Very impressed with RACV with both claims
I am surprised at the amount of negative reviews so even though our experiences are old, I felt that I should add them. Our first claim was well over ten years ago but RACV were extremely quick to get the leak fixed and carpet replaced. About 10 years ago we had our second and hopefully last claim when a truck hit our garage and did a lot of damage. RACV were fantastic, we were very impressed at how quickly they responded to assess the damage and immediately organised the trades to fix everything to a very high standard. RACV has always been an excellent insurance company to us in the past.

Such a waste insurance company to deal with...
I had my ceiling collapsed and refuse to cover that saying it is not listed under the events. Shame on you RACV!!
I will never ever go with RACV and never recommend the same.

Racv insurance, stay away
Long term customer of RACV home insurance and had nothing but trouble dealing with them following a minor claim for the house damaged by fire
Despite emails (not answered) calls and promises of action the house still required repairs which are simple
Hopeless on every level.

Performed well beyond our expectations!!!
Had some flooding due to the brief storms in December. Called them up the same night and started the claim process for the contents that were damaged on the bottom floor. Already within a couple of hours I got a call asking whether the carpet needed to be taken out overnight or could wait for the next day.
Within about a day or so, we listed all contents that we thought were damaged. An assessor came to inspect two days after lodging and explained that some additional items were damaged, even those we were not aware of as water damage can tak...Read more
e time. Over the weekend the washing machine started shorting the house and an agent on the phone advised us to source an electrician to write up a report that it is damaged from the water and they’ll send us to the nearest retailer to pick a new machine. They would also pay the electricians bill. After the initial assesment, RACV decided to send out their own assessor (previous one was from Restorx) who added some more items to the list. Overall, we got a pretty fast payout for items that were damaged or are likely to show significant water damage within a month and electrical items were replaced with pretty new and high range replacements. Customer service always gave you the feeling you were speaking to a person and not a machine or script reader. Overall experience was great and will keep our insurance with them.

Refuse to cover my elderly parents for storm damage
My parents have had house and contents insurance with RACV for 47 years. The spouting on the house could not cope with the recent Melbourne rain and came into the roof and damaged one wall. Assessor said it was due to a rusted vent in heater. We had it checked by a roof plumber who said this is not the problem it was a one off caused by the heavy rain. RACV don't want to know about it. My elderly parents are terribly distressed about being so loyal for so long and RACV don't care about their customers. Do assesses get a commission for knocking back claims. Will there ever be an enquirer into insurance companies, they are worse than the banks.

They have taken my car and lied to me. I have no car for Christmas thanks racv
I paid for a policy for two years and then my car was vandalled and destroyed while I slept. Racv guarantee me verbally that as soon as they would get my car they would send my payout. I waited almost a month for my car to be towed and then when I handed my keys over they didn't do anything, telling me there was concerns in the investigation and if I cancel my claim my car is going to be written off. What am I supposed to do, they have my car still want me to pay and won't pay me out for a new one. Getting to work has been hell and so has Christmas period without a vehicle. Thanks racv, thanks for upholding your words..

They'll take your money but wait till you need to claim!
Took money from my parents for years with home and contents insurance cover. Then the one time an abnormal storm hits and literally blows a hole in their roof, rain coming through into a bedroom, a hole looking out to the sky... they say the roof is too old to be covered and refuse to fix it, simply covered it with a tarpaulin. But they happily took the premiums for however long until something actually went wrong. Was a terrible experience sadly. We fought and fought until my parents just said they can't be bothered fighting any more.

No multi policy discount technicality
After 35 plus years of home contents in wife's name and building insurance in husbands name same property, realized not getting multi policy discount. So response was we should have checked. That's 10% over however many years such discounts are in place. I believe our policy pre dates such discounts but also no problem when wife increases insurance in husband's name. But money coming in of course.

Not a trustworthy Insurance Company
After multiple decades with a competitive insurance company, we foolishly moved all our insurances to RACV. Two years on and a genuine claim for water logged carpet was rejected due to incompetent reporting by their chosen investigators (Becon Building Servcies) - 6 individual visits, 6 weeks later, one assessment report advising wear and tear. Unfortunately, we are left with a room that has carpet missing (removed by RACV appointed personnel) with no care or responsibility taken for incompetence shown by the investigators. (surprised that RA...Read more
CV persist with the use of assessors that have poor track record of reviews in the community) Needless to say, we are on the move back to our original insurance co and will need to replace the carpet at our cost. Unfortunately after 30 years as an RACV member, we cannot recommend their insurance arm due to perceived under-handedness. Shame RACV, stay with your car breakdown assistance where your true skills reside. I would love the opportunity to get this in front of the ombudsman - it would show up the incompetence of the whole experience, however the RACV complaints handling policy requires several levels of internal reviews first (initial objection, managers review, customer services review,....). Not sure if this layered handling procedure will stand up in a court of law - perhaps I should make it a test case, if I can see enough negative experiences. GavSimilar opinion? These Really Aren't Discounts!!
Recently received renewal notice to Home and Contents Insurance. Total cost was a bit over $3,500. The notice indicates that this is AFTER discounts have been applied for No Claim Bonus (25%), Multi-Policy Discount and Gold Years of Membership Benefit (15%).
Adding back these discounts gives a premium of nearly $4,950.
I got another quote from AAMI - same amount insured, same excess, same property. The quoted premium was less than $2,500 - straight "off the rack".
I queried with RACV and was told they couldn't do any better. That's OK. W...Read more

A 30+ year customer finally has to move insurers...
After making a minor address correction to fix an error introduced by RACV, there was an 87% premium change (all within the same rural postcode, and a distance of a kilometer). There was no satisfactory credible explanation, so I have now moved four policies to another insurer, who already had our four cars. The premium dropped a little, and it's a better policy!

Easy to deal with
I made a claim online. I had someone from RACV contact me the next business day, claim was approved. Very easy process. The RACV send out good contractors. I was very happy and the turn around was super quick. I had carpet damage and replaced with floorboards instead. I will continue to use RACV as making a claim was very simple and the customer service is always polite, helpful and easy to understand. The terms and conditions of the policy are very clear also.

Insurance a virtual con
we have a Contents policy wth RACV and reasonably assumed food stored in our Fridge freezer was covered for accidental spoilage.
NOT a Chance RACV made us jump through their 14 layer call system to finally reach an operator who advised no your not covered. We only cover a motor if its fused and then only if you have accident s added to the policy?? WT..? when I closely checked our policy it indicates on one hand certain things are covered then a few sentences later that its not covered. The terms they used are designed to be ambiguous and va...Read more

Absolutely stay away, expensive and they promise to send paperwork and never do, every claim is reje
Won't fix water damage done through a property as they insist it's pre existing, anything done 5 minutes is pre existing therefore you would need to claim before the event actually happened. Rubbish company, rude arrogant staff, very unpleasant experience, never needed to claim before and after all my years as a loyal member to be treated this way is disappointing!

Stay Away from RACV Insurance
On Friday 30th June, I found one of my room's carpet really wet and it appeared there was some kind of leak somewhere. When inspected further it appeared the water leak was coming from the bathroom shower next to that room. I straight away contacted RACV to lodge a claim. The customer service lady from the RACV team
advised that they don't cover Plumbing cost but anything resulting due to that water leak would be covered so I needed to get the plumber myself and bear the cost and all other damages resulting due to that leak would be covered. I...Read more

Never Any Issues
Have car, home and contents insurance with RACV and never had any issues. Last year had to put two separate claims in, one for some rotted walls due to a leaking pipe and another for a cracked toilet. The assessor was prompt, professional and friendly. The tradesmen were friendly and the builder made sure I was happy with the work and corrected any I was not happy with. We pay extra to have no excess so work that would have ran into the tens of thousands cost us nothing.

Thank God for RACV insurance.
Recently my investment property was flooded, whilst on the outside the damage seemed minor, in fact the damage was huge. The claim was excepted so quickly, a reputable builder chosen. For the $600 or so premium plus $800 or so excess I got the biggest value, my claim was huge. One note of caution though, had I not ticked the box that the place was tenanted I would not have received loss of rent.

Dated 14th Aug 2017 - Those who are still deciding to go RACV---- DONT.
Almost One month after I hear from RACV since I put the above dispute. Their so called independent CUSTOMER RELATIONS SPECIALIST wrote me back after she claims she investigated everything and was satisfied with the original reason. What frustrates me more that they are ready to change the carpet, go out of their way to pay the plumber costs plus $1000 to get rid of my claim but they won't approve the claim relating to my bathroom tile that was broken by the plumber as he had to go in through that space to get to the leak. I think it would cost RACV too much money so they are offering all these to avoid paying for the actual thing. My argument with them remains exactly as it was on the first day. As their operator advised on the first day I found the leak "Anything resulting due to that water leak will be covered except plumber cost" Now they are changing their own rules and paying for the plumber and offering $1000 on top but won't fix the main problem i.e. bathroom. On top of that Customer Relations Specialist, threatened me that if I keep going with this case I'll be liable for the legal cost that will come out of my own pocket. Like the current situation is not stressful enough so they have decided to add the legal cost on me as well if I don't back off. WHAT WOULD YOU DO??????????Please read this as well. I'll keep updating so anyone who wants to go with RACV can make the right decision.
