Are waiting periods waived if you transfer from other fund that you have been a member for for over 40 years?

Hi Nadia, Thank you for considering us! If you have already served your waiting periods from your previous cover you will not serve any waiting periods on equal benefits on your new Westfund Policy.
Where you may serve waiting periods:
- any benefits under your new policy that were not included in your previous cover
- any difference between a Westfund benefit and the one provided by your previous fund, where the Westfund benefit is higher
- the unexpired portions of any waiting periods that haven’t been fully served under the terms of your previous cover
- the difference between any excess or co-payment payable under the previous cover and the new cover (where the previous cover carried a higher excess or co-payment)

Hi, can you tell me if Westfund has a preferred optometrist in Perth please? I live on Christmas Island and only get to Perth once or twice a year.

Thanks for your question - Westfund doesn't have preferred optometrists at this point in time. If you have Extras cover or combined Hospital and Extras cover, you're able to claim up to your benefit amount (which varies depending on which policy you're on) at any optometrist you choose. There's more information about benefit limits on our website at https://www.westfund.com.au/health-plans/
We do have a Dental Provider of Choice in Perth. If you're on any Extras only or Combined Hospital and Extras policy you're completely covered for selected preventative dental services, including check-ups, scales, cleans, x-ray, mouth guard and fluoride treatments at any Westfund Dental Provider of Choice Network dentist, up to your annual limit (waiting periods may apply). Can i claim on medication i take?

Hi Bill.
Westfund does have a Prescriptions, Vaccinations and Injection benefit on most of our Extras covers and combined Hospital and Extras covers.
Depending on your level of cover, you may be able to make a claim per prescription for the amount that exceeds the standard PBS co-payment. There’s more information about the Prescriptions, Vaccinations and Injections benefit in the Policy Summaries, which can be found on our website – go to https://www.westfund.com.au/health-plans/, choose your level of cover and plan and click on the “Download Policy Summary” link under the main page heading.

Hi Julie,
Good question. Children are covered until 21 on our family covers. If they're studying they can stay on your cover until 25. If they are not studying you can join an extended family cover and they can remain until 25. Please send us a message with your details if you would like a consultant to call you to talk about this. Hi Westfund
Can I choose which extras I need to reduce my premium. It is becoming very expensive to keep health cover.
being in my late 50's there are a number of extras I would not use.
I am considering changing funds as it has become so expensive and a further increase coming soon....

Dear Anne,
Unfortunately, you cannot choose the specific Extras services within your cover. Our covers are all pre-packaged. We design our cover options to ensure people have an appropriate cover that is fit for it's purpose. Our Gold Classic for example, is a product designed for older singles and couples who do not wish to have any more children so this product excludes pregnancy cover, benefits for orthodontia or swimming lessons.
