I would like to know the option that has private hospital cover for cosmetic surgery and weather u cover this
Due to weight loss or not
1 answer
Julie T.Westfund Health Insurance
Hi Linda m, thank you for taking the time to ask this question. Unfortunately, cosmetic surgery would only be covered if it sits under the clinical category of plastic and reconstruction surgery and is deemed medically necessary.
Weight loss surgery is an inclusion on our Gold Hospital policy. This policy covers the below weight loss procedures:
o Hospital treatment for surgery that is designed to reduce a person’s weight, remove excess skin due to weight loss and reversal of a bariatric procedure.
o For example: gastric banding, gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy.
To ensure you are covered for your elected procedure, we advise you to get a quote from your doctor which includes the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) item numbers and email the quote with your enquiry to [email protected]
If you wish to discuss your enquiry in further detail, please send us a private message with your best contact number and we will arrange for a member of our team to give you a call.

I am considering changing to Westfund. Do they have a preferred optical provider in Redcliffe Queensland or with 50km
2 answers
I am in NSW and go to a Specsaver shop and Westfund give me a refund of approx $250 ( sometimes I don’t spend that as with most places they cover the eye test through Medibank and Specsavers claim and I don’t have to do a thing) I know there is a Westfund at Maroochydore Qld. Just give them a call. Good luck with it all
Thanks.This has been helpful.

Qqqasked
I m interested in advantage extras. I have my preferred dentist who is not in your network. Can I still claim? The pds is not explicit in how much like pds from other health funds.
3 answers
I am not sure but I think you could still claim from Westfund
You can claim but not 100% for preventive dental items like check up, clean, fluoride, x-rays, mouth guards or fissure sealants if you don’t go with westfund dentists. The amount was written on my pds, was like $30 for check up and $60 for clean. If in doubt you can ask hicaps quote from your dentist.
Julie T.Westfund Health Insurance
Hi Qqq, you can claim from a dentist who is not from our Provider of Choice Network. By choosing a dentist from the Provider of Choice Network, you will not pay any out-of-pocket expenses on selected services. I hope this helps to answer your question.

I woulod like a list of westfund providers in Western Australia. I can only find dental on the internet

You can claim from any dental and any optical against Westfund, you don't have to use their centres as well (as they are only on the east coast). They don't have "preferred providers" as such. Is that what you mean?
Julie T.Westfund Health Insurance
Hi Helen,
Currently our Provider of Choice Network in Western Australia only includes dental practices, however the Network itself does now also include physiotherapists. If you would like to recommend a dental or physiotherapy practice for the Provider of Choice Network, simply email their details to [email protected]

If I was to transfer my health insurance from BUPA to Westfund would I have to serve waiting periods. I have been with BUPA since 1975.
1 answer
Julie T.Westfund Health Insurance
Hi Sharon, Thank you for comparing with us. You will not serve any waiting periods on equal benefits on your new Westfund Policy.
Where you may serve waiting periods:
- any benefits under your new policy that were not included in your previous cover
- any difference between a Westfund benefit and the one provided by your previous fund, where the Westfund benefit is higher
- the unexpired portions of any waiting periods that haven’t been fully served under the terms of your previous cover
- the difference between any excess or co-payment payable under the previous cover and the new cover (where the previous cover carried a higher excess or co-payment)
We understand switching may seem difficult, Sharon. However, if you’d like to call our Contact Centre on 1300 937 838 we will be more than happy to personally compare your current policy and waiting periods for you.
