Avoid the worst insurance company ever
We waited and paid so much a year for hospital cover, we barely use the cover and was rushed to the hospital to find out they didn't cover one cent. When you are in an emergency you want a cover and insurance that helps you, we called and they don't help and they don't care.

This company has little to no empathy to it loyal clients. We have over 20 years of loyalty.
No satisfied win by empathy considering the terrible circumstances of the death of my two brothers, I lost my job. We're struggling to get through the grief. We decreased the only way we could. I am so disappointed in the fact that AHM have refused to assist in helping out to silly policy back with no waiting period. Shame shame shame. Do not trust this fund.

Good luck getting your money back!
What I've learned from this is that you can never know what kind of insurance company you're dealing with until they owe you money, so the positive reviews left by some may be in for a shock down the road. The cover was to satisfy my student visa requirements so I took out a 3 year policy. After just over a year, I left the course and Australia permanently and so applied to terminate my cover and be given a refund of the remainder. st falling down a black hole of non-communication, they have managed to give me a small amount of what I paid back using the same bank details I've been providing throughout this whole process. Most frustrating though, is their refusal to answer ANY of my questions, like why the same bank details that I have been providing and were 'incorrect' are now suddenly viable; or why I had to explain in writing how they should do a bank transfer; or why they won't tell me how they calculated that refund amount. They are outright ignoring me. The customer service is appalling, bizarre even. In fact I think maybe I was corresponding with AI because of the ignored requests and lack of remorse or self-analysis over the headache this has turned out to be for me over the last few months. I never write feedback but this experience became so frustrating and time-consuming. They so clearly don't care about you as a customer and I feel I need to warn people about them. Perfect so far, no claims yet
My policy is by far the cheapest option for my situation, I hadn't had private health insurance until I realised that I would actually save money by taking out basic hospital & extras cover, rather than paying the medicare levy.
The peace of mind of having this cover is now a great feeling.

Works for us
We joined about 3 month ago with 2 and 6 month waiting periods waived we have used it for dental at dentist they prefer cost us hardly anything and my wife uses it for remedial massage we feel it’s good value

Easiest health fund ever.. highly recommend
I can't speak highly enough of AHM to others so the negative reviews here surprised me. I've changed my policy twice over the many years I've been with them and the ins and outs of each product is always clear and easy to understand.
Affordable policies to choose from, good rebates and limits compared to some. Great Extras.
Love the website too .. easy to use (great for me) and I find most info I need... like checking how much is available for certain things etc. Online claims are so simple with rebates paid quickly, usually within days.

I quit my insurance today
I really wasn’t happy with the service and the lack of support there was for the top insurance, I got a dental clean and still had to pay $200! I won’t recommend to anyone

Slow to process claims
AHM are great if you process the claim online. But for claims that require you to lodge them via email, they are incredibly slow. I have been waiting for over two months for AHM to process a claim. The only reply I get when I contact them is that my claim has been sent to the relevant department. Now I have to process an orhtodontic claim with them and am out of pocket $1000 while I wait.

Terrible customer service - stay away!
I had been paying for top hospital and pregnancy cover with AHM for years. 2 weeks before having my baby via elective c section I contacted AHM to double check that everything was ready at their end. However, the lady on the phone was extremely rude and told me that I was not covered for my procedure and nothing had been arranged at their end. No helpful, only interested in profits.
I joined AHM in 2014 because I thought they were good value for money. The reality is, unless you are willing to pay the premium, you aren't cover when you really need it. For example, I had basic hospital cover and had to get a colonoscopy. Apparently that isn't 'basic' even though the 3 doctors I have spoken to would categorise this procedure as basic. Nope, not covered. I decided I would cancel my insurance as Im sure it is cheaper to just pay the medicare levy. ajor and general. 6 months pass and I have a dentist visit. I need to get my wisdom teeth removed. Awesome, I thought - I have that cover. I was unaware that I was put on a 12 months waiting period for major dental when I changed cover so imagine my surprise to find this out. I called them this afternoon to see if there was anyway around this as I have been a customer for years and that I have only claimed about $200 in that time on fillings. Too bad, there is nothing they can do. Im told if I had chosen the top cover and there would be no issues. The reason for the waiting period, according to the lady I spoke to, was to make it fair for everyone... I think by everyone she must have meant shareholders because it's not fair on the public that's for sure. After years and the amount of money I have paid, you would think that they may be willing to assist but all they are concerned with is increasing premiums and posting record profits. I have a dentist appointment on Monday and after that I will be terminating my cover with AHM. I advise anyone reading not to get caught up in the marketing campaign. Whopping next payment
In March we bought 12 months of insurance for approx $3600. We have been notified our payment in March next year is over $8000. Seems they want to really charge us $6000 per year as this $2000 more than our yearly payment from after next year. Getting through on the phone is impossible.

So far not so good
I joined 13th of March, it’s now 29th and still no card to be able to utilise the ‘waived waiting periods’. Called them and they said they are having issues with their cards at the moment.
Haven’t made a claim as yet, but pretty poor service to have to wait this long for a card and no explanation of when it will arrive!

Great value
I was doing my own research for a health fund that was best suited to me & AHM was by far the best looking.
Ever since being a member I have not had one problem. It is really good value price wise & claiming money back is always in my account within the week.
Can not fault this fund.

Terrible Customer Service
I changed health funds 8 weeks ago & AHM still haven't sent the certificate of clearance through to my new health fund, I have phone twice & I am currently on hold again... for 26 mins so far & counting... You cant complain about the customer service as there isn't any at ALL...

About to change
After switching over on a health funds insurance review I noted that overall monthly costs were still extremely high. No information given relating to being over 65 and getting reduced rates. About to change again. They had better not continue to debit my card or else there will be an application to wind up the company for outstanding debts. Anyone else who has outstanding refunds owing may want to join the action if this happens. Alternative is to lodge complaints with the Insurance Ombudsman (after all they do sell health insurance).

ril 6th 2018 Update: Finally - Out After a review of our health insurance with on line comparisons, got a policy with another provider saving at least $80 per month and got rid of a lot of unnecessary items. From time of notifying of cancellation, took over two weeks before it was done and despite repeated requests for confirmation of action, never got one until refund of unused portion put into my back account. The customer service is non existent on responding and even when you do get through on the phones it keeps getting cut off with the automated pre recorded messages.Similar opinion? Excellent service I received much better than MBF
The policy was recommended to me from iselect who do a comparision of all extras packages for me. iselect is highly recommended also. AHM stood head and shoulders above the rest so far as the amount of refund I got and the price on my premium. Even much better than MBF who I was with for years years ago. They answer their phones instantly- without any hold and they have the easiest and such speedy refund process on providers that don't have HICAPS. I couldn't be any happier

Wouldn’t recommend to my worst enemy
Did my acl playing footy, rang up gave them all the details drs procedure numbers and so on, they said I was all covered. Made the claim and I received $300 back out of $5100. They paid for the hospital stay and not the procedure. Which they said they would. But when I rang them after they told me that they don’t work with that doctor. If I knew that I wouldn’t have had the surgery because I just couldn’t afford it. Now I’m in debt over this company. Would not recommend to anybody.

Very happy with AHM
Have only been with AHM for 3 months but i have been very happy in many ways -
1. excellent customer service - their live chat service is usually very quick and informative, ive managed to have all my queries resolved without a hitch. easy to set up.
2. no waiting period for what i needed insurance for (acupuncture and pharmacy medicines). started saving immediately.
3. very easy claim process
I'm surprised with the bad reviews they seem to have, so far it has worked out very well for me. I saw a review that the information wasnt presented clearly. For the policy i am on, i have been given correct and accurate information.
