Beware of Apricus, on an average they are an ok company just like all the rest. But they have a bad reputation for not honouring their warranties, they will try every trick they can to swindle you out of your claim WHEN something goes wrong with your system. and it will happen. make sure you do your research before signing up with them.

We purchased an APRICUS Solar Hot Water System exactly 2yrs ago at a cost of over $4000. A few days ago the MANIFOLD on the roof cracked due to the frost but was caused by the CONTROLER failing ! Because the Warranty on the CONTROLER was only 1yr - APRICUS will not cover the cost of replacing EITHER ! It would therefor appear to cost MORE to maintain these units than the cost of electricity. We have been quoted a minimum of $1000 and the SAME THING COULD HAPPEN NEXT WINTER !!!!!!! It looks like we purchased a VERY EXPENSIVE HOT WATER ...

I was one of the very first people to purchase an Apricus hot water service in Hervey Bay back in 2009. My gripe, is that while they say "free energy from the sun;" the very truth is, that there is always a hidden cost to these systems. Nearly Two years after installation, my solar pump died, and I rang the installation electrician to get a new one. BLOODY HELL!!!!! A replacement unit cost me a total of $625. Not what I was expecting. To ad injury to insult, he didn't notify Apricus, and my claim for compensation was refused. (not my fault...
Read more). I have decreased the load on the unit by switching the pump to the lowest level, and up to now it has been operating successfully for the past few years (fingers crossed): But now the tank temperature is not going to it's max of 70C in the middle of the day,not even reaching 62C and falling off at night to as low as 30C. I assume this has some thing to do with the collector units and heat transfer unit. Now I have to find a "qualified" Apricus agent here in Hervey Bay to check out the heat exchanger unit for me. I calculated out, that if I had kept my original hot water unit, I would have been better off financially on Tarif 3 off- peak, as I am the only one in my house; so it makes you wonder about all this "green crap" and ALL THE ASSOCIATED HIDDEN COSTS including pump replacements. I woukld strongly suggest anybody needing a pump replacement ensure they get an industrial grade pump - cheaper in the long run.

I purchased a new townhouse with Thermann hot water system. 13 months after completion, glass panel broke in pipe. On a Saturday morning so I did not expect service on weekend. However, on Monday, given complete run around. Insisted I provide original invoice for purchase and installation despite my not being the purchaser. Eventually the builder became involved and provided paperwork, then Apricus told me they would send an email and put a request in the system to have repair done. This was not an oven not working, this was me (in winter and i...

Water tank sprung a leak last Monday night (10th April) and rang Apricus next day. Sent all information including proof of purchase and photos of problem to Apricus. Have contacted Apricus a number of times to discuss and the problem has still not been assessed. We have been without regular hot water for over a week. This is the second tank that has failed. The first leaked one year after installation.
I must say that after the above post that Apricus did spring into action and arranged to send a new tank and arrange for its installation. O...
Read moren the advice of the excellent recommended plumber (Ereco WA) the tank was switched from stainless steel to glass lined as the source of our tank failures was (evidently) aggressive Perth water that corrodes stainless steel. The new tank is installed and the system works very well. John- Date Purchased
I was overseas and my solar panel glass tubes were broken. I called Apricus' hotline and the operator put me onto their director straight away. He then connected me to their contract plumber within a few hours and the tubes were replaced straight away, with the roof tidied up as well. All done while I was overseas.

I have to admit that I can not complain about the hot water that is be generated from my Apricus 30 Manifold Hot Water System, majority of the time water is TOO hot. But I will go on record to say that this type Apricus Hot Water System is not energy saving or efficient.
Because I am a household with 1 occupant, I lose appropriately 12litres of water a week through the release valve pipe through constant dripping. I have passed on this concern on to the installer and after he changed the release value 3-4 weeks after installation, I was told...
Read more to take more showers each day, he says it is because I am not using enough of hot water daily. The installer has not been helpful in solving this problem or taking my concerns seriously and I would not recommend his company or him to anyone. I have given up on reporting this problem to the Installer and he has not come back to me since our last communication back in July 2016. We are all trying to economise, save money and save energy resources, this system is not doing this. It has the thumbs down from me, I would not recommend this system to anyone.- Date Purchased

Bought a new townhouse with Apricus solar water heating and am finding it extremely disappointing. We don't have a lot of hot water coming through in the kitchen - I fill up a bucket of cold water before any hot water appears. We now have three leaks in the pipes outside where the tank is which has damped the brick wall. I called Apricus on the 1300 number to log in an urgent call - am still waiting for a response. This 1300 number is only answered Monday to Friday - there is no other emergency number to call. I have to wait until Monday to see if I have a response and in the meantime water is still leaking down the brick wall. I would not recommend this solar water heating system to anyone.

Since installing in 2013 I have no idea if my Series 2000 is working or not. The installer just installed the Apricus and that's it. I called the installer for support but he refused to help because he was owed money by the Apricus support representative here in Hobart. I paid several thousand dollars for something that can't tell me if I've even had a single cent returned on this investment. My heating/hot water bill is $400 quarter.

Our 22 tube 250lt system has been good for 9 years.
We had to get the controller changed just out of warranty of course but they gave us a discount on new one. I estimate that this system saves us about $300 a year on electricity.
I would get the 300L system next time as it would be more efficient when there is less sun.
Thanks Jules, appreciate the feedback.

My name is Kevin & I'm a batchelor & I have installed an Apricus gas boosted system. I've probably gone a bit overboard but I've installed a 30 tube onto a 250L tank with 26L booster. Ignoring advice I've been given I've switched my booster off the day we installed it back in October & haven't switched it on yet. It is only me in the house & it's been installed throughout summer but I can't wait to see how far into autumn I go without boosting, great product which actually works !!
I have to add to my previous review because I truly believed I'd be switching my booster on sometime in April but I still haven't, I couldn't possibly get through May could I ......

I just removed my five year old Apricus system where it should have lasted for 10 years. I had a horrible experience with the system and company. First, when it was installed, the plumber inserted a valve upside down. After numerous and frustrating phone calls, it was finally fixed. Second, even though the company claimed that the system is used widely in Europe, my system always lost a huge amount of temperature overnight. From April to October (in Perth), I'd have to use the booster to get any hot water for a shower in the morning. Third, som...
Read moreething else went wrong with the system. After more frustrating phone calls, a plumber determined that a valve needing replacing and would cost $1,300. Fourth, my dealings with the installer and company were always negative and extremely frustrating. Do not install an Apricus system. There are hardly any plumbers around who are trained, replacing parts is very expensive and the company obviously has serious issues with customer service. The same principal as cars applies - go with an Edwards or Solarhart system. They're common and simple technology.Hi Andy,

After some years of faultless operation I have a nasty leak in the manifold. Can't get Apricus to return calls, so we're reduced to running outside to turn the water on and off when we need it. Come on Apricus, a bloody phone call is just not that hard.

Read morey the authorised installer about 2 weeks back, is FANTASTIC. My earlier comment was hasty and ill considered, and as of now I would happily recommend Apricus to anyone. So, here we are 3 months later. This system has been so efficient we've only had the booster heater turned on for 6 days. The gas meter man will think we've moved out.

Have had this system for 5 years. Keeps the water really hot even in the winter We almost never have the electric booster on and when we do only for two hours prior to having our showers. Apart from having trouble with the pump which failed after 3 years and was replaced FREE have had no troubles at all.
To the ones that say it doesn't work I would say its poor installation that is causing it. One suggestion is to bleed the system at the valve on the hot water cylinder as gas can build up in the tank and prevent circulation. Another reaso...
Read moren is that the sensors are not installed correctly and don't allow the pump to turn on. We had a Crow pull the top sensor out of the tank ( Not enough silicone) and system stopped circulating. Reglued it and had no more trouble. Our roof is north facing with correct slope on it. Can actually boil the water in the summer it is that good. We are building a new house and will certainly have another one installed. Have Friend in Coffs with one and it works beautifully as well. A neighbour across the road has an East facing unit and it also works fine and was installed by the same guy as ours. UPDATE The one way valve that stops backfeeding at night got some calcification on it which prevented it from closing and so cooled the water in the tank overnight. Replaced it for $11 and fixed the problem. Also had to replace the tempering valve on the house. However that wasn't associated with the Apricus system. I have fitted a temperature gauge in the spare outlet in the top part of the hot water tank and so know exactly how hot our water is. Bought it on line for $14 and it screwed right in. So I keep the controller temp reading the roof tank temp and so know if any difference due to backfeeding, etc.- Date Purchased

Had a 215L tank with 22 tube collector fitted to our house in Brisbane March 2015. Roof is perfectly positioned - N 2 deg E. However, from the outset the system failed to heat the water to any extent despite good periods of sun. After installation, three visits by (different) plumbers sent by Apricus, the last of whom was here for over an hour whilst on the phone to the Apricus "guru", it has finally started to produce hot water in some sort of quantity. But it is rapidly approaching summer here - 29 deg and full sun in Brisbane now so if wa...
Read moreter was not hot the system would be down the tip! Had a Hills system previously that seriously out-performed this one (would give good hot water even on cloudy days) but Hills system is no longer available. I am reserving judgment on how good the system is until weather cools down again - at least Apricus are only too aware of the problems we have had if the system fails to heat the water when it is cooler. May I add that I have been experimenting with its performance with the electric booster switched off to see how it goes. The previous Hills system only ever needed the booster switch on for a max of 7-10 days a year. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. The biggest disappointment has been that Apricus have always sent a sub-contract plumber out to look at it. In the circumstances, wouldn't it have been a good idea for Apricus themselves to attend?Hi,

Read more months (we're talking Brisbane here so not that cold) and a local plumber finally fitted a one-way valve in the system to prevent thermosyphoning on cold days (why was this not in the system to start with??). The after-sales support from Apricus would not sell me another one.Labour warranty only 12 months insufficient to cover when faulty tank needs replacing
Tank leaking and been replaced after almost 4 years from installing but now I will now be out of pocket for the plumber and electrician, probably over $600 to install the replacement tank and re-connect to power. What is the point of the warranty not covering labour when labour is necessary to put the replacement for the faulty tank in and it is not my fault? Bought the system in good faith that it would help with saving energy...
Installed our apricus system in November 2014 on the basis that it was supposed to be so superior to alternative solar systems. Initially we were very happy with the system and all seemed well, until, we received our first electricity bill. Our electricity consumption increased by 50% in the first three months after we installed the apricus system.
We switched off the electric back up off to see of the solar tubes worked. The solar tubes are not able to heat the water even on cloudless days. We cannot go more than 2 days without the electric ...
We finally got a good technician from Apricus. He made several changes to the system and it is now working great. Just took from February to end of July to get someone who knew what they were doing.
