I was extremely grateful for the very prompt responses Pamela gave to all of my questions. This led to a very smooth and easy refinancing process. She is the ultimate processional and extremely courteous. My highest recommendation. I am very glad that I have made the switch. I am very pleased by BA's ethical values and the option of an offset account for my mortgage. Great product.

I was really keen to support a bank that is ethical but there are some services that are lacking, making it a difficult transition.
First there is no cheque account meaning my partner and I can't have a joint account transaction on the same card as our personal accounts.
Secondly the app is lacking compared to what the ING app can do. There's a daily limit of $2000 and trying to increase that limit requires calling customer service, downloading and manually setting up an authenticator app (that I can't even do via the app) and waiting days for ...

We have just moved our home loan to Bank Australia and have found Sonya Willis - Lending, fantastic. Sonya has provided step by step guidance through the whole lending process and has kept us informed on progress. I recently opened a Business bank account with Bank of Australia because their social consciousness values appeared to be in alignment with my own. For starters, I would recommend anyone thinking about signing up with them to first go visit their public FB page and have a read of the issues their customers have been experiencing for the past several months, which include frequent outages during business hours during which customers were unable to complete any financial transactions eg. not being able to pay for things, check their balance, move or access funds. In my 30 years of banking, I have only experienced that once with a financial institution yet according to their FB page, this has happened multiple times in the last few months. I unfortunately did not think to check there before signing up. Secondly, I attempted to set up my account by phone but after being on hold for quite a while, I decided to just open an account online. That was a red flag that I chose to ignore. Third, while it was wonderfully easy to set up two accounts and then move funds into them (no surprise there - giving people money tends to be easy in most businesses), I couldn’t find any option to sign up for the travel rewards Visa card, which was another major draw card of this bank. Then I saw they presented my name in a way that was inconsistent with every other bank or account or identification that I have. This needed to be resolved ASAP. I tried to call them again but was again on hold for so long that I gave up. I emailed them about both the name change and the Visa card. I received a curt email back informing me that,

After decades as a customer of 2 of the big 4 banks, I moved to Bank Australia so my savings would no longer be used to fund expansionary fossil fuel projects and live animal exports. The online setup was smooth and easy, and the phone support for setting up a joint account was great. The online banking platform is intuitive and easy to use.

We decided to organise our mortgage with Bank Australia and move across all our accounts. I dealt with Hayley in their lending area who was excellent. Always helpful and informative. I signed up for BA and transferred my salary to go into it. Here is my story on why you should go elsewhere. The first signs of trouble were that the security by default is a text message for security, this is a terrible form of two factor authentication as anyone who has access to your number either by sim-swapping (calling Telstra pretending to be you) or just looking at the message pop up on your phone. Bank Australia like to be difficult, they opt to only support the worst reviewed 2FA app in the Google store, the symantec VIP app. I let this gripe pass as they probably don't have very good security professionals working for them and outsource it to 3rd parties that have agendas hence the lack of choice. So with that aside, I tried to use my bank account. So at first I did a bit of crypto trading and suddenly my bank account is frozen. That's right, with $100 transaction to coinbase I have to call the bank and tell them that I'm a real person, they said it's a new account so the security system isn't "trained yet". The problem with this is how does it know who i am if I'm new? How about just watching how I use my account first before making decision to block me? It's pre-school level security and really inconvenient. With that out of the way, i regrettably let is slide since i resolved it. Then, rent was due. I was busy with life and only remembered the night that the rest was due. I went online and paid and ."Warning, this is over your limit". How can my rent be over my limit? Turns out $2k is the limit and my rent is $2,086 for the household which I pay for the we use splitwise to make it up. So search to the end of the earth on Google and it turns out I have to CALL BANK AUSTRALIA BETWEEN 8am-5pm to increase my limit. Absolute non-sense. So i set a reminder to call them in the morning. I call at 8am to get on top of it so my landlord doesn't warn me. I explain that i need an increase and because I think $2k is ridiculous I tell them to no have a limit. They refuse and it makes me believe that this bank is a joke because they don't even want to give what the customer wants. I say $10k and they talk me down to $5k. It's pathetic... do they have liquidity issues? Are they scared that if there are higher limits for people to transfer that their liability is too high for insurance? They suck either way, it's my money. So I agree on $5k and just as the conversation ends she says and it will be 24 hours until this is sorted as we need manager approval. MANAGER APPROVAL? like what someone has to sit there and look at me and decide to allow me to send $5k of my own money and it takes a day to do this? Is this the 1920's during the great depression? What on earth is wrong with this bank? Anyway the last straw was she said and once approved you need the symantec VIP app to use 2FA. with that..... I was done. Firstly I'd like to congratulate Bank Australia for giving us the option of banking with an enviromentally responsible institutions.
My experience with Bank Australia online is positive, as a security concious customer I particularly appreciate the Symantec VIP app compatibility as I feel this makes online banking a lot safer against phone number porting and SIM scams.
I am however very critical of the the bank charging $0.25 fee for SMS alerts.
I previously banked with Westpac and I received a free instant notification whenever funds were transferred out of my account, I see this as an important security feature and should not attract a fee!

You can turn SMS alerts off and use push notifications (for free) via your Bank Australia app. In the menu of your app, go to "Cards", select the card you'd like to have notifications for, click "Card notifications" and there's a list of transaction types you can turn on push notifications for.Thank you for pointing that out, I primarily do my banking on a PC and I didn't find that option there but I'll most certainly enable it via the mobile app.
