From what I can tell some insurance companies (Real is one of them) do not cover them...BUT..they don't tell you this. When you take out the policy they ask you about the house and one of the questions they ask is what roof you have. And if you tell them that it's a tiled roof they put that on file but they do not tell you. Then when you have a problem, if your roof leaks, they know that they can refuse to pay. If you learn from my mistake, ask them if they cover an old tile roof, if they say yes, ask them to put it in writing before you take the policy. Never trust an insurance company, always remember that they are not there to help you, they are there to make money from you. They will always try to get out of paying you when you put a claim in, only the large companies can be trusted and even they still try to con you.

Sonya, I've just read your story, sounds similar to my own. I'm so sorry that Real seems to have also left you in your hour of need. I hope the reply they posted to you telling you that they have passed your case on to Claims Manager is not just their usual rubbish to shut you up, I would have thought that it was already in the hands of a claims manager. From my experience sadly it will most likely not change much. I would have thought that if your home was damaged by storm and you needed help they would have been doing all they could to help you but their Assessors are not trained to help, they are trained to find any reason they can to deny your claim. And if they have no choice other than to pay out the claim, they will then do all they can to cut as much out of it as possible. But these cheap Companies have a bad reputation for a reason, they simply don't seem to care once they have your policy in place and the premiums are being paid. They want your money, but will use disgusting tactics to ensure that when something goes wrong they can abandon you. I hope things work out for you Sonya, if possible could you keep us up to date with how things go? Besides, if Real know that your story is being watched they might try a little harder to do what they promised they would do when they were taking your premiums.

Once again Real had the hide to send me papers to renew insurance for home and contents..Still doing letter to Ombudsmen. Had I mentioned Real had also lost my paperwork at some stage!!

I wouldn't use them, go for a more reliable Company. You will find they are ok until you have to make a claim. Sonja

Irfan I think you would have cause to complain. I would suggest you get a qualified contractor to inspect the problem and give you a written opinion that it is due to faulty workmanship and then re submit a claim to Real with the letter attached.

Unfortunately I dont have one to insure. Try CommInsure...heard they are good.
