Rubbish product... Non existent servicing.
Motor burned out on third use after being stored away for a year, and we found that servicing options in Geelong are non existent. Have to travel to Melbourne (100km) for service. Won't be buying Sunbeam again!
Purchased in March 2021.

Sunbeam Has Gone to Hell
We bought this machine in 2015 on the back of sunbeams past reputation we’ve used it maybe 20 times and started noticing strange noises initially. Mixtures sticking to the side of the bowl and finally today smoke pouring from the unit. It has now been relocated to land fill unfortunately. We will never buy another Sunbeam product, this company has gone to hell! Do not even consider purchasing a Sunbeam product as from what I have recently discovered through reading other peoples experiences this company produces faulty products and they don’t care.
Purchased in April 2021 at Harvey Norman for $180.00.

Very pleased with this mixer
I recently purchased this model second hand. It is at least ten years old, and the previous owner hadn't used it a great deal but was very happy with the service it gave. It is a twin motor model and I have already used it several times with great success. I was initially a little nervous about purchasing an older model, but I am so pleased that I got it. I'm sure there are more recent mixer models that have fancier features but I am happy with this one. It does everything that I need and does it well. I did read a lot of review before committ...Read more
ing to buy it and was aware that quite a few users weren't very happy with it. However, I'm also aware that most people who are happy with what they have, don't do reviews! They just get on with life and enjoy their product. I do try and remember to do a review whenever I buy anything and even though this is not a new purchase, I thought my experience might be useful for anyone else thinking of investing in an older mixer.

Broken and can't be repaired
My Parents had their Sunbeam Mix Master for almost 40 years. So we asked for one on our bridal registry. Reading the other reviews, I feel lucky to have gotten 9 years out of the machine though the problem started several years earlier. Sketchy rotation of the bowl and exceptionally loud. As with everyone else, the Drive Worm Wheel wore out and Sunbeam conveniently does not produce this part as a spare. Contacted Sunbeam and got a polite, "too bad, so sad" response. But hey, maybe their goal is to not ever have repeat customers. I certainly won't be buying anything Sunbeam ever again.

Sunbeam Mixmaster failing
I bought a Sunbeam Cafe Series Mixmaster MX8900 six years ago, my daughter also.We choose Sunbeam because of our confidence in your products. My family have always bought Sunbeam mixmasters. Most are still working after 20 to 30 years. After five years the turntable ceased on my daughters mixmaster and mine has now. Very Disappointing for a company that was once an Icon in most Australian kitchens. I certainly will not be buying Sunbeam again.

Extremely dissatisfied.First use. It Won't even cream butter and sugar. Slow and a grating sound,
Maybe 5 years ago- my MX8900 was part of a prize .It was not needed until my old Kenwood died about 3 months ago. After first use I put the Sunbeam back in its box in disgust (. I have 3 very old Sunbeam mixers which might be collectibles. THEY still work but are quite antiquated.).

DISAPPOINTED SUNBEAM
This machine has been a real disappointment. Initially it worked well, but spare parts, namely the Drive Worm Wheel required replacement but this part (MX88138) and the beaters need replacing are NO LONGER AVAILABLE. I've searched everywhere so has my Sunbeam authorised repairer. This model MixMaster obviously had a weakness in its design or manufacture to start with. It was also expensive in comparison to other similar mixers, to buy at the time. My previous MixMaster lasted 39 years! It appears I purchased it in preference to other brands as ...Read more
I hoped it would last a long time. Disappointed with MX8900W Sunbeam Mixmaster.
I have had a problem with the bowl rotating gears disintegrating also. I only had mine about 2 years when it started to make a grating noise. I contacted Sunbeam and of course I was told that it was out of warranty so I would have to pay to have it repaired. I continued to use it as I didn't think I should have to pay to have it fixed when it was only a couple of years old. The noise became so bad and metal shavings were being left on my bench top so I had to stop using it. I have a old style Sunbeam Mixmaster that I have had for 30 years and ...Read more
it is still going, though a button has gone off the bottom of the beater. Rather than spend the money on getting new beaters I though I would upgrade to a better model, so I bought the MX8900W. I thought I was upgrading but have been severely disappointed. It actually even beats slower than my old one. Considering it has a bigger motor, I would have thought it would beat faster. I have gone back to using my 30 year old mix master, even though the beater has lost the button it still does a better job than the MX8900W. I will have to purchase a new one soon but I won't be buying another Sunbeam.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Poor support from Sunbeam - discontinued cannot get parts
Have used this successfully over 5 years but it started to make noises and authorised repairer said (earlier this year) could not get needed parts for it any more. Poor service not to support a 5 year old mixer Compare this with Kenwood Chefwhich worked for more than 20 years.

Rotating bowl issue
Less than 5 years old and probably used average once per month, maybe less! Rotating bowl gears disintegrated. No spare parts available. Seems little point in buying the more expensive, supposedly more robust models when they last no longer, and cannot be repaired. Very disappointed in a brand that no longer synonymous with quality.

OK machine overshadowed by terrible customer service
Was gifted this for our wedding. Awesome machine for the first few uses. Then the rattling/wobbling started and attachments feel loose or not connected fully. Contacted sunbeam but unfortunately without the receipt there is no warranty service. This is a real shame as we are a big sunbeam kitchen (toaster, sandwich press, kettle, coffee machine, coffee grinder and mixer stick). Although the quality of this product doesn't necessarily reflect the overall quality of their products, they are in serious risk of loosing a loyal customer due to poor customer service. Work on your customer service, sunbeam.

Sunbeam Mixmaster Fail
The small plastic cogs inside failed on the machine after some strong dough was put through, I tried to replace these parts and no where stocks them, called Sunbeam to get them and they wouldn't provide them either. There goes $300 bucks for less than 4 years! What a disposable society this kind of company are creating! Never again!

Poor quality.
Purchased this machine for my partner and it has had occasional use over the last 5 years (a few more cakes would have been nice, which also would have manifested this design fault a lot earlier!). The Mixmaster was chosen for the fact her Grandmother, Mother, Mother in law, Aunts etc etc had all used and still use their older Mixmaster's to this day.
As I couldn't find the receipt, hence no warranty and after looking at reviews/complaints on the net, I decided to pull the Mixmaster apart myself. Turned out to be the unavailable part MX88138 D...Read more

Nice example of Planned Obsolescence
As per other reviewers, bought Mix Master after seeing mum use hers for years on end thinking it would last decades. So wrong! Bowl turning gear stripped after occasional use over last 5 years.
No longer can you get replacement parts for this poorly designed mixer it seems Sunbeam would like to insure all of these lemons are sent to the tip.

So disappointed with this Sunbeam appliance
This machine has been a real disappointment. Initially it worked well, but spare parts, namely the Drive Worm Wheel and Transmit Shaft very quickly required replacement but these parts (MX88138) are NO LONGER AVAILABLE. I've searched everywhere so has my Sunbeam authorised repairer. The numbers on the dial also disappeared very quickly. This model MixMaster obviously had a weakness in its design or manufacture to start with. It was also expensive in comparison to other similar mixers, to buy at the time. My previous MixMaster lasted 38 years! It appears Sunbeam no longer uses quality parts. I won't buy any Sunbeam appliances in future.

Poor quality product fraught with faults
We were given this as a wedding present- though it would last for 30 years or more as my mum's old one is still going from the 80s...alas! I was so wrong. First the numbers and writing on the turning part rubbed off after first use. Replaced this (not an easy process) and the same thing happened again straight away. Next the motor kept overheating and cutting out causing an awful electrical smell. Last straw was today when it blew up after 30 seconds of whipping cream, smoke pouring everywhere. I am so disappointed and will NEVER be being Sunbeam products again.

Poor Quality Product!!
I received this product for a Wedding present. I loved the look of it and initially was very happy. I used it occasionally over a 2 year period and one day i noticed it was struggling to turn the mixing bowl- making grinding crunching sounds. Luckily it was under warranty so it was replaced however this wasn't an easy process.
I had the next one for under two years and have probably used it less than the first unfortunately the same thing has happened again. The motor!! Poor poor quality product. Two machines both times the motor has blown up, this was an expensive item hardly ever used. I will never buy Sunbeam again.

The Icing On The Cake!
Ive used many a MixMaster over the years (including KItchenAid) and this new Sunbeam MixMaster is AMAZING!
VERY user friendly and makes fabulous cakes and biscuits! I got mine in red and looks so sleek and sexy on the benchtop.
The Balanced head is so good. You can lift the head with a finger thats how easy it is.
I have kneaded doughs in this machine, and it hasn't bounced around or rocked back and fourth, adjusting its power to suit the load.
I have spoken to sunbeam, and they say that some new attachments for the POWER DRIVE are on there way. WIll have to be on the look out for these attachments when released :D

not as good as it looks
I miss my Kenwood which lasted 31 years. The sunbeam does not knead dough stops straight away. Very unhappy with it as I make pastry a lot and now have to hand knead.

Beater stuck
I have only used me MM on a few occasions. While making marshmellow today beaters suddenly stopped after 5 minutes of beating on full speed, noticed eggwhite/sugar mixture had threaded up the stem of the beaters. Now beaters will not spin and cannot get one of the beaters out. Very unhappy as hardly used this machine. Also when beating with a small amount of volume ie 2 egg whites mixture does not whip up to required volume have to use hand beater to get the mixture going and this is using small bowl! How can Sunbeam release such a faulty product onto the market totally trashing their brand??? Will be calling customer service on Monday not expecting much help.

Can the gears be replaced in the mix master

Customer C.Sunbeam
Hi Cathy N,
Unfortunately we don't service these machines. THe cost to replace the gears would be too high.
Sallyasked
how to put beaters on is there a trick?
2 answers
Put the right one (square shaped) in first, then the left one (curved one).
Customer C.Sunbeam
Hi Sally - Take the beater that has a pointier, curved bottom and has a red coloured band around the top of the beater.Insert this beater into the left hole on the underside of the mixer head, the hole is identified by a red dot beside it. Take the beater with the angular/flat bottom and insert into the remaining hole. Note: Be sure both beaters click firmly in place, you may need to twist the beater slightly to engage it in position prior to pushing it in place.
