Hi I"ve got a Zigler Brown Twin Burner natural gas model but we also like to go camping etc so i would like to know if I can simply change the natural gas regulator to a LPG regulator to run LPG?

Hi

Generally when the conversion is done from LPG to Natural gas - different injectors are put in. So you will need to go to the original injectors too.

Can you bake a cake with a Ziegler and brown?

yep, https://www.zieglerandbrown.com.au/bbq-tips/bbq-recipes ... I've only done brownies in mine, but they worked out well. I do recommend the use of a water bath for baking.

How do I remove the lid completely from my Ziggy for easier cleaning ?

It’s very easy to take of the lid. At the back you’ll see where the lid hinges to close and open. Here you will see a split pin holding a pin in place. The split pin is like a wavy piece of wire. Pull on the wire out of the pin. Once out you can pull the pin out of the hinge. Repeat for the other side. The lid will be able to be removed.

My Ziggy lid is secured at the sides and does not have the back hinge.
Thank you for your kind reply

I found how to remove your Ziggy lid. On the side where the lid and base rotate you’ll see a single bolt. If you unscrew the bolt and do the same for the other side the lid will come off. Your model was different to the one we had.

How do I cook a pork belly in the Ziegler & Brown?

Just think of your Ziggy as a oven and cook as you were at home. The Ziggy has a temperature gauge. Everything we can cook at home we can cook on the Ziggy. Pork belly use a wire rack so it sits up off the grill. Same as chooks and roasts.

How do I season the grill n plates for a new bbq?

Hi G, we’ve had our Ziggy for many years and we never seasoned it he grill. It wasn’t raw cast iron. If it was you would heat the grill brush with cooking oil and then heat. But we’ve had ours for many years and just used it as it is since we bought it still going strong. The only thing we’ve replaced is the jets not working like it use too.

Oh thats great!! Thank you !! I love my new Ziggy, Best thing I've ever purchased

I apoligize in advance if this question has already been answered but can we use a bbq grill mat in our ziggy ?

1 answer
GoneCamping1975
GoneCamping1975

Hi Trishart, I have never personally used a bbq grill mat with our Ziggy. If they would work with other bbq it should work with the Ziggy. When we bought ours there were accessories that made one side of the grill solid for your eggs etc. You could have the whole grill solid or just half of the cooking area. When closed our Ziggy can get hot like an oven. It can get over 300 degrees if cranked. I hope this helps.

Is it ok to cook tomatoes and use citrus fruit on the hot plates? We are worried that the acid in the food may make the plates go rusty. We love our Ziegler & Brown 2 burner that we went and purchased the portable one some months later.

Well cast iron can rust. However utilising a cooking oil and just regular use of the bbq will prevent any rust. Even just a light spray of oil on the plates after use. To protect them not just from acidity but just from the general weather.

I have brought a Ziggy to the UK. Given the LPG has a different regulator connection in the UK, can I simply unscrew the hose and australian regulator and screw on a UK hose and LPG regulator?

Yeah I would think so but check with gas supply company to make sure.

pebble

I don't see why not, you're not really changing anything apart from the connections.
Sounds like propane is used as LPG both in the UK and Aus. Although I have read that in the UK you can buy propane or butane separately. Still I don't see any reason why Aus regulators would be much different.
If you were planing to use natural gas instead of LPG then that would be a different story.

Can you roast meat and vegetable at the same time on a twin grill Ziegler and brown? Doesn't look like there's enough room?

3 answers
Terry

I have a three burner, so I can't really advise. But in our case, we have a stand on which the vegetable can sit and the roast will go under it. Also, perhaps you could put the vegetables in with the roast in one dish.

pebble

I haven't roasted anything in our twin grill Ziggy but it can fit my normal 40cm x 28cm x 8cm high baking dish comfortably. This dish is what I use to cook a roast and veg in our standard 60cm oven (veg an roast in the one dish).

Side by side two 24cm square cake tins fit. Although considering the dome shape of the lid you would probably have to be mindful of the height / shape of the roast.
Hope this helps.

Hi Christie yes no problem we use a roasting pan with a rack and start the roast then add the veggies later so they finish together. Comes out a treat

I haven’t tried two solid hot plates I just bought the one which works great with the lid open, I don’t see why you couldn’t use two at the same time :)

Thanks. I have heard that when you use 2 solid hot plates it cuts down the ventilation.

I was told by BBQs Galore that this is a big NO. It stops heat circulation and the base of the BBQ can become too hot, damaging the burners, igniters & possibly the BBQ itself.

Not directly on flame. To side or on rack or elevated tray on low. Smoking box optional. Cook slow

We only used one side and cooked on the other, in a small foil tray, I was beautiful then I cooked sweets after in our ziggy.

You can buy the Ziegler and Brown baking dish with trivet or you can buy an bbq trivet that fits but put down a layer of aluminium foil first. Don't forget to remove the aluminium foil once you have finished cooking..

Tried cooking a pizza with a pre-made base for the first time following the instruction card that came with the stone.
After ending up with a pizza with a rock hard over cooked base I went back and re-read the instruction card. The problem appears to be that the card refers to the three burner model not the two burner. Has anybody been though the problem of having overcooked bases?

I recommend you place the pizza stone on a trivet but first put al foil down. Works for me every time. BTW this method helps with roasts and baking, You can also buy a baking dish with trivet in it.

Was this changed to run on natural gas, ours is LP Gas and has no problem lighting, I would definitely ring the shop. Ours lights straight away, you could have a faulty unit.

All good. Shop sorted me out. Ordered a replacement manifold. Also wasn't pushing in knob properly to get the flame thrower working. Thanks
