RACV - A TERRIBLE INSURER TO DEAL WITH
I have had all my insurance policies including home & contents and motor vehicle insured with RACV for years but had not lodge a claim under my home policy for years. Recently, due to some gusty winds and downpour experienced in Melbourne, some roof tiles were dislodged and water had seeped in through the gaps in the roof tiles and had damaged the timber frames and damaged the plaster ceiling. Also, significant damage to the eaves were apparent.
I lodged a claim to get this fixed. RACV sent their assessor who climbed up on the roof and in th...Read more

RACV Tradies Caused Damage To My Home
Very unhappy with RACV.
RACV had sent out a couple of tradies that went up onto my second story roof to investigate a leak to my skylight and in the meantime someone (one of their tradies) had damaged our solar (salt pool) rubber tubing.
I had noticed a large amount of salt appear at the guttering where the damage was caused. I had contacted RACV to advise of what I had suspected - being one of the tradies must have damaged the solar pool's tubing (because no one else has ever been up there since the place was built in 1999) hence, i...Read more
t leaking and now salt accumulating and damaging our guttering in this area. They sent out another tradie that walked around the house (did not go up onto the 2nd story roof) looking at the 2nd story guttering who said "there is no damage to the solar tubing but because you live near the beach, that is the cause". - So much for his "expertise" (RACV's expert) and his "lack of knowledge" (none). The salt just got worse and eventually again I called RACV and demanded that they send out someone who deals with solar pool tubing. A gentleman (a different tradie that specialises in solar pool tubing (mind you, I had to ask RACV to send someone who deals with solar pool tubing because they kept sending out their roof plumbers who could not find the issue) turned up and of course he confirmed that there was a small prick to the solar tubing. I said to him 'if it is wear and tear, there would be signs of it in various areas. Is there wear and tear in any other area of the solar pool tubing? He said 'No, it is in good condition and it is only small but enough to cause the salt build up to your spouting'. Obviously (because we NEVER had this issue prior to them going up onto our roof), one RACV's tradies had pricked our solar pool tubing, did not say a word about the damage he had caused. To add to insult, RACV call me yesterday to say 'we have made our decision and we have decided that the the damage to your solar pool tubing and the salted spouting is due to "wear and tear" '. Thank you racv for sending these tradies out to my home who dramaged our solar pool tubing which in turn damaged our spouting. RACV, you are totally liable for this damage as we estimate it will cost over $1,500 to fix.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Very satisfied.
While on a short holiday in February a water hose burst & flooded our home, damaging carpets, skirting boards, furniture & personal items...As we are 77 & 81 year Olds, this was a devastating. ..RACV had contractors arrive within hours, who worked till 3am removing carpet & furniture. etc ..
Follow up service was most satisfactory...
It's now 4mths later & all building repairs complete, walls painted, new carpet laid, drapes drycleaned & damaged furniture replaced.
During this time RACV have been most understanding & helpful. ..and I can happily recommend RACV INSURANCE

6 months and still unsatisfactory
Insured with RACV for many many years, 7 policies covering vehicles and houses.
The policy was not good value. Policy was easy to set up because they were taking my money. I did not get good customer support until I was at breaking point.
I needed to make a claim which was handled by more than a dozen people from Melbourne and other towns rather than local tradespeople. Until I made a formal complaint progress was slow. When my next step was consumer affairs things did happen but it all took 6 months and the finished job is not to my satisfaction. Under no circumstances would I recommend RACV insurance.

Not insured while on holiday
Did you know that racv will not cover you if you go on an extended holiday. Even after over ten years of insurance for a car and house and not a claim that I can think of RACV refused to cover our home contents for our first long holiday as it happens to be 10 days longer than they will cover (60 days) without us arranging and proving that we someone visit our property every week while away. Even the fact that it is a unit is part of a complex the that does all maintenance and we arrange with Aus Post to hold mail they insist that the property...Read more
has to be visited inside each week. Even arranging a occasional visit by a relative or neighbour is not good enough. It has to be each week. So plan your holidays carefully to be a maximum of 60 days or you have no insurance at all.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Absolute Disgrace
The policy was terrible, applied for a home and contents policy and when needed for an emergency claim I get told that I have to pay extra or else they won't cover me. With my first payment a package was supposed to be sent out, as I clearly got told it would be sent in 3 business days. Never received that too.

More exclusions than inclusions.....
Discovered water had been leaking in the ensuit causing tiles to fall off. Decided to make a claim with the Insurer I have been loyal too for nearly 15yrs only to be told the claim will not be covered. Apparently the house was not constructed with a water membrane in the ensuite in 1992 and It is up to me to keep upkeep on water proofing the shower area.
Nice work RACV...always got an out!!

Discusting service!
Been with RACV for 20 years, with multiple policies. Have to make 1 claim & they decide not to cover me. Nobody gets back to you. People say the company are going to do something and happens. Insurance. It's a scam!

Another RACV rip-off
After a plasterboard ceiling in our garage collapsed was told by RACV that it would not be covered as it was 'accumulated moisture damage' and not the result of a single event. This house in only 14 yrs old. After having insurance with this company for 20+ years (house/contents and vehicles) and never making a claim in that time I feel extremely disappointed with both the decision and the service I received. My advice to anyone looking for insurance is to give RACV a big miss and look elsewhere.

RACV Staff Are Liars
RACV STAFF are liars, told me they would proceed with claim, in fact they didn't. Not very good at all, they make up their own amount what they decide to give people. These staff are nothing but liars RACV.

Racv policy rejection FB group
Dear RACV,
My name is Gina Bracken and I am writing to you to voice my disgust about my insurance claim that RACV has rejected.
As RACV is aware my house roof was severely damaged during a “STORM EVENT” that hit Geelong and Melbourne areas on Sunday 9th October 2016. You will also find that my roof was not the only one damaged in the Geelong area.
RACV’s representative informed me via telephone on Friday 28th October 2016 that my home and contents would not be covered as disclosed in RACV’s policy Pdf.
I will outline some things that occurr...Read more

We Are Being Fleeced, Year After Year After Year....
We have been paying insurance for so many years and have in fact a 25% of which we will loose 15% if we make a claim. Fortunately after many years of paying our insurance and not making claims we decided that we are going to ask the insurance company to look at the ceiling in our children's room which had a leak that we had fixed after the storms we had. Although we didn't claim for fixing the roof, we did ask if we could claim for the ceiling to be fixed. Well, it was disappointing to be told that it was not the storm responsible for the leaks but maintenance on a 10 year old home.
Really!!!! What is the point of actually paying the insurance, when you are turned down on the first legitimate claim you make??

Massive Rip Off
Home and contents combined premium came in.
Glad I compared, RACV charging me double what others are offering!
Sadly it doesn't pay to be a loyal customer. (16 years with no claims)
25% no claim discount, multi policy discount, 10% member discount - All smoke and mirrors.

Price gouging
We have never made a claim in 15 years. This year our premium went up by over 100%.I rang them and they said we have become a high risk area . They say we are a high risk fire area, we have had one fire since we have lived here and there was no property damage.Very disappointed there is no loyalty any more.

Premiums keep going up for no reason
I have been insured with RACV for both house and contents, and car insurance, for over 20 years. In that time I have made a single claim (14 years ago) on the house and contents insurance and I think also a single claim on the car insurance. Last year my house and contents premium went up by about $150 for no explicable reason. I phoned and they lopped about $100 off the cost. This year I have my renewal and it is again $160 higher, reduced after a long phone call to an increase of merely $60. Fed up with inexplicable huge price hikes (we're talking 20% per year). I've been a very loyal customer but I'm finally taking my business elsewhere.

Made my burst into mother tears
After paying for home insurance for over 25 years we finally had a water leak in the bathroom, before ringing up we tried our best to solve the problem. The leak was causing the heating vents to fill up with water so we finally rang to make our first claim. After speaking to over 5 unhelpful and rude customer service staff we gave up for the day. The next day was worse and they told us they would only cover the costs of damages caused meaning we were supposed to let the water leak until it eventually destroyed our bathroom and then make a claim? Don't waste your money donate it to charity or give it to any other insurance company!
