OK
This car is one of many i looked at. The exterior is nice and the drive is good but the one thing that let it down for me was the interior which felt old in styling. I thought the interior quality of plastics and dash let down the car overall

Nice car, Subaru needs to address the Stalling / Diesel Particulate Filter issues !
Comfortable economical small wagon, AWD is great to drive and holds the road and its line in corners extremely well. We love driving it. 6l / 100 since new, done 16,000km to date - mostly counry Km's.
I wouldn't tell a mate to buy one without telling them in detail about the DPF problems others are having and its inexpicable stalling on us that can leave you exposed to other moving traffic. . .very unhappy with this characteristic of the car. IT IS NOT DRIVER ERROR. Sort that out Subaru Aus. and I'd give the car a 4.5 to 5 rating.
Subaru says nothing wrong.
We have both been diesel drivers for close on 30 years and our other vehicle is also a diesel.
1st gear is a little on the high side.

Now has 53,000km on the clock, the stalling hasn't happened in the last 25,000km or so. Great little wagon.
Ours doesn't stall but it's been back to Subaru more times than I care to remember for the DPF, it's also had the suspension replaced, has an oil leak and twice had a hose for the intercooler replaced. Regret purchasing this car now.

could have been great
I wanted something that would tow, and ideally a wagon. I ended up looking at the mini "suvs". The forester was the best of a bad lot. The rav and tiguan rode hard, the rav had awful seats, xtrails blow transfer cases, tiguan hopeless use of space, mitsubishi - well nothing good about it. Ended up with the X manual.
Trouble is 22 months in the car annoys me so much I'm thinking of trading it.
It pitches, the gearbox drives me nuts, the paint is criminal. Look at some in a carpark, they all have scratches. The center console lid catch has...Read more
failed and a squeak has started in the driver's A pillar. Towing is disappointing. Gutless off the mark, once it hits 1800 revs it goes. Just lots of annoying things. I get 8.4 l/100kms in mixed driving, my girlfriend gets up to 12.5. She uses lower gears and revvs it harder. fuel consumption, handling, ground clearance lousy paint, unbearable gearbox, annoying electronic throttle5 comments
Suggest you look at a Kia Sportage or Sorento Diesel as your next car.
I am also not impressed. That throttle is a major problem. So much thatthis will be my last Subaru.
Sorry but it's horses for courses, sounds like you just didnt buy the right vehicle to start with. These are not a performance vehicle and it amazes me how many moan about the engine, its perfectly fi... Read more

I suffered a vibration in the gearbox of my automatic Forester XT, the car spent 10 weeks at dealerships being looked at before being told that it was within acceptable limits. This was the second reliability problem I have had with Foresters in as many years, and lost alot of money trading it in. On the other hand, many people enjoy great reliability. Could have been great.
Very comfortable to drive. Handled well, very practical, and looks fantastic. Subaru all wheel drive is second to none.
The windows are frameless, and nearly every one of t...Read more

I use my Forester on the beach most days when tide is right (mid to low). Surprisingly good with the manual / low range a must. Used to have a Pajero 2001 which was better on sand with more power & diff lock however too thirsty and now costly to replace with a new for what I need ... the Forester does the job on the beach fine... lighter so does not sink in sand as quick & I tend to get by without deflating tyres so often. OK I do not tow others out of sand in the Forester however did cost me a Pajero clutch so possibly a good thing! Son also h...Read more
as previous 2006 Forester very happy while my 2010 is a step up. My 2010 has sound ground clearance & space. Quality, value for money & all rounder. Agree with most others Pros. Minor only .....Last model had better storage & cup holders.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Terrible
It is higher off the ground than standard cars so there is the benefits of easy to get in and out of the vehicle. It has good size windows so the ability to see all around from a safety aspect is important. Aswell it being a AWD, good on gravel roads. And unlike a 4WD doesn't cost a lot to run!It is the perfect size and car.
The perfect size car, with good view from all windows(safety).2.5L easy on petrol. Airbags. And the best thing about it is not to high or low, perfect to access for elderly or someone with back trouble getting in and out etc.
Wxpensive to service.

I live on acreage and do a lot of kms everyday. This car is engaging to drive and very versatile. As an everyday driver it is perfect for me and I can leave the 4WD for the weekends. I do need a bit more room, which the new Forester has, but I don't like the bland SUV look it now has. With the new Liberty/Outback looking like Daewoo's poor cousin; Subaru needs to lift its game with external design.
Beautiful engine that sings out to just over 6000rpm.Full time AWD is more than handy living on acreage. The sunroof is huge. With the windows down a...Read more

Very capable AWD system. Please search the subaru AWD system on Youtube and see the direct comparison to other soft roader AWD systems. Had this car since new and although highly modified never had any issues with the car. The car is basically a impreza STi in sheeps clothing. It is very easy to make this car go very quick with very little mods. If purchasing second hand please check all mechanicals as some might have been driven hard.
Towed a boat (5.6m Quintrex Freedom Cruiser with it) with it no problem. Had the car since new, no problems with it at all. Great versatility. Slept in the car several times no problem!
Sits too high for my like (very personal taste)But apart from that the perfect car.

I would buy it again any day of the week. I have been looking to upgrade but after driving 2010 models of other makes, i think ill just stick with the forester. nothing else compares, responsiveness, looks, capabilities forester all the way!
2007 xs auto.. I love this car! As a sales rep, I do about 1000 km a week, the forester has kept up with every step. I have 2 german shepherds that fit in the back beautifully. It is safe safe safe, i have never ever felt out of control like in some other cars. Fits everything in, safe, good on fuel, loo...Read more

An all round great vehicle, the most practical and easy to live with vehicle I have ever owned. Not the fanciest, not the fastest or the cheapest but by far the best. No other vehicle comes close for a modern day family car, in this age of choice and high petrol prices.
Amazing economy, for a large 4 cylinder. All-Wheel-Drive gives stability and confidence in any conditions, on or off road. Once you've driven with AWD you'll never want a front or rear wheel drive car again. Plenty of cargo space, good vision from high driving position and windo...Read more

Next car will be a Forester without even thinking. Every person I have asked about their Forester have only given rave reviews.
Excellent car without a doubt. It is actually my second Forester and when it came to choosing the second one I was finding it hard to have anything compare. Took it off road on the weekend and i took it through some places I would think twice about with no hassels.
Fuel tank is still a bit small, boot is limited to three maybe four person (pushing it) camping trips and the engine makes a funny noise when throttling.

Hey.
Im looking into buying a 2010 Subaru Forester MY10 2.0D 6 Speed Manual Wagon. It has 285,000 kms on the clock though. Turbo diesel model. Has anyone had any issues with this model? Or has one with similar kms'? Has a lot of km's and thats my only con to the car really! Just trying to see if its worth it or not.

That’s a lot of kms and turbos can be expensive to repair and replace. Unless u get the car for next to nothing I wouldnt buy it, it’s a big risk
Also I would suggest that such high KMS would mean the engine would be very old and tired and towards the end of its life, car had probably been thrashed.Definitely worth paying a bit more and get one with lower KMS AND NON TURBO! I wouldn’t pay more than $1000 for it
If highway kms and well serviced, (and the DPF could be a pain on these ( Diesel particulate filter))and if a low price could be plenty of life left. Diesel buyers are typically not hoons, tend to look after their cars, generally. I have seen cars with 200,000 kms that were in incredible condition. Get a independent mechanical inspection, peruse Forester owner forums, then decide.

Hi
I am considering buying a 2012 XT. Does anyone have this model and has 3 child booster seats in the back row? I currently have a 2013 Kia Rondo, but feel let down by many things. It claims you can fit 3 across no worries, which I guess is true. However with booster seats, there is very little room to plug in the seatbelts. I have to do it (and it hurts my hand every time) for my girls as they can't do it on their own. My eldest kept accidentally unbuckling the middle booster seat because she cannot see the buckles when she reaches in.
Can anyone help?
1 answer
Hi,
I don't know as i've never tried it but I do know there is quite a lot of leg room and space in the rear seating area which is why we bought this model as we had teenage boys. The only way to be sure is to measure the amount of space three booster seats take up and take a tape measure with you when you look at one to compare if it is big enough. Good luck.
