Hi, sorry for the late reply, I would say the seal in the group head needs replacing, that's the rubber seal behind the shower screen, easy to replace.
Hope this helps.

I would give it a good clean around the seal first, just in case there are grounds around it, but agree that if this does not fix it then the rubber seal is probably gone. Very easy to replace.

Hi. Had my EM7000 for a couple of months. Makes great coffee (once I refined the grind and tamping). However the 'puck' is sticking to the 'shower head' when I remove the basket. I am leaving about 5mm below the top of the basket after tamping. The basket handle moves well past the middle point of the machine, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi, I would recommend you fill to about 2mm from the top of the group handle after tamping, that should stop the coffee grounds from sticking to the shower head.

PHM

I remedy this problem by putting the used milk jug underneath and the puck comes away easily with the usual flush that the machine needs to clean out any stubborn grounds on the shower head.

Hi I have a Sunbeam EM 7000 . I have had it for three years now. In September last year it started having problems where it would suddenly not express the coffee when the group handle is fitted. The first time I thought maybe the filters might be blocked and I cleaned everything just to make sure. So I took it back thinking it was still under warranty. No with 12 month product warranty and 2 year Concierge warranty. No Concierge warranty started at time of purchase. So it was sent to a repairer. It did the problem but then not again so they said if it causes any more problems bring it back. So a few months later it happened again So after being told yes it is covered then no it is covered back to repairs again. Still no solution. So home again and immediately back again. Does anyone know what would be the problem as I just want to make coffee and this is VERY Frustrating.

I recently bought a EM7000 machine and a Sunbeam grinder as well. When making the first coffee the espresso gauge made it to a the orange zone, but every coffee we have made after that won’t even move the gauge. We have tried the finest settings on the grinder and still have no luck. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Varying humidity can effect the grind and also the tension. When this happens, I tamp the coffee very tightly and tighten the basket very tightly on to the machine. This usually fixes it, sometimes too much, so I back off the tightening until the needle comes back into the correct zone. It is often a case of trial and error.

I bought my EM7000 in September of this year, it has been amazing, we’ve been really happy with it.
We don’t use it a massive amount, 1-2 times during the week and maybe 2-3 times on the weekend, used it this morning as normal, no issues.
However....
3 hours later, the machine starts making noises like it’s running and water starts pouring out of it - the machine was turned off but the power point was on. It ran through the whole tank!
Any ideas I can try before insisting my 3.5 month old machine be replaced 2 days before Christmas !

Hi JB24. I recommend you contact Sunbeam direct for advice and ask them to organize for it to either be repaired or return it to place of purchase and return it. Still in the process of getting rid of my own “problem machine”. It is not user friendly, it is coffee grind specific, not hot enough...poor recommendation on this machine from place of purchase. Good luck!

I've had my machine for about 3/4 weeks and all working fine until the buttons don't work on command, in particular when stopping the flow of water. The water still comes out after 1/2 seconds. The pre infusion feature also isn't working properly. There is a slight sound that it wants to stop and start again but not the same as the beginning.
What could it be?

Call customer service- I had this issue too. If you look in neck of grinder you will see a bolt that you can unscrew with a spanner if you take this off you will find 2 small washers, if you add another one or two (get from sunbeam) this will solve the issue you are having. Will reset so grind will be more like no 15 so you have room to move coarser or finer when trying different beans

Lunny

Common problem easily solved. Undo the nut holkding the bottom burr...left hand thread so turn it vlockwise to undo it. Add a shim washer, available from sunbeam & reassemble. Adjust grind untill it will grasp 3 slivers of paper between top and bottom burrs. That will give you an idea of when the burrs are close to touching, which would blunt them.

How to use the cleaning disc?

2 answers
debdenplace

Hi Vince,
I don't recall seeing this in either of the two machines I have owned, I assume its for either cleaning the head, or the basket in the group head.
I flush the machine briefly using the manual button, after every coffee, this ensures the head doesn't get blocked with grains. I follow the same process when closing down the machine, but also wipe the underside of the head with a soft cloth to ensure all coffee grains are removed. I remove the basket from the handle and thoroughly clean both before drying and reassembling... till the next time.

Instructions are in the back of the manual under "Coffee Thermoblock Cleaning Cycle". I have used it a number of times and works great. It is used to clean the grouphead.

Just bought the EM7000. Went thro all the instructions to get it going. Using shop ground coffee, wasted the first coffee by tamping hard but the coffee came out over the head and put grounds in the cup. Second cup tamped not so hard. Ok but not very hot. The presure gauge doesn't move. Tried the milk wand but only seems to heat the milk haven't been able to get froth. Might be user error. Hot water seems to work ok.
Any help much appreciated. I have had a sunbeam EM 5900 for years and no problem.

The EM7000 heats the milk particularly quickly so work on frothing straight away. If the gauge isn't moving, the coffee is too coarse. To ensure the gauge isn't broken, watch it when you first turn the machine on. Both gauges should move right around and back again.

Wendy L

Thanks, tried the more open basket and it worked ok with the coffee I have. Will have another go on the milk frothing. I can't drink anymore coffee today I'm shaking! I'm sure now I have changed the basket I will work it out. Thanks for your help.

Mike

Hi Wendy,
I bought my machine thinking I would make beautiful coffee from day one but far from it.
It is a learned art. To froth the milk you need to hold the milk jug on an angle and only put the tip of the wand in. It should make a tish tish noise and not form too many bubbles. If large bubbles are forming then submerge the wand a little deeper. Also only fill jug to the start of the spout.
To make the shot, only fill the filter basket to about 4-5mm below top once it's tampered. Also the various brands of grind are so varied that I ended up getting a grinder to ensure consistency. It takes time to learn and experiment with tampering wether it's too hard or soft. But you'll figure it out eventually and will have awesome tasting coffee.
Good luck
Mike.

When it starts at 70 degrees from the thermo block it is much cooler at the end of the process. It would be good to have it at 70 degrees at the end of the process.

Hi. I have an EM7000 which is about three years old. I recently had to spend $240 getting the thermoblock replaced at the local Sunbeam service centre (Warwick, Qld) and after them having it for two months I got the machine back and it has not been the same since. I am getting a spitting noise out of the machine while it's extracting and it appears to drop sharply in pressure at the same time. The result is a brownish looking extraction with no crema and the coffee and group head is full of grinds. I replaced the blue group head seal, however it does not seem to make any difference. Do you recognise the symptoms?

Hey there, I'm not sure what you're referring to with the blue group head seal, but there's a plate that is held with a screw which the water passes through. It sits flush with the coffee ground. Unscrew and give that a thorough clean.

For a start what is the coffee you are using. Also do you have a BURR grinder. It must be a burr grinder or are you using already ground coffee? It may be a mechanical problem in the machine but could be operator error as I am not sure your experience with this type o0f machine. There are so many things to get right that effect if you get good crema. The beans I am using at the moment from the supermarket are not acting as you would expect is necessary to get good crema.

I am grinding the coffee very fine and hardly tamping it at all. If I tamp it normally no coffee comes out and pressure goes to high. If I make the grind courser and tamp normally I can not get any crema but it should give good crema. So there is a bit of experimenting on every batch of coffee.

Years ago we tried coffee from a supermarket and it came out all brown and no crema. We usually buy green beans and roast them ourselves so that they are freshly roasted and as with all beans they go off after a couple/few weeks with the crems getting less and less. I have been busy lately so bought a Harris coffee from the supermarket and is working all right. As with all new beans you get you have to experiment a bit to get the right grind and tamping. With this coffee I can only get a reasonable crema with a very fine grind

There is always a chance you are not grinding the coffee fine enough or not tamping it right for that particular grind. Make your grind very finer and see if that helps but keep an eye on the pressure gauge and make sure the pressure does not go too high. Then if still not building up enough pressure tamp it harder.

I usually say it took me ten years to get it all right and this is my second machine. My earlier one was a cheaper Sunbeam that lasted for ages.

I hope you are not buying already ground coffee as that is not really good at all.

Hope it you get it working good soon.

EDIT: I just read your comment again and noticed you have had the machine for three years. Sorry if you already know all the above that I mentioned.

Hi, thanks guys for your input. I have been using espresso machines for about eight years and until now have had no problem. I have just discovered that it may be a water flow issue with my machine. I recently purchased two replacement filters for my EM7000 off Ebay which are purported to be genuine Sunbeam filters for that machine, however I have found that when the filter is in place the flow of water is reduced substantially and the machine becomes louder and doesn't function properly. With the filter removed the water flow is good and the machine performs as normal. The filters appear to be identical to the original, right down to the print on the cartridges themselves, however it would seem that there is a problem with them or the inlet itself. Have you ever experienced something similar?

In the orange zone.
Otherwise, there's something wrong with your tampering. The EM7000 is fussy with grind size. You should try the finest setting on your grinder (or a 'number 1' if ground from the shop).
