Love love love
Absolutely love this car. Have had it for a couple of months and it is amazing. It is really spacious both in width and leg room. Bluetooth is so easy and I couldn't live without it. I have to two baby seats in the back and there is still plenty of room. They have thought of additional conveniences which are great - eg. boot drying rack. Great car.
Pretty much everything
Not really anything I can think of yet.

Best Car We have Ever owned-
We have a 2006 Rav 4 Cruiser L. Has run like a dream it has been a real work horse. Husband and I both had repping jobs with many long trips to various locations. Such a comfortable drive. Daughter and I took to IKEA and enough room for us to bring home a double bed....wonderful and flexible interior space. Space is never an issue. Sad to see the rear wheel in the new RAV 4 going into the Boot Space. I loved having it on the boot door and having all that extra space in the boot. Still, am buying another RAV4 definitely!!!
Love the height in drivers seat, the comfort, the seat warmers!!!
Heavy on brakes as it started to age

Very poor fuel consumption. Not what Toyota said!
My 2009 rav4 diesel only does 35/36 mpg, though when I brought it 1 year ago I was assured it would do around 46 mpg! My 2006 model did 42mpg and I'm still driving the same roads, at the same speeds! It seems to me they updated the engine unnecessarily
, and made joe public believe they were getting a better car. Not true!!
Will go anywhere in snow, comfortable, plenty of space.
Very low fuel consumption, needs sorting!

Quiet, fast and smooth SX6
I got my new SX6 in late 2012 to replace the CV6 which I'd had for almost 4 years. The SX6 seems a little bit quieter and it feels as if the transmission has been programmed to change up at slightly lower RPMs which means it also tends not to change down quite as readily going up a small hill. I have not done a fuel economy comparison yet as the engine is still a bit tight at less than 8,000km, but it seems about the same as the CV6. If you do want to push on there is that familiar huge surge of power which makes the car a delight to drive. If ...Read more
driven conservatively, however, it will give very good fuel economy. The engine is just ticking over at 1750 RPM in 5th and you are doing 100 kph!. This is the reason I bought the new car a little earlier than I originally planned, as soon as I heard that the V6 engine was being dropped from the 2013 model. I did not want to be deprived of enjoying effortless, safe driving. There are too many gutless AWD slugs on the road already! The stock radio is excellent, much improved over the old unit. Overall I could not be happier. In my opinion the best AWD on the market for $45,000 drive away. The engine and transmission work together in perfect balance. Plenty of interior room for a family and all their stuff. All the good safety features. The legendary Toyota "it just keeps on going" reliability from a quality Japanese assembled vehicle. A little screw in the weathershield fell out. Nothing else.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Reliable but Underpowered and Thirsty
Had the car since new and it has been very reliable. Had 1 battery replacement and 4 new tyres, plus regular 6 monthly services. It has developed a click sound when turning the steering wheel during slow turns, for example when parking, but this is apparently not dangerous according to Toyota. Placement of instruments is great; rear storage space is excellent and bigger than other similar priced SUVs; and 3 passengers have plenty of room. The extras on the Cruiser L include dual zone airconditioning which works very well, as do the heated front...Read more
seats (for winter of course) and the sunroof. It also has leather seats which look good and are easy to clean, but could be a bit more comfortable. In my opinion these vehicles should have a rear camera, or as a minimum, reversing sensors as standard equipment. Rear visibility is restricted, including partial blocking of the rear window area by the spare wheel, which is mounted on the rear door. Fuel consumption is not as advertised; it's between 12.5 and 13.5 litres/100 km in the metro area for my vehicle. This may well be due to an underpowered 4 cylinder engine, which is a bit sluggish to accelerate when overtaking, particularly on country roads), coupled to a 'dated' 4 speed automatic gearbox (most cars now have 5 or 6 speed gearbox). Poor fuel consumption is certainly not due to any brash driving style or incorrect tyre pressures. Despite persistent complaints to Toyota re fuel consumption, the company advise things such as ..the engine is still running in.. and..wait another 10,000km.. and could not fix this fault. Very Reliable; spacious ; great airconditioning. Poor fuel consumption, never resolved by Toyota; underpowered 4 cylinder / 4 speed gearbox combination.Similar opinion? Excellent car
I bought this car back in August 2012 after my other car was written off in an accident. I did a lot of research into what kind of car I may want this time around and started looking at small SUV's (I previously owned a small sedam). I used a hire car while insurance compensation was being finalised with my older car and I happened to get a Rav4 during this time. I completely fell in love.
I went out and bought myself a 2009 model Rav4 and have been thrilled with this decision ever since. This is absolutely the best car and I have no reg...Read more
rets whatsoever. No one better ram into the back of me in this car and write it off too or I'll be most upset haha! This car has everything and more. Despite being classed as a "small SUV", it is incredibly spacious. The back boot space is huge and you will have no problems fitting a pram, groceries and more back there. And because the spare tyre is mounted on the back, there is this wonderful storage space underneath the flooring where you can put whatever you like! I have a picnic blanket, oil and water, jumper leads and all kinds of stuff hidden away in there. There is also heaps of room between the back seats and the front seats. No squished up legs, and it means I get to continue rear-facing my 19 month old daughter without worrying about the seat fitting... there's more than enough room! (And for those who know what I am talking about, there are also isofix points in this car on both side passenger seats for anchoring child seats that use this system). Also, despite it's size, this car is no problem to park. It took me a little while to get used to doing it (especially reversing into a spot) compared the size of car I was driving before, but after a few weeks you give it no second thought. Up the front, you'll find all kinds of great stuff. Firstly, there's more hidden storage pockets making it so easy to organise and store your little bits and pieces. There's also cup holders, a sunglasses compartment in the roof, as well as bottle holders in the door. The seats are comfy and look nice. You're not too high up off the ground in this car so you don't feel like you're driving around in a truck. The dash panel also lights up, whether it's daytime or night time, making it always clear and easy to see your speed, fuel level etc.1 comment

Great work horse
I found this site because I'm now looking for a replacement for my 2006 RAV Cruiser L which died recently protecting my kids in a prang from which they walked away. I got 130,000 problem free kms out of the beast and enjoyed every one of them. Sure, it was under-powered at times, thirsty & heavy on brakes but it never skipped a beat. I was intending to hold onto it for another 5 yrs. The use of space was ideal for a family of four which needed to also transport and/or tow large loads from time to time. When I bought it, it was the only SUV...Read more
available in its price range in which my 6ft 5in son could sit in the back seat in comfort. I could take it off road, into snow and pretty well anywhere else with a feeling of complete security. In the crash that ended its life, it did everything that the specs said it would - the Safe-T-Cell was intact while the whole front of the car was nearly torn off. If only Toyota would make them more fuel efficient, they'd still be the ideal family SUV and in my view better value for money than the Kluger. Great build quality and good vision. Versatile & reliable. Reliability, use of space, rear door-mounted full spare tyre. A little thirsty, heavy in braking, seats a bit hard on long trips.1 comment

Efficient, Powerful
I liked this car, but the only bad thing I have to say is that the quality of the materials were not excellent. Front seat got unstuck from base, and petrol door is scraping itself when you open it. The engine is powerful and Toyota servicing is great for the first 3 years. After that it gets expensive. Toyota recommends using E10 but it is better to use Unleaded 95 to keep the engine clean. My engine sounds better when I do. Overall was not bad for price, but not sure if it will last about 8 years.
Cheap, Powerful, Fuel Efficient
Quality of built not the best.

Terrible Toyota Service
Have a RAV4 late 2006 RAV406A model, owned since new. Have had problems with manual gearbox since new (could not shift into gear and now jumping out of 5th Gear) and reported at each service.
Toyota did nothing to fix issue all the way through warranty period. Now vehicle is out of warranty, toyota have pulled gearbox out and said that it needs to be replaced or overhauled at a cost of $6500 plus.
The vehicle has only done 65,000kms and toyota don't want to fix even though has been an issue since new.
Toyota charge extra money as they say this is for extra service and better vehicle quality. Have not seen either with Toyota.
Have now logged issue with ACCC.

A pile of garbage
I have to admit I should have done my research alot of better prior to buying this worthless piece of garbage. Don't ever trust a car salesman. Once they got their money, never responded to my emails. Firstly the technology of the RAV4 has not advanced since 2007. The body shape is terrible, dashboard is ugly, blue tooth does not work, an ugly wheel sitting on rear door, does not even come with 17inch alloy wheels, reverse camera as standard (other SUV's do). Not good
Rented one of these for a week around Darwin / Kakadu.
Plenty of flaws, let me list them.
- Gutless, way too highly geared, 4th can't get you up many hills and it needs to shift down to 3rd. Car was hardly loaded with 2 people and 20kgs of luggage, felt very sluggish.
- Seats pretty uncomfortable for long drives, fortunately you need to stop often for petrol and can stretch your legs. Didn't sit on them but the rear ones look and felt horrible.
- The fuel usage, I pretty much did all freeway driving at 140kmp/h and i managed just under ...Read more

A nippy and reliable compact suv
Our Rav4 Cruiser has been with us since the beginning of 2007 and has been going pretty well so far. Initial impressions were rather positive, as it was refined, had great handling for an SUV and its spaciousness defied its compact size. We were intending to purchase a Kluger or Sante Fe but realised that the Rav4 was all we really needed. We enjoy its agile handling (it's commonly described by car reviewers as being one of the better handling vehicles in its class, although it's ride is relatively firm to compensate). It's easy to park and man...Read more
euver around town, but the optional rear parking sensors do come in handy in tight situations due to the big exterior spare and tiny rear window compromising rear vision (a major negative of the car, especially if you've got small kids or pets). The Cruiser spec is also adequately equipped, with upgraded audio, safety (extra airbags etc), upgraded exterior (foglights, roof rails, privacy tinting) and dual-zone automatic air con over the base CV model. This applies for the pre-upgrade Rav4's; the newer CV's may have better safety equipment I believe. However, there were some quality issues we encountered during our ownership of the vehicle. Within a few months of our purchase, the cables for the rear parking sensors were hanging dangerously low underneath the bumper (to be fair, this was probably an aftermarket botchy job the dealership undertook). We tried sticky-tape and everything to secure it but in the end got them properly re-attached by the dealer. Some sections of the interior plastics are highly prone to scratching, so be careful! Also, the rear storage sections for the carjack and first aid kit on the sides of the boot have very flimsy doors which never seem to shut properly after numerous trips back to the dealer. Ever since the 40 000km mark the engine refinement has somewhat deteriorated. While driving at a constant speed the car is as quiet as it was when we bought it, however when accelerating or idling, there is noticeably more vibration and harshness present in the cabin. Perhaps the engine just needs a touch up but so far servicing hasn't alleviated the refinement issue. All in all, there have been no serious issues with our Rav4 Cruiser and it's been a pleasure to own with its nippy handling, moderate fuel consumption and spaciousness. However, some minor quality issues have somewhat affected our perception of Toyota as a brand representing solidity and durability. -Great handling -very spacious -huge boot on top of a large, underfloor bin due to the spare wheel being on the outside -easy to maneuver around town while still being at home on the open road and on light-duty tracks -cheaper to maintain compared to rivals (in terms of servicing costs) -Seating!! front seats are very flat and lack any decent support whatsoever! and you can't raise the driver's seat without tilting it forward and making the cushion even flatter than it already is. the rear seats, although comfortable, are also too low -although the side-hinged tailgate is bearable if you have enough space, it's a pain around town and in carparks as it needs at least a few metres rear clearance to swing open -fuel consumption is not bad compared to other petrol rivals, but performance and economy would be so much better with a diesel -some parts of the dashboard are prone to scratching and feel a bit cheap -standard tyres (Bridgestone duelers) had gotten worn through far too quick; get a set of coopers instead! -rear visibility is a joke due to the tiny window and the arch of the tyre, but you get used to it and with rear sensors this becomes no issue1 comment

Rav4 is an overpriced pile of junk
This is the worst car I have owned in 40 years of driving. Bought it brand new in 2011. Problems since day 1, Dealership and Toyota Australia are no help whatsoever. Basically a good vehicle
Our second 2006 Rav 4 Cruiser in 4 cylinder automatic form. The overall body design is very good and the safety features are also very good, however the silver paint marks very easily. Tragically the 4 speed auto is hopeless in hilly terrain - especially when cruise control is activated. Ticks all the boxes
Just took possession of my third Rav4! Can't speak highly enough of them. The last two have been the 4cyl Cruiser model which we love. Much bigger car than they used to be. Heaps of storage - even the kids bikes fit in the back! 6 airbags, stability control, bluetooth and cruise control are what sold it to us, not to mention a comfortable ride. This is my 6th Toyota over the years and you cannot beat them on reliability. Good choice of colours too.
Everything!

If Toyota are so reliable according to your comment, then why have you alread purchased six Toyotas? Sheesh... you must be in your 90s then!
Are you serious? Just because he has had 6 Toyotas does not mean they're not reliable. Some people, like myself have the luxury of being able to upgrade every couple of years.

Excellent
Beautiful car. HEAPS of room, inc for baby car seats etc. Massive boot, can easily fit prams, groceries, school bags or any holiday gear into the back. There are extra storage compartments under the floor of the boot also.
The only annoying thing about this car is the safety feature of the alarm sounding if you or the front passenger hasn't got their seatbelt on - a pain if you are just driving up the driveway or reversing and it is beeping at you!
Everything!
No cons to this car. If anything it would be the colour I picked (storm grey), shows the dirt!! hubby did warn me but typically i didnt listen.
