Beaters crunch and turntable doesn't turn smoothly
I've bought my Sunbeam 850W in 2011 and haven't used it since. I run my own cake business from home and now use a simple handheld mixer. Have recently tried using said Sunbeam 850W again after long period buried away in cupboard and still no good. Turntable doesn't turn properly and beaters crunch against each other. I only use it when mix 1KG batch of batter, otherwise back in the cupboard it goes. Did contact Sunbeam but was told to get new paddles, took months to receive but same thing happened. Not very happy as I need a large mixer for my business. Will not buy Sunbeam again.

No Spare parts available
My MX8900W was my pride and joy. Taking after my Nanna and my mum who had their Sunbeam mixmasters for years on end Sunbeam was my only choice and despite the lure of upgrading with a kitchenaid or a thermomix, I maintained that my sunbeam was the best mixmaster for show baking. When the bowl rotating mechanism started playing up I rang to be informed that replacement parts are not made anymore. To say I am devastated is an understatement. How can Sunbeam maintain their pledge to prouduce products of the highest quality. Maybe 30 years ago they did but certainly not today. I feel sick throwing the mixmaster out, it is still in immaculate condition and it just seems like such a waste, not to mention the sentimental loss. Gutted.

Complete waste of Money!
Got this moor Mother's Day two years ago, have used it twice as was worried about the noise and smell it made. Life gets busy it gets put in the cupboard. First time I've dragged it out today and it's metal area around where you put the beaters have corroded!!!! Omg what a piece of rubbish! my husband bought it for me as I used to rave over my mums old one.

Badly designed
It was never very good at mixing but the base that screws onto the bowls gets water in it when washed which is impossible to get out. The screws then rust which makes the base drops off and then the bowl can't be secured to the mixer. I rang customer service and was told that it was my fault as I should have been air drying it (contrary to the instruction manual which says to wash with hot soapy water and then wipe dry). I was also told I could buy a new bowl for $52.00 I asked customer service if the bowl could be fixed and they said that it...Read more
couldn't. I showed it to my husband and it took him 3 minutes to fix by replacing the rusted screws with good quality stainless steel screws. The mixer had hardly been used. Sorry Sunbeam, poor design and even poorer customer service. You've dropped the ball on this one.

Stripped brass worm drive, no spare parts avail
Similar problem, no parts and having to turn the bowl by hand. Contacted customer service and they have offered 30% off RRP of a similar item. Will try and bodge a repair otherwise its theirnoffer of another product on the market. Still not very happy, these units are not cheap.

Disappointed Rubish
Purchased this machine and 18 months later the lower motor died. Under warrantee Sunbeam replaced it. The replacement might have been a 'return' from someone else as the numbers on the dial wore off, the beaters wouldn't pop out easily and the tilt stuck and required force to lift. Just over five years later the lower motor has died again. A review below mentioned the cogs, it sounds like these are what died. This machine was $480 when purchased, the replacement won't be a Sunbeam.

unsuccessful success
I had the model 8900 and never work really well, since the beginning. One day the motor died... thanks! they have 5 years warranty and i still able to claim for mine. Good news, they give me a new mixer, and better than mine!!!
Very happy with the Sunbean service!

Absolute waste of time & money.
I had to give it one star as it won't allow you to give any less, maybe it would be for looks as it's a nice looking unit...the positives end there though. Used maybe 5 times in the first 12 months & then the beaters wouldn't stay in. Called Sunbeam, no receipt-no fix, so see ya. Never again will Sunbeam get a cent out of us for a single product no matter how good the reviews are on it. Do yourself a favour & buy anything but Sunbeam.
Looks nice.
Beaters fall out, mix works it's way up the beaters into the mixing head & it doesn't scrap the bowl.

Blame it on the mixer!!
Good wife dusted off the MX8900 we had for just over 5 year to mix some cup cakes for youngest daughters 9th birthday. The turntable stopped spinning and made lots of noise. Upon inspect found lots of brass filings and a stripped gear. I didn't expect it to wear out this easy specially when it's only used half a dozen times per year. Having had great sunbeam products before this mixer has definitely put a question mark in my mind of the brand. Needless to say the birthday celebration wasn't the same without the cupcakes!!
Longevity below brands expectation

Garbage!
I purchased the MX8900R after having sold my 40 year old model, still working, in a garage sale. What an idiot! The new one from the get go, used to vibrate the control dial around which used to slow the motor. The only use it had was to make pavlovas and the occasional sponge cake, possibly one or two times a year. The last time I used it, the motor just burned itself out, within the warranty period. As it was purchased at Clive Peeters, who in turn closed down, I thought that I had nowhere to claim my warranty. I was made aware after conta...Read more
cting consumer affairs that there is an implied warranty. I approached Harvey Norman whom I learned honour Clive Peeters goods, but! because I waited before making contact with Harvey Norman I have no claim. Sunbeam basically told me to get stuffed! Upshot! Don't buy Chinese made Garbage from Sunbeam. It does not last and although their warranty is 5 years it does not matter if you use the item once, there is no warranty!!!!!! A great big waste of money for a piece of garbage. Go Kleenaid! Bad warranty serviceSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
How long is long enough
We bought this after my wife's Mum had her sunbeam for 20 years.... We purchased the 8900 and two weeks later returned it after the motor burnt out. The replacement one has lasted 6 years and tonight the motors are letting off an awful burnt smell, we've read these reviews and realise our chances of replacement parts and repairs looks bleak......but the issue for us is 6 years a decent enough run for a Model that had a 5 year warranty. The warranty should give some reassurance it will last for a few years beyond that period. Yep we're disappointed.
Doesn't last

Disappointed
We used an assortment of second-hand mixers for about 18 years before finally deciding to buy a new Mixmaster. After splashing out and getting as close as possible a match to Mum's old Sunbeam we bought the Sunbeam MX 8900w. It went for a couple of years. It then broke down and got shelved. I pulled it out and had a go at repairing it this morning. Brass gear at bottom stripped, both gears at top stripped. Having seen the internal damage to the machine and reading the reviews I think Sunbeam would have known this was a design fault within a ve...Read more
ry short time. The gears are badly designed. It is disappointing Sunbeam did not withdraw this product immediately. It is obviously not worth chasing parts that are going to do the same thing. It is into the bin. Does anybody have a machine they have used for say 5 years and is still going? It must be possible to make them as the old Mixmasters went for decades, with heavier use. Thanks Very poor quality gear mechanism, not economically repairable.1 comment
Had the exact same problem with ours, we got it second hand but as new. Within 6 months the gear was shorn, we replaced it and it has just happened again - very disappointing :(

Let down by Sunbeam
We had a Sunbeam Mixmaster for 48 years, it never missed a beat, but when it started to have an intermittent connection (frayed flex, now fixed and going strong), we decided it was time to update. New one was ok, used about once every 2 weeks, very noisy and ran hot. Last week it made a strange noise somewhere in the beater gearing. Took it to the service agent who told me that parts are no longer available, throw it in the bin!!!!
Unacceptable service from Sunbeam, we recommend that you DO NOT BUY this product. it is rubbish.
Motor driven bowls, easy to use.
Very bad service from manufacturer, obsolete after only 2 years is not good enough

I have to say that Sunbeam were very quick off the mark to help rectify our problems.
We now have our new Sunbeam up and working less than 3 weeks after the original one failed.
Thank you Sunbeam.
Pity they haven't shown as much courtesy to the other Sunbeam customers. I don't trust this brand any more.

Disappointing
I had been wanting a mixmaster for some time and after some research bought the sunbeam cafe series 850w. It looked great and I thought having two sized bowls was ingenious. Unfortunately it didn't take long to for the beaters to start crunching together and sounding terrible. It also gets hot quickly. I have now found that others have been having the same issues after I decided to finally order some new beaters and am disappointed I didn't look to do it earlier. I have had mine for about 3 years and after paying approx $400 am very disappointe...Read more
d I haven't used it very much (the noise and crunching was terrible). Additionally I did my find the beaters did not do a good job of incorporating the mixture in from the sides. I would not recommend this mixer to anyone.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
couldnt complain UNTIL.......
Loved this machine until 3years in the motor went on the gears. Expensive to fix and when I spoke to customer service explaining why I didnt havd receipt ( insurance replaced this after a fire at my parents) I was told bad luck basically! So much for the 5year motor warrenty.
Like most of you, will not be buying a sunbeam EVER again
easy to use
dial rubbed off early so never really knew what speed i was mixing on. Customer service is a joke

Sad and early death
This work well until just beyond warrantee. Early trouble with beaters not quite synchronized, so that they crunched. Had Strong Man bend one slightly and worked without the concerning crunching. But only for about a year when the less than adequate motor expired. Symptoms of imminent death were failure of beaters, whiskers or knead ears to move at all. "Gears stuffed" said repair person. Will not buy another sunbeam. Heading off to get the mixmaster of my dreams now. Hang the expense!
Good bowls and array of attachments
Burnt out motor despite kind treatment.

Gears failed
My experience is exactly the same as many others. We had ours almost 3 years to the day before it come to a grinding halt. Opened it up ad saw what looked like gold dust all around the base of the motor, the brass gear had worn down. Why would anyone use a brass gear? I'm guessing because it's cheap but obviously brass wont last very long. We bought this model because we thought Mixmasters had a good reputation and thought we were buying a quality product. Sadly mistaken.
When it worked we loved it.
Did not last long enough.

I have the exact same problem with my mixmaster - this is the second sunbeem I've gone through and I'm not happy about it at all. My turning table doesn't turn at all now, and it too left brass shavings underneath the machine.

Gears failed in Turntable
I have used my mix master for 3 years, it started making an awful noise in the bottom last year, so have used it sparingly. I needed to use it about a month ago, and the turntable made a grinding noise and stopped turning. When we pulled it apart the gears had ground, and there were metal shavings all over the bench. We were told by a Sunbeam agent that the part was no longer available to fix it.
The numbers on the dial showing the different levels and uses have also worn off. I am really disappointed with the mix master, my mother has a Sunbe...Read more

ike to have it repaired, if possible. I would have used it for just over 3 years as well. My Grandmother's Sunbeam Mixmaster from the early 80s is still going strong. She's had it for as long as I can remember. Perhaps they just "don't make them like they used to".Brendan K.Sunbeam

A load of rubbish!
My daughter bought 1 of these mixers and at first was impressed, she then also bought 1 as a present for my wife. Two birthday cakes and a few cup cakes later my daughters unit burnt out, the gears were always very noisy, our mixer had probably been used half a dozen times when my daughter borrowed it, it started to sound like a grinding machine then whilst half way through making a sponge cake the motor quit on ours, she let it cool a while and it restarted, managed to finish her cake with a few stops to cool it off. Not a product you could recommend to anyone unfortunately. Tried to run it today but needed to turn it off after a short while
Always very noisy, no life expectancy at all!

Made in china
My Sunbeam was about 10 months old when the bowl turninc stopped, so I pulled it apart, and some how fixed it, well it did this again and again, untill next the beaters were clanging together, so I purchased 2 new beaters on line they worked good for about 3 times and then went clang, Iam sick of pulling it apart, it will be the last Sunbeam product I will purchase, nothing is made here anymore, it all comes from China and the big companys are making a killing with a cheap produce from china and selling it to us at 400% more.

Can the gears be replaced in the mix master
1 answer
Customer C.Sunbeam
Hi Cathy N,
Unfortunately we don't service these machines. THe cost to replace the gears would be too high.
Sallyasked
how to put beaters on is there a trick?
2 answers
Put the right one (square shaped) in first, then the left one (curved one).
Customer C.Sunbeam
Hi Sally - Take the beater that has a pointier, curved bottom and has a red coloured band around the top of the beater.Insert this beater into the left hole on the underside of the mixer head, the hole is identified by a red dot beside it. Take the beater with the angular/flat bottom and insert into the remaining hole. Note: Be sure both beaters click firmly in place, you may need to twist the beater slightly to engage it in position prior to pushing it in place.

Don't bother replacing the gear - the same thing will happen, take it from someone who went to the trouble to repair.
