Hi I have just bought a 2004 A’van cruisliner and was wondering what portable solar panel would be best to buy to go free camping . A 250 watt one is quite heavy, would a 160 watt one be efficient enough . I only have basics in van such as microwave and maybe a tv ( not sure on that one yet) . Thank you in advance

Open the hatch, photograph it, and measure its length width height, and note the location and diameter of the terminals; but a photo should be enough to work out what you need. On it there should be some data such as voltage (i assume 12volts) and the cca number ('cold cranking amps'). All that should do the trick. Getting it out and the new one is is the fun part.

The over centre catches on our '99 Aliner roof have torn out (previous owners) and been poorly reattached in the past. My plan is to screw and sikaflex a long wide aluminium plate in that area then attach the over centre fastener to that. Wondering if anyone has a better more succesful soltion?

Hi Paul. Sounds like a pain but I reckon you are probably on the right track. Sikaflex is not a bad product but i would make sure your plate is at least 3mm and screw into the wall panel as well. You only have thin aluminium over 3mm plywood with 25mm of expanded polystyrene inside. I don't believe there is anything structural around that area.
I expect the correct adjustment in the side catches is probably critical in preventing this failure from happening. All the best with that.

Thanks Dave. Yes the alluminium plate is thick enough. It will be Sikaflexed and screwed to the wall with about 6 coarse thread 20mm stainless screws plus the 4 on the bracket. It will be critical they have good grip into the plate because there's nothing solid left of the wall behind them! FYI if anyone interested, the alluminiym plate is about 170 wide and 75 high.
If all goes well, it will be template for the other side, which is also not too good.
I reckon overly tight adjustment led to the damage in the first place; too much strain on the flimsy wall.

The repair went very well. Now I'll do the right side.

A couple of issues with my 2017 cruiseliner that I need a bit of help with. the water connection is leaking badly from behind the larger free spinning section. The van seems to vibrate up and down movement when travelling along the freeway only on concrete sections. Lastly the aluminium angle on the top section that seals onto the rubber has parted in the corner. Any ideas? thanks

Hi Paul. Have you been in touch with Avan? If i had a 2017 model with these problems I would be hassling and threatening Consumer advocacy intervention. From my experience the water connection is a dodgy design often poorly assembled in the factory. I have seen a brand new 2018 Aliner with a cross threaded connection that had obviously never been tested. Unless your Cruisliner has been in a prang or abused (you haven't been towing on corrugated dirt roads have you? In which case Avan will attempt to deny warranty claims) the aluminium strip parting company is also a factory issue. The concrete freeway issue could be related to wheels out of balance, loose or broken wheel studs, loose or damaged wheel bearing, damaged shock absorber or mounting, or just the crappy nature of most concrete freeways in Australia. Remember, that even if your Avan warranty has technically expired, in Australian consumer law your Cruiseliner must also be fit for purpose and be sufficiently durable to last for what would be considered a reasonable length of time. In other words open to reasonable interpretation, and worth pursuing.
Best of luck with that.

What size tow ball do I need I have a 2011. Have a 50ml tow ball at the moment and when traveling it bangs.

Hi Shell.
Without seeing your set up, are you sure it is the ball which is loose or your tow hitch. I can adjust both on my 2010 Aliner, with a threaded bolt and locknut on the top of the towball hitch with the hitch connected to your towball. Undo the lock nut and adjust with a flat screwdriver (clockwise to take up slack from memory) and re-tighten nut. Do not overtighten the ball head. Here is a vid link - https://youtu.be/xMVUIxQ93m0
Likewise I have a bolt and locknut under my square towbar hitch which enables me to take some movement out of my square tow hitch.
While you're at it, make sure any other bolts/fasteners securing your towball coupling on the trailer and your tow bar on your vehicle are not loose.
All the best with that.

My fridge has just stopped working on 240V. Where are fuses located so I can check this first before heading to technician? Thanks. Any ideas?

i am not aware that an Avan has a fuse for 240 volt operation of the fridge. I had a similar situation with a Jayco and it was easy to identify that the problem was a burnt out 240 volt element. Not overly expensive but you need to access the back of the fridge to replace it yourself which I did in a couple of hours.

Hi again. Fixed my leaks and fixed my budgie cords but while I was getting a screwdriver from shed wind blew and front panel blew right over assisted by the springs and popped quite a few rivets. I used 4 mm x 9 mm reach and pulled the aluminium edge back into line but it has been a bit dinged. Anyone have an idea how to drill out all rivets and access the springs and metal hinge to assess damage. Anyone have diagram of how the front section is secured, please don't tell me it's held on by ten pop rivets.

Hi I'm not sure how you will fix the panel but there is a comprensive rebuild on the Avan Owners site on the internet. Sorry I dont remember which site it was so you may have to search a bit for it. The article describes how to replace the springs that rais e and lower the roof sections. Thats about all I can help you with at this moment. Preach

I recently purchased an Aliner 3C and I am having problems with the small skylight vents near the peak of the roof as they vibrate open while travelling, luckily I haven't lost one yet. Is there a simple way of securing them, apart from screwing the winder up tight which usually breaks or strips the knurling. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Hi, I haven't had any problems with the vents vibrating open on my van so far. I remember reading online on one of the Avan owner sites about that problem but can,t remember which one as I have read so many. Perhaps trying to secure the winder some how might be a solution. Apart from doing that I have no real solution at the moment. Sorry I am unable to help very much. Kel

Actually, I dont think they are designed to be up when vehicle is moving. We always close ours. Keeps dust out as well. Doesnt take long to air out once you have reached
your destination.

In my Avan 2001 Aliner the Electrolux 60 ltr fridge doesn't work on 240 volt. The manual says to check the fuse but I cannot find it. Can anyone give me direction as to where the fuse is located?
Tom.

It's a circuit breaker on starboard side behind microwave under hatch. Throw the switch. Don't have more than three things running.
