Very Disappointing!!!
I've been using AVIS for a while for intrastate work trips. Recently had an incident where paint fell off the back of a truck and was splatted all over the side of the rental vehicle. I reported it to AVIS 10 mins after it occurred, provided all the details and arranged to swap the vehicle over that afternoon so AVIS might have a better chance of cleaning it.
Weeks later I'm sent an invoice for the excess amount suggesting I hadn't provided any details. Unbelievable! They are a massive company, are lazy and just DON'T CARE about looking after the people that provide them with business.
Will I be renting from AVIS again? There are much better options in Australia. Don't waste your time or money!

Pushy customer service & watch out for hidden costs
I rented a car for 5 days through Avis in Malaga, Western Australia. When I picked up the car, they pushed me 3 or 4 times to pay extra to reduce the excess (an extra $500 or so) and were quite irritated when I refused. When I returned the car, it took several attempts to get a final invoice, to find they had overcharged me by $32. I've queried it, but they claim the fee was correct. I know it's a small amount, but I just want to warn others of their tactics.

Great resolution
As a result of Coronavirus I was required to return my hire car early. Initially I was charged excessively by Avis, this was rectified without fuss after I sent an email requesting a review. All other elements of the hire were seamless and the car was new.

Greedy cash grab over Coronavirus cancellations
Terrible service. We had to cancel our holiday to Perth when the state locked down. I tried to call Avis 2 days before the flight but they were busy. I went onto the website chat function and was told they couldn’t help. They directed me to an email address. I sent an email the day before we were due to pick up the car but got no reply until 3 days later to say sorry for the late reply but they are very busy. They won’t give me a refund because they didn’t get my cancellation in time? Absolute rubbish. They also said they couldn’t refund bec...Read more
ause I had prepaid the bill. But I had to prepay the booking online in order for Avis confirm the booking. When I complained to the company I didn’t even get a reply. Whatever you do, don’t trust this company. I will never use them again.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

AVOID AVIS at all costs -> Dishonest misleading trade practices, inconsistent messages from staff, no customer service
1. Rented a car at Melbourne airport office early Feb 2020
2. Enquired possibility of a slight extension as well as revised rates as unable to do so via website.
3. Told by 2 x staff from customer service call centre that Melbourne airport office will get back to me within a day to provide the revise rates.
4. Called them back to inform no one has rung me back.
5. Was told to just wait for the call, keep the car for as along required and alls well.
6. At the end of the rental was slammed with a massive bill, far exceeding the initial rental rat...Read more

Worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life
I tried to return my car to the Paramatta office this morning. Granted, I arrived probably just before or at 12noon (did not check specific time upon arrival as I did not expect office to be closed already). I then called customer service to try and see where else I could go, but its only Airport office that remains open and another 60 mins drive from this office. The customer service officer had to return in any event
to open in any event for a truck that was also waiting to pick-up cars...and this guy also said he was there before 12 noon.
Officer told me boldly he will not accept my car! Probably worst customer service in years!!

extortion
Unfortunately I have had to return a rental car early as a result of caronavirus flight cancellations. Despite daily email spam from the Avis Ceo "that they understand and will waive charges" I have had my credit card gouged by avis for an extra A$1500.

Beware of AVIS’ flawed system, inconsistent practices and incompetent staff
Beware of AVIS’ flawed system, inconsistent practices and incompetent staff
In August 2022, Avis debited my credit card when some other person rented a car from them. The reason I was given for their mistake, is that the other person had a similar loyalty card number to mine.
Their ‘Procedures’ must have been put in place by amateurs.
No checks and balances to detect obvious errors on the part of AVIS
A few days later, my credit card was debited yet again, this time by one of the ‘Toll’ companies, because AVIS had provided my credit card details to the Toll Company

Misleading and deceptive
I hired a Avis budget vehicle in Cape Town, South Africa. The staff member advised that the car did not include breakdown insurance and to cover this I would need to purchase the premium insurance. This was in fact incorrect. My car hire included breakdown, but she stated it did NOT. Who wants to take the risk in South Africa. As a result I paid an additional $360. Travellers beware of this deceptive and misleading information.

Beware. They charge extra.
I hired a car from Hobart airport late Jan/early Feb.
booked online and was charged what i thought was a reasonable amount. When we picked up the car I opted to reduce the excess ( costing $27 per day). A total of 4 days which came to $108 by my calculations. When I checked my credit card on our return home, they had debited it at the start of the hire ( the day I booked it) and the day we returned it. I rang their customer service and as they were busy took my details and was told they would either call back or email. No contact, so a week la...Read more

Blatant rip off
I hired a car for a day from Avis in Hobart. I could not find a petrol station and they were due to close so I returned it happy to pay a little extra for them to fill up the car.
They charged $5 a litre!! It was $113 for 1/3 tank. Also I had booked a Corolla and got a Commodore so it used more fuel as well.
Total extortion and while I accept there is a cost to them refilling the car, that would be the same regardless of the amount of petrol needed.
Never again, Avis

Sent me a letter chasing up on fuel payment even through I have selected and paid for the prepaid fuel option offered
I have booked an Avis service via AMEX travel agent with payment paid in advance.
On Dec 2022, I have picked up my car from Avis Hobart. Upon the agreement, I have also accepted the prepaid fuel service in addition and paid for $71 in full.
On Feb 2020, I have received an letter requesting for a fuel payment summarized to $177.
I have sent all my evidences to Nasir Khan / Credit Controller who is in charge of my case via emails.
As of today, Nasir is still demanding for the fuel money despite the facts I have provided.
Other than the fuel charge issues, If Avis truly care about customer experiences, please make a note of below:
1. Prepare a comprehensive car condition report before delivering to customer....Read more

Debit Cards
Have used Avis a number of times and the service is usually of a high standard. The cars are new and in excellent condition. All is good, expect when it comes to payment. They do accept debit MasterCard and debit Visa, but the way they process the payment and place a hold on your funds is unacceptable. For example, if the rental agreement is for 3 days and the total cost being $200. At the time of collecting the vehicle, they place a hold on your debit card for : $200( cost of the rental) plus a bond of $400( because it’s a debit card rather t...Read more
han a credit card). In total they place a hold on $600 of your funds. I don’t have a problem with that aspect of the rental. The problem begins when you finish your rental agreement and return the car. Assuming it’s returned in good working order, they will send a request to your bank to release the funds in full, yes in full and then they will charge your card for the cost of the rental on the spot. It takes up to 10 days for the release of your funds to be available in your account. So on a $200 rental agreement, you will have $800 of your money tied up for up to 10 days. Avis blames the banks for the lengthy delay, the banks point the finger back to Avis. What makes no sense, is that despite already having hold of your money at the commencement of the rental agreement they effectively double dip by charging your card again at the end of the rental. It’s now 2020 and money transfer systems are very advanced with instant bank transfers such as osko etc. Avis should have a better payment processing system than it currently has in place. To further high light the problems with their payment processing system. Take a close look at the following example: 1.Rent a car in Sydney for 1 day, cost of rental $100 plus $400 bond. On return of the car the following day, your debit card gets charged an additional $100 and you need to wait up to 10’days for your $500 to be released and available.Similar opinion? Best Experience Ever Avis Hobart
We picked our pre reserved vehicle at the Hobart Airport after flying from Brisbane. The customer service from the counter staff and the pick up/ drop off guys in the rental carpark was excellent. We were greeted with a smile and were given an upgrade to a 4WD at no extra charge. We hired the car for 2 weeks and travelled all over Tasmania. It was a clean vehicle with low klms and drove really well. The cost was way below the competitors and good value for the money. There were no surprises at drop off and it was a very easy process. We would definitely recommend Avis at Hobart Airport

Awful experience with refund issue post hire
Made a booking with AVIS and required a refund due to a system error their end. Have made numerous calls to their reservations call centre post hire to try and sort it out and been hung up on four time. You are moved around between their reservations departments and no one can sort it out. very frustrating for what should be a simple process. will never hire a care from them again as have been treated very poorly by their processes.

Very disappointing customer service
Picked up a car couple of weeks ago at Maroochydore Airport. Once we drove out we noticed the fuel tank had not been refilled. We called and Avis told us we would be re reimbursed once the car had been returned. Prior to drop off we refilled the tank as required. When dropping the key off we again mentioned the fuel issue. Allegedly the person at the counter made a note of this on the computer. He assured us we would be reimbursed shortly. To date, after numerous phone calls, and constantly given the run around, we still have not been reimburse...Read more
d. We keep getting put through to an overseas call centre where they keep giving us the same old standard corporate lines and simply have no idea what we are on about. They refuse to put us through to an Avis rep here in Australia and on several occasions have not got back to us after saying they would. I am so sick and tired of paying for a service and not receiving the service we paid for. We hire cars frequently and will NOT use Avis again. Such poor customer service.Similar opinion? Charged more than double!
Quoted $266 charged $735.
Customer service at Sydney Airport was friendly but I was given me the paperwork for a different car.
Call centre was not very helpful after being on hold for almost an hour to discuss charges.
Was charged again upon returning the vehicle.
Not impressed, would not recommend.

This booking was cancelled due to Covid 19 and no flights available to the UK to take up the car hire . A months notice was given.I have enquired 5 times regards refund and no response other than speak to your travel agent. No agent was involved - booked on Avis website and paid immediately via credit card.
Appreciate a tough time for all business around the world . I appreciate the due refund asap . Every other hotel/airline that was involved in this trip has responded positively and had done the right thing within a reasonable amount of time .
Please Avis do the same .

Anyone been in an accident with an Avis hire car when the hire car crashed into my car and did substantial damage to te rear end but unfortunately I am not insured so I am trying to get Avis to pay for my car as the accident was not my fault ( rear ended)
Avis claim I must chase up the driver and until he pays his excess I will not have my car repaired. Yes the man driving the car is no longer answering calls or emails...
any advice is much appreciated

this becomes police matter, i hope you reported acident to police, they can find the driver, most probably issue his ticket, get police report number for insurance claim. if nothing works, report to consumer affairs, if nothing work, you may have to take AVIS to QCAT, only take $60-70 but bit of pain.

Is the service still same now, 2016?

Was asked at Melbourne Airport to put in 2 dollars ($1.30/l) more fuel as there was an discussion of the defnition of a full tank?
It isnt AVIS fault it is the 'crew' that handles the cars for all renters.
