Hi Danelle, thanks for getting in touch.
We are sorry to hear that your side tables have become discoloured. It may be that you've left the cleaner on the tables for too long and because its caustic (it's a degreaser) it can cause discolouration on plastic.
If you could please send us your barbecues serial number and your contact details (plus any pictures if you have them) to [email protected] we can go from there. Thanks Danelle.

G. Hi
G. Hi

Without being rude perhaps you have long fingernails scratching the writing off the dials. Ours is over 4 years old and gets cleaned everyday and dials and side tables are like new. Leaving it sitting in the sun can discolour plastic as well.

Why don't this series of Weber q have an inbuilt thermometer as standard?

1 answer
Weber
Weber Barbecues A.Weber

Hi Daniel, thanks for your question.

We have the option of two models for all of our Q range; standard and premium. Not everyone needs a thermometer or a higher lid; they just want it for cooking steaks or sausages, and are happy with cooking by feel, while others like to know the temperature for roasting and baking. It comes down to personal preference, and we like to think we have something for everyone with our Weber Q range! Hope that helps answer your question and if you have any more, feel free to ask them here or head over to our Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/weberBBQAusNz/ thanks!

Replace the burner. Weber will replace free of charge.

Weber
Weber Barbecues A.Weber

Hi Ron,

Thanks for your question. Have you ensured that your burner tube is free from debris and fats by brushing it with your Weber wire brush? If there are still blocked holes, then you can try poking each individual hole with a paperclip or pin.

Also, ensure that there are no leaks in your gas line from when you changed the regulator; you can do the soapy water test, which involves spraying a diluted mixture of dish soap and water onto the connection points of your gas line, as well as along the hose. If there is a leak, it will be bubbling. Remember to wash off the soap after you've completed the test, as some types of soap can cause corrosion if left on the fittings.

If all of that doesn't help your flame size, then please call us on 1300 301 290 and we can go from there. Thanks again Ron.

how can I fix a thermometer to this Weber?

1 answer
Weber
Weber Barbecues A.Weber

Hi Angie, thanks for your question.

We don't recommend trying to fix a permanent thermometer to your Q, as yours is the standard model and does not have the capacity to hold one. We can recommend two options:
- if you want an in-lid thermometer, then you are able to purchase a premium lid from our head office directly; please call 1300 301 290 to do this.
- alternatively, you can have a look at our thermometer accessories that we have available on our website: https://www.weberbbq.com.au/ - we have the iGrill mini, iGrill 2, Snapcheck Thermometer and the Instant Read Thermometer.

Please let us know if you need any further information. Thanks!

is it safe to change a LPG gas bottle " mid BBQ " if the gas runs out ( in other words do i have to wait until the BBQ cools down first, is there a fire / explosion risk if i install a full LPG bottle while the BBQ is hot )?

Yes of course it's safe. Turn the knobs to off position, then turn the gas bottle off.

Change the bottle, be careful not to touch the bbq lid and sides as they're hot. Then turn the knobs back to the on position and relight the BBQ.

Contiune cooking!!!

Yes perfectly safe. Turn control knobs off. Remove old bottle and fit new one. Leave lid down the whole time. Turn on gas bottle and restart BBQ in normal way.

PS / edit - will the hot burner / lava rocks* immediately ignite the incoming gas from the new gas bottle before i actually relight the BBQ ? * i know the Weber Q doesn't use lava rocks but i also have an older BBQ that does & this question is also in relation to that one.

is it true that you can not cook on the Weber (any weber) BBQ unless the lid is shut? I find this really weird for a BBQ.....

No you can certainly cook with it open, but the results will be very different compared to when it's closed and it'll also take much longer + more had use. However I do cook simple snags with it open and don't have a problem :)
The lid being closed is for the smoke to circulate around your food giving it the smokey flavour!

Weber
Weber Barbecues A.Weber

Hi Ness, thanks for your question.

For over 60 years, Weber has been engineering barbecues with remarkable cooking systems. The Weber gas barbecue cooking system has been specifically designed to work best with the lid closed. By using the barbecue with the lid closed you can achieve a unique barbecued flavour you can’t get any other way. You’ll also save gas and money because your barbecue will be more efficient and you’ll keep your barbecue area clean.
By cooking with the lid closed, you’ll find you get amazing flavour in your food. Barbecue smoke created by fats and juices vaporising on the hot grill bars or hotplate will circulate the food and give it a unique, smokey barbecue flavour. Cooking with the lid open allows all that delicious smokey flavour escape straight into the atmosphere.
Cooking with the lid closed will also help keep your barbecue area clean. Because any fats or juices that spit from food are trapped inside the lid, you won’t have fat splattering all over your deck or veranda.

I had left my family q on low all day as i had forgotten about it. When i came back the side of the kid were brown and the inside of the lid was black. Hi Janine, we're glad to hear that no major incident happened from leaving it on all day. If you use the Q Cleaner, you can leave it on for up to 6 hours for really stubborn stains, then rinse it off with warm water and a scourer. If you need any further cleaning instructions, please email us at [email protected] and we can send you some more tips. Thanks Janine!

Not sure. I think you should ask the Weber people but I would imagine there must be after-market temperature gauges available.

Not only is the answer yes, but it MUST BE DONE to avoid possible meltdown of the aluminium hood. It took me less than 5 minutes to install. First buy a thermometer from Bunnings for around $13.00. It's far more precise and bigger than the crappy one Weber provide. Secondly, measure the centre of the hood just above the handle and go 50mm above the centre of the handle. Drill a small pilot hole (4-6 mm) through the aluminium cover. Check dimensions and if all good, rebore the same hole with 10-13 mm hole to suit the outside threaded thermometer part. Insert into hole and fit lock nut from the inside. That's why I've had a major gripe with Weber. Job done! from Joe

There is no lower lid version with a thermometer. You don't need it though, settings are set to temp's so if you follow the instructions you won't run into an issue. If you really need it though, get an iGrill or external thermometer

Hi Brian,

BBQChampion is right, you won't find a Weber Q with a low lid AND a thermometer. The thermometer is a part of the premium model Weber Qs with the higher lids. You can find your nearest stockist here: https://www.weberbbq.com.au/where-to-buy/

Now your going to ask how did l know it was ready? Well uhh l cook on meduim to low setting for one and a half hours for a whole chicken and l don't turn it over. But the best thing is you get a free cooking guide book & dvd with the weber family Q. I usually burn most my cooking in the house well so my family say. But with the weber family Q l got the hang of it straight away. You can't go wrong. Flavor is amazing. Good luck. Cheers Donna.

The Q3100 / 3200 hood is fully interchangeable. If you really want purchase the Q3100 with your frequent flyer points and the Q3200 hood seperately from Weber customer service. This may be a better option as the Q3100 hood has no hole / provisions for a thermometer so it will require some modifications to the hood to fit one.

Family Q Standard (Q3100AU)

I purchased a Weber Family Q (Q3100AU) around a year ago (love it!).

Now that we have moved to a house with a natural gas port I was wondering if you can convert a LPG version to Natural Gas? I do have a standard natural gas conversion kit - is this good enough?

3 answers
Jjoey
Jjoey

I also purchased a Weber Q 3100. The simple answer is yes it should be possible with many provisos, but you need to consult a gas plumber as to how you go about it. Your kit should provide details of what you need to change, for example the gas jets and regulator to suit natural gas. Also you need to check with Weber if it can take natural gas. As to gas pressure settings, you need to know what your doing, hence a gas and I mean gas plumber's advice, or better still let him do the conversion. He will measure the output gas pressures and regulate pressures accordingly. Also any kit you bought must comply with Australian Plumbing and Gas standards and be approved for use on Australian natural gas systems. Also, the testing should include first time ignition, since any gas especially (LPG) is heavier than air, you don't want an accumulation of gas with the hood down, as you will get more than a fright the first time you light it, I suspect possible a broken nose, singed hair and possible deafness when the whole thing explodes in front of you as could result when you attempt to light it.. Weber do not as far as I know condone this action, or they would have a different version option for use on natural gas. The gases are not the same. LPG has a higher Calorific output than natural gas, like the difference between Kerosene and Petrol. Don't ever throw petrol on a fire because the ignition point is a lot lower, and the explosion will cause severe burns as you cannot drop the container your holding fast enough to escape. My advice: don't do it. For the heck of a few cents, you don't want an accident, Think about your wife or kids who trust the conversion was ok. and get badly burnt in the process.

Hi creativeitch, thanks for your question.

You can convert your barbecue from LPG to NG, but you will need to speak with us first. We have to organise a conversion kit, replacement data label and help provide any tech support that you may need, so best to call us on 1300 301 290 before attempting to do this yourself. Weber barbecues must be certified with the AGA, and comply with regulations in order to still be covered under warranty, etc. Thanks again!

The digital meat thermostat is usually used to check the temp of the meat to see if it is cooked. If you left in inside the lid I am not sure how it would go with the heat.

Dave.1
Dave.1

Heather,
The best and most accurate way I have found is to use the "guide" in the Weber handbook, and measure the thickness of the meat and calculate the minutes accordingly. If you keep opening the lid to check all the time, you lose too much ability of your Weber. It only takes 1 or 2 goes to get your timing perfect. Little flavor hint for you...
Cut one of the larger jam tins, pineapple tins or whatever down to about 40mm, then add a good couple of pinches for commercial wood smoking chips in it and place it in the rear left corner when you first light it and are waiting for the right starting time for cooking arrives. By then the wood chips would have started smoking, leaving a terrific flavor in your roast or whatever you are cooking..Don't be afraid to experiment...
Hopes this helps

Weber
Weber Barbecues A.Weber

Hi Igor - I'm sorry for your experience and frustration here. It is true as you've discovered, that we do have product differentiation in the marketplace.
It is fairly clear on our Australian and New Zealand websites as to where consumers can purchase the different products available.
Rest assured though that the Q3100 that you have purchased will perform everything that the Q3200 does, the tempo gauge that comes in the lid of the Q3200 is really a guide to the internal temp of the unit, and NO where in the instructions do we every refer to the temp shown here, but only the control knob settings that you need depending on the cooking you are doing. For example, your unit CAN roast and bake in exactly the same way as the other model - all the instructions are in the booklet that came with the unit.
Any questions on cooking please let us know - or check out the videos on www.weberbbq.com.au

Probably depends on how big the roast is. As the bigger lid model was only $10 extra it was a no brainer to buy it just in case you wanted to do a big roast.
It also comes with a thermometer in the lid so we didnt hesitate. Only thing is they are only available at full Weber licenced stores.

Ross, yep, this is our second weber. the first was a Q and we carried it around travelling Australia for 5 years, cooked everything on it, from redclaw crays to large pieces of beef. Also, legs of lamb.Great!. Our latest is the family Q, had it for a year and great. Easier to light than the last one,has an extra burner. If you buy one get an extra flat plate, so you can cook bacon and eggs etc.Don't wory about a thermometer, only available from weber specialists, we use a meat thermometer, works great. Love our, also, buy a stand, makes life easier!!

Weber
Weber Barbecues A.Weber

Hi Ross - as mentioned the only difference here is the height of the roast - meaning all models of Weber Qs can roast, or bake, or grill, or fry etc. The higher lid models do allow for a larger roast, but for example, in a low lid Q3100 fit any size leg of lamb, or chicken or beef roast you could buy - it's basically only large turkeys that could be an issue - a Q3100 would still fit a 6kg Turkey though.
Hope that helps,
