Wonderful car for small and growing families
We bought this car second hand off my parents when they upgraded to a newer model, my Mum has loved it the whole time she owned it and the best thing for us was the car was single owner from new, only driven by an old lady! (sorry mum). It's an excellent car for us, we have two small kids and needed more room than the small sedans we were driving previously. Ours is an automatic, which my wife was worried about initially as she had only driven manuals, but we have both gotten used to it. The main issue for us with the automatic is that unles...Read more
s you put your foot to the floor you don't get much power or acceleration, you really have to give it some to get going quickly. My wife uses it mainly to ferry our kids around during the week, we think it's quite good on fuel efficiency and it has loads of space for weekends and holidays away. Plenty of room on the back seat for 2 car seats with enough room between them so the kids can't touch each other, a necessity for us. The roof rails are excellent, you can put roof racks straight on the car with no installation problems. Front seats are very comfortable for two adults, all the dials and switches are within easy reach for the driver, love the bluetooth enabled audio system for making hands-free phone calls and the cruise control which was new for us. Heaps of storage in the front area, between the front seats, under the dash, the glovebox, and plenty of space for bottles and other things in the doors. Nice ride height for seeing over smaller cars when driving but still low enough our kids can climb into it by themselves. Good interior size, plenty of leg room for front and back seat passengers, plenty of head height for front and back seat passengers. Love the fold flat rear seats, although we don't get a chance to use them yet with the car seats. Putting car seats in and taking them out is a bit of a mission, the anchor points are very low down on the backs of the seats and quite hard to reach, especially when removing them. You have to fold the seats down to access them so it's a bit of a Tetris game to get them in and out. All in all, a wonderful car, I would recommend this car to anyone who is looking at buying a small SUV type car.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
This car is excellent and drives well and fits well with my life situation
The driving is easy and quite. The vehicle drives well and looks new even with it being four years old. It has suited my lifestyle and current life stage with a new baby and then a growing family. The car has ample room for holidays and everyday needs. I have kept regularly serviced and have had no problems so far.

Love it
Looks sporty and aerodynamic more so than any other SUV. Handles very well, accelerates nicely and its reasonably fuel efficient with the four wheel drive switching to rear wheel drive when you reach 60 km/h. The vehicle is appointed beautifully - the interior is as stylish as the exterior. The mechanism for dropping the rear seats forward to create a large flat cargo space is a brilliant little feature. With the spare wheel on the back, the extra storage compartment is also handy. My only criticism is that the interior lights switch off automatically too early. I'm always looking for something in the back when the light goes off.

A great all around vehicle
I bought this vehicle new (demo) from the Toyota dealer. I don't like the new body styles and was glad to read that they finally sorted all the issues with the previous models since 2006 with this one. I have taken it off-road a couple of times and it performs pretty well. Good ground clearance and lots of low rev torque. We initially bought it for road trips because it is easy on the petrol handles pretty well. Plenty of grunt for the motorway carnage. I would definitely want this vehicle during a zombie apocalypse, but it just as easily...Read more
handles back and forth to work the market or the kids to school. I like the cargo net, loads of room to cart around whatever and reversing camera. The Bluetooth audio is the business for listening to my favourite internet radio stations!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Not bolted together as well as my old Camry
I don't usually write reviews so soon after buying something, but I'm a bit disappointed in the quality of the RAV. It's a good car for sure and I do like it, but there seem to be an awful lot of rattles for a car that's under 4 years old, especially one with a Toyota badge. The 16 year old Camry I left for this didn't have any interior rattles, and that car had done over 460,000 km! I notice rattles in the RAV coming from several doors and the glove box and unfortunately mine seems to be afflicted with the apparently common squeaky tailgate la...Read more
tch ( see forums on the RAV4 World website). That squeak could drive you to drink. Im on my second fix for that (I've only had the car for three weeks), so hopefully this time it stops for good, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm sure the main components of the car will keep going for a long time, as everything appears to be well maintained and functioning properly after 125,000 km, but clearly Toyota quality has slipped since the 90's. On another note, I have the 4 cylinder engine. I've read a lot of reviews that say it's under powered, but I disagree. Admittedly I haven't loaded the car up with a lot of stuff and people yet, so maybe it's weakness is yet to reveal itself to me, but driving on a mix of country and city driving, including steep highway inclines, the engine seems perfectly adequate to me. Willing, even. It's no rocket, for sure, and it's not as strong as my old Camry V6 engine, but it certainly does the job without having to scream. I would almost go so far as to say that it's a fun drive!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Perfect 4WD and time have proved how reliable it is
I brought my Rav 4 cruiser at Apr 2008. Now 7 years passed on,i have to say it's a perfect 4wd for city drive and for off road as well ( To be honest, i didn't try off road that much, but the time i had,i don't have any complaints )
During the 7 years ownership,it didn't cause me any troubles, after 3 year's capped services,i switched to a local mechanical shop, everything is normal so far. Only consumables need to be changed, such as battery, tyres, break disks etc.
After it passed 100k model now,i feel the monument and driving feeling even better...Read more

Great all-rounder, massive boot space
Very happy with our CV RAV4, needed something with decent boot space, it can fit surfboard, baby seat, bike, pram plus luggage. Lots of useful compartments, keep finding more! I didn't initially want a SUV, but couldn't find a hatchback with a big enough boot. Don't regret getting RAV4.
I don't find the side opening door a problem, top opening would be a problem with our current garage anyway. Much prefer the great under-boot space instead. The rear tyre cover is locked when the car is locked.
The fixed price servicing for first 3 years is g...Read more

2011 Rav4 CV Auto - All the space without feeling huge!
After finding out we were expecting baby no 2 later this year, we decided it was time to upgrade from my Kia Rio Hatchback (which I loved, I might add). I was a little worried as I have only ever had my Rio and was so used to a small car, so in my mind we were looking for a big hatchback (is there such a thing?!!) but hubby took it upon himself to find me an SUV I was comfortable in. I wasn't convinced we would find one, but after sitting in a number of them and test driving a few, the Rav4 was the car for me! While it took some getting used to...Read more
, it didn't feel as huge as some of the others, but it still has all the space, if not more! May 2015: 4 years on and still loving it! Just had my first flat tyre which looked like it had gone down rather than punctured. With a full size spare it was no drama though. Fixed price servicing has been good also. It has the biggest boot ever (in Japan the same model is actually a 7 seater!), with sizeable hidden storage compartments also. It is in the cheaper to mid price range (approx $38k) as far as SUVs go. It doesn't feel massive (a plus for me, perhaps a con for others?!). It looks classy and comes in a good range of colours. Bluetooth ipod connection with the touch of one button! Bluetooth phone connection. Radio/CD control on steering wheel. The back seat is adjustable, both back & forward and recline, which is good for adjusting baby seats - baby no 1's head no longer slumps when he sleeps. A big plus! While Toyota have fixed price servicing for the first few years, servicing is 6 monthly whereas I am used to annual. The car does seem to take longer to stop when I brake/park and sometimes even grinds or jerks a little, but maybe this is normal with a bigger car? Apparently Rav4 spare wheel covers are often stolen which bothers me. Parking can be tight in small car parks/spots, especially when parked next to another SUV! Not many complaints, really.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Lovely Car. Very Happy with my ZR6
Purchased a 2009 ZR6. Couldnt be more happy. I think the car looks quite good and feels great to drive. Very disappointed that Toyota are not making any more 6cyls though. Love the fact that my car is so zippy and easy to accelerate when needed. Love the leather seats, air con, plenty of storage space inside and the huge amount of space in the back. Great sunroof. Not sure what i will buy next as i refuse to buy a 4cyl awd.
Excellent feel inside. Love the V6 accelleration. Plenty of storage. Great to drive
I wish they had a better GPS system. Doesnt have a rear camera. Other than that love it!

Excellent
We brought our rav 4 This year (2010) and are very pleased with the car. We have 2 small children that still both need car seat. So no more straining our back any more when putting the children in there seats. The car is very smooth to drive. We brought the car because we found the boot space in our other sedan way to small for all our family needs. i would overly recommend a Rav 4 to anyone that is on the market for a 4WD. I've never been so pleased by a car before and all i can say is that the Rav 4 just has pleased me so much!

2007 RAV4 SX V6 Engine problems bad one's too. 120k in-out of repair shop & lots of $$$$$ for fixing, " for what I would assume is a design flaw". What happened to Toyota's reliability pledge? They used to make such great cars but not anymore. I will be looking into other brands

Never Buy a RAV4 again
I have a MYO8 Manual Rav4 cruiser done 130,000 and the gear box has gone. So disappointing. My good old an faithful 2000 Ford Laser that I sold to my mum to get the Rav4 is still going strong no problems what so ever. The pick up has always been terrible, I haven't enjoyed owning this car at all.

Our First and Last Toyota
We own a 2007 RAV4 2.4L Cruiser (ACA33R). The car was bought brand new and made in Japan. It's our first Toyota. We always hear people say they are very reliable.
We were pleased we did not have any issue in the first few years. We service and wash the car regularly and we only use Premium Unleaded 98 from day 1. Interior has that cheap plastic feel (we paid about $46K back in 2007). Exterior is OK. Lots of room. 2.4L is enough for us city driver but the accelerator was disappointing. Late response. The service centre said they could not fin...Read more
d any fault. Then we started getting this noisy engine noise when the engine is cold/cool. It seems louder in winter. We mentioned the issue to the service and were told it's the water pump that started leaking. They suggested to leave it until it got worse. A year or two later we had the water pump replaced. No noise in the first week but soon came back. We mentioned to the service centre but they always come back saying they could not hear anything. In the end we just took that as poor Toyota quality. Now only done 88000kms, we also had the alternator replaced. We are now starting to get this clunking noise in the front and rear. We believe the front noise is to do with the steering column. Online forums suggest it's a common problem but Toyota would not recall as it is not a life threatening issue. Well, the noise makes me paranoid and stresses me out. Stress kills and that's life threatening. There is also something with the front brakes. The car seems to twist when braking. As with the clunking noise in the rear, We are still looking for a clue. We will point out the issues in the next service. Not sure what they are going to say but for sure this would be our first and last Toyota.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Sucks oil like its going out of fashion!
yeah I hear you! I bought the 2008 Rav 4, brand new. always serviced every 10000kms at the same Toyota service centre. Just before 100,000km warranty ran out I had to start putting oil in. Told service centre they said they had to keep an eye on it before they could approach Toyota for assistance to fix problem under warranty. 50,000kms later they still haven't done a thing. Not happy! Currently requires to be filled twice before service is due. Now they are telling me it is out of warranty. Am seriously annoyed being strung along all this time!

spacious family car
We have our Rav 4 from 2010, our CV model has been upgraded as we wanted all around airbags, so automatically they had to change the control board and air conditioning buttons to CRUISER type board (lucky us :))))...we love that doors hold the spare tyre and open on the side as we find it more practical for our needs,(more boot space,). We LOVE the square design as this car is very spacious, the tallest driver will have lots of head space ... we love the eyeglasses overhead compartment, we love cup holders, it nice and neat car...On the down si...Read more
de, my hubby doesn't like sitting in co-drivers seat and banging his kneed into the drawer compartment. It's really low and aldough useful, for tall people it's a nuisance. I don't know if it just us but we had to change our battery after 3 years...but all in all we are happy with this car. When we where buying we were dwelling between Subaru Forester (all subaru's are 4wd) and this one, it's was just a persuasive salespersons doing that we have bought rav4 and we are happy.Similar opinion? We Have had a 2006 model from new & it has never let me down. The car Has done 160000km & is totally reliable. The Petrol doesn't last forever which is the only pain. The seating configuration & huge boot space has been handy, there is nothing I couldn't get in it yet. Would def buy Toyota again
Just goes & goes

2012 Rav4 Limited, not worth the money, $32,000 Outback much better vehicle
Gas mileage isn't as good as the 4 cylinder, 19-24 mpg . This vehicle is plagued with varies rattles, visors, moon roof slider etc, already had a power door lock fail at 15,000 miles ; last week check engine was flashing after a loud engine clunk when started cold, varies instruments light came on, restarted, went back to normal, no engine code ! after owning for over a year probably will trade it in soon on another Outback, Toyota's Quality has gone down hill .
performs very well, fast vehicle, nice sound system and the smart key is a great feature
The back doors don't automatically with the smart key, wife doesn't like spare on back

An Okay Car
Not too bad, not too good overall. I once had a brand new 2006 CV. As soon as after warranty period, quite a some "teething problems" started to show up. To be specific,
1. The power steering started to make clicking noises when turning to certain angle. After checking several times, I was told this will not affect safety. However, a reasonable person would definitely worry, when driving with such a problem, especially on a 100k hwy. I ended up get this fixed. Because at the time I was slightly out of warranty, Toyota only covered half of my ...Read more

How many Rav4's do see towing anything anyway?
We have owned a 2008 CV6 since new and have just made the transition to the 2.2 Diesel Cruiser. In this time the CV6 had done only 30,000 k's, but it was used every day in a country town where many short distance trips was the norm. Nevertheless, we still had to have the steering column replaced (a new and better design we were told), and the water pump was replaced because of perished gaskets (well that is what they said). Both are known reported problems and the cost of repairs was $1300. From memory, the extended warranty from new cost $1500...Read more
, so could have saved $200 as this was the only claim, but at least you get peace of mind. The car was fantastic, was a real workhorse for my wife, able to convey large loads, and she became very attached to it. In 5 years we never took the cover off the CV6's spare tyre, except to check the tyre pressure. On to the new 2013 Rav4 diesel: The build and paint are good quality and the doors all close with a solid clunk that is the tell tale of a quality latch. It's more comfortable inside with great seating, it has a good quality sound system with Bluetooth, etc., USB input, and under the system a second USB to charge your phone. The diesel engine is very economical and it's surprising how well that diesel pulls. At idle it sounds just like it should, ticking away with precision. The car drives and handles far better than the old CV6, in part due to the slightly firmer suspension. Although we had never had reason to use one previously, we opted for the full size spare and with the hard rubber mat cover there is still plenty of room. My wife thinks that they could have designed the cover to fit flush with the sides and rear door. The tow rating of the new diesel is... well there is no other word for it... woeful. But towing is not it's purpose for us. We didn't fit a tow bar to the CV6, and we didn't fit a tow bar to this. It's my wife's get about, and she commented today "it feels like a cruiser". fixed price servicing, practicality CV6 ordinary sound system, reliabilitySimilar opinion? difficult as the wiring loom wasnt designed for the newer radios in the 2013 ravs. I also note below that the reviewer said their battery quit after 3 years - thats pretty normal for a battery - that's all you can expect. I also have replaced the front brake pads at 120 000 KM (about right) and I'm on my third set of tyres - the original tyres ( Bridgstones ) supplied on the Rav4 were hellishly expensive - I replaced with generic brand tyres and found them just as good.
