now stored online so, if you have access to a computer, then please go the the website www.philips.com.au. Then navigate to the "Support" page, type in your product number (if you have a Powerlife iron then this will probably start with GC2xxx) and you should see the "User Manual" available to download. You can then print this off if you wish.

However, to give you the instructions specifically for cleaning out the calc...
Fill the water tank and heat the iron to ‘MAX’ temperature. Then, unplug the iron and hold the iron over your sink. Push and hold the slide button to calc-clean while you shake the iron to flush out the water. It is recommended to do this every two weeks.

I hope this helps.

Kind Regards,
The Philips Australia Team
