It does not matter what the cooling capacity is, the Bonaire unit is a piece of junk - do not buy it. The suppliers and installers are hopeless.
Buy a Breezair instead, they are way, way, better.

The unit is about 10 years old. Had a new motor fitted about a year ago. Unit runs quite ok for about an hour and then shuts itself down although controller indicates that it's running. Fan speed on max (not boost) or one down from max. Seems to be going out on overload or overtem. Weather has been hot - about 35 deg. but that's what it's for isn't it. Does anybody know lightly cause. Many thanks, Peter.

The cause is the manufacturer.

Did you even read my review?
Bonaire are useless and Climate Technologies should not even be considered.
Don’t buy Bonaire, you would be throwing your money down the drain.

Thanks. Other reviews also bad so now looking at Braemar products or a Fujitsu split system unit just for the main bedroom.

Of course it’s not working, it is a Bonaire. As per my review comments, ours never worked and Climate Technologies did not fix it.

Bonaire evap coolers are garbage. They continually break down during warranty and after. And the company disowns you after the warranty has lapsed and does not take into account the numerous umpteen faults you had. If this was the US it would be branded a lemon and you'd get compensated. That my personal opinion talking from first hand experience.
Re the Braemar I cannot comment as have never owned one. Good Luck.

Hi Bradwin. I've taken a look at both units online. The Braemar unit has 2 more years warranty but I cant see much diff. At the end of the day all they are is a fan bolted to a motor with cooling pads and a water pump.Either way you should be ok but it's the SERVICE (or lack of) that will be the real diff if something does go wrong.

I don't know a lot about the units but I replaced my old Breezair which lasted over 10-years and didn't even need replacing, it just needed a new power board which would have cost about $500 to fix, so I found out after. I got scammed by an air-cond company that told me it needed to be replaced. The Bonaire unit I now have is a bit cheap and nasty compared to the quality of Breezair. I would have put Breezair in 100% but they are a lot more expensive so naturally I chose the cheaper option.
Go for the Breezair for sure, that is my advice.

The fan keeps falling off the motor pin. Why? Can I put something under the fan to stop it spinning off.
Motor & fan are in a downwards position.
Pulbrook air who installed it are no longer in business.
Help. Item's not worn out, costs $290 + parts for Bonaire to come and fix.
Not necessary. Can see what the problem is, how to fix it?

I'd get it repaired by a pro. The pin might be the problem, but something else might be causing the pin to come out. Doesn't have to be Bonaire who fix it. Just a qualified electrical repair person. It's a big risk if you stuff it up.

Hi Debbid.... did you fix your fan problem. We are currently having the same problem fan keeps falling off. Where did you source the fan from? Cheers jodie

Hi, the bit that holds the fan on is called a collet, and they will wear out after a couple of years. Eventually, they will be unable to hold the fan onto the motor shaft and the fan will fall down into the duct. It's a $30 part from most air-con service/installers and is much easier to replace every 3-4 years before they fail.

The same goes for the capacitor that runs the motor. Ours failed after about 8-9 years, but when it did, it filled the house with an awful smell. Another $8 part that can be changed in a few minutes by someone confident/qualified to work on mains voltage.

how many hours running before the unit will dump the water and refresh with new?

Hi Pete, I'm new to this site & you've probably got tired of waiting for a reply. My unit was originally set for an 8 hour dump cycle, but after a recent service from Thermalec (I'll never use Climate Technologies again after a bad experience) it is now set to 4 hours on their recommendation. I hope this helps - Steve.
