Excellent Coffee Very Reliable
I've owned this coffee machine for 2 years and would easily rate it 5 stars. The machines performed faultlessly every day (for 2 years) plus the quality of milk and coffee is excellent.
The hardest part of owning this is the setup of the coffee grind, get that right and your ready to go.
The machines easy to clean and contains a grinder saving valuable bench space.
5 out of 5 from me.

EASY and WORTH IT
For the price you pay, it's worth it!
Needs a few tries before you get the coffee right.
Easy to clean
Great for frothing (was on a similar machine from Sunbeam previously which was terrible!)
Simple instructions (train the kid!)
Compact for small kitchens and a single grouphead
Will defo stick to Breville in the future

Good mid-range manual machine that makes excellent coffee. Very happy with it.
My old cheapie Sunbeam machine finally died this morning after about 6 years of reliable service. After a bit of research I decided to give this one a try. It's very similar to others that are half the price except for a couple of important features - build quality & the pre-infusion feature. Now to be honest I originally thought the pre-infusion thing was a bit of a gimmick, but the salesperson was quite insistent that it makes a big difference to the taste of the coffee. Turns out he was right - using exactly the same coffee from the same...Read more
batch with this machine compared to my old one was like chalk and cheese. The very first coffee I made was perfect - every bit as nice as I could buy in any coffee shop and much nicer than what the old machine ever produced. I made a coffee for my mother in law a bit later on (who works in a cafe) and she was of the same opinion. So far I'm impressed and very happy with my purchase. It was more than I was planning to spend, as I was only intending to buy another very basic machine as I only make coffee at home on the weekends, but I'm glad I spent the extra. It was wort it.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great Machine for the price
Graet machine, great coffee. I had to give it away as I moved and it would no longert fit in my small kitchen. Makes better coffee than Nespresso and no problems with it ever. Easy to clean. Coffee tastes better than any coffee shop! Still going after 5 years. Highly recommended and quite compact. The more bells and wistles the more complicated. Saeco basic machines are also excellent.

Espresso temperature is really down
Although i love this the Breville Duo-Temp Pro machine, but I am very disappointed about my espresso temperature, it's not hot at all, it's not true that the espresso temperature will be around 200F as it's written in the breville packaging, I am really disappointed about this specific point. Breville customer service, could you please explain me why you have written that the espresso will be at 93 CELSIUS.

Appalling customer service and temperamental machine
My partner and i have had our machine for almost 2 weeks and still haven't been successful with a good flow, crema nor tasting coffee. Despite every combination of tamper weight and grind size we have been left scratching our heads. We called customer service today who were condescending and unhelpful, after speaking with two advisers who asked the same questions - grind size, beans freshness, store bought or not, tamper weight, etc we were left with no assistance as to what could be the issue.
We have fresh non store bought beans, we have ...Read more
tried every grind size from fine to heavy, we have used all four different baskets, we have tampered hard, medium soft, razored, smoothed, tapped. we have literally tried everything. I found it pretty frustrating talking to the customer service department who insisted i was giving them the wrong product code since mine did not come with a Breville grinder. They offered no actual help with the machine, only pointed out obvious things that once we had established could not be the issue they had nothing left to say, how is it helpful? why sell a machine and not have the right support to help the consumer use the product? I called the head office and asked if i could come in with my machine for a tutorial, which is apparently not possible. So what are we to do now with a machine that simply does not give us what we want let alone what we paid for?? Im sure it could be an excellent machine if the support was there to get the customer through the teething stages. Such a shame as we bought our machine based on reviews here.Similar opinion? Great Coffee
This is our second Breville coffee machine and we are more than happy with it. It couldnt be easier to use and clean and we use it everyday. We have a much fancier unit at my workplace and the fact is it doesnt get used as much due to having too many steps to make coffee and then clean machine. We are very pleased with this machine and would highly recommend it.

No crema and faulty parts?? - UPDATE!
UPDATE:
So it appears the 1 cup dual wall filter is utterly useless. Throw it in the bin. I can only conclude that the brevilles pump just cant cope with it and a small grind. It over extracts badly with pre-ground and flow is horrendous even with no coffee!! Use the 2 cup dual wall filter and tamp very lightly just to level. You should get good crema and your puck will come out perfect not soupy. Watch all the Breville demos not one person uses 1 cup filter!!
You should never tamp a pressurised filter it will always over extract - thanks y...Read more
outube for that one. Some pressurised only machines like my Saeco appear to have bumped up the pressure in group head to ensure it gives good flow even if you tamp it hard. If you tamp a pressurised filter on this machine you will get extremely bad flow and horrible over extracted coffee - bitter fine and sour if coarse. Just practicing tweaking the milk wand to texture properly its easy to get foam but not textured micro foam right through the milk. Thats for me to practice though. I think this machine is far better for using single walled filters/dialing in grind and tamp because the group head spray pattern more closely resembles a commercial machine then a pressurised only one like my Saeco. Good but not perfect...
BECAUSE the Breville Duo-Temp Pro espresso machine has an auto-off function after about 15 minutes of inactivity, and most domestic users make coffee only every few hours, most users are always making coffee on a cold machine. This means that running hot water through the brew-head and into a cup is needed to get filter and cup up to temperature, so the drip-tray fills up much quicker than on machines with a permanently-powered hot-plate for keeping cups warm. PLUS, the machine has a temperature sensor, so any water in the steam wand pipes pu...Read more
rges into the drip-tray if using the brew-head after using the wand, to remove hot water that might burn the brew. And using the steam wand before brewing is normal for making any type of coffee with milk – this also increases the waste water in the drip-tray. I find that 2-3 cups is maximum before the drip-tray must be emptied, so it is woefully inadequate in size. THEN, because the warming-plate takes about 15 minutes to come up to temperature and warm cups, it is completely pointless, since that is when it is due to turn off again and go cold! LASTLY, although the water-tank is a much better design than on the ES-800 series, with a tightly fitting lid, it is at the back of the machine – usually against a wall – so very hard to see for checking water levels. The machine makes very nice espresso, but these design ‘features’ make it very frustrating to use.3 comments

ly left the old machine turned on all day, every day, so that cups and filters were always warm. On the Duo-Temp Pro I had to start running hot water through the brew-head and into the cup to warm them up, which resulted in the drip-tray filling up quickly and the water tank emptying quickly... Then I got my first electrickery bill! I had a sudden change of heart – the bill was $50 less than all previous quarters, so the auto-off function was saving me substantial amounts of hard-earned. I now have a soup ramekin sitting alongside the coffee machine, half-full of water. I turn on the machine and put the ramekin in the microwave for one minute, which is enough time to measure and grind the coffee beans. Dunk the whole group handle – with filter – in the hot water to heat it up then, while I am filling the hot filter with grounds, pour some hot water in the cup to warm that up, too. Empty the hot water back into the ramekin – NOT the drip-tray – ready for the next time I want to make coffee, and turn the Duo-Temp Pro off as soon as I have finished... It now takes me one minute longer to make coffee than it used to, but I figure I can accept that – the little glow I get in the hip pocket area makes it tolerable!Similar opinion? Not off to a good start....let-down
I previously had a Breville "base-level" espresso maker what-ever it's called. Simple as you can get and ancient; but it did the job, producing a nice steady flow of crema until it died the other day.
So, went out and bought this one. Unfortunately after a number of days experimenting I've yet to get a decent flow; the flow splutters, drips and pours inconsistently, producing a frothy patchy result. Here's what it should look like as it pours, but it doesn't look anything like it in my case;

Hi Ines - can you please contact customer service and discuss this issue with one of our coffee specialists - 1300 139 798. Thanks, the Breville team
I did, and response wasn't that helpful; "it's the freshness of your beans and that's all we can offer to assist you over the phone. Alternatively you can return it for another unit if still under warranty."

I find this result contradictory; my previous Breville unit had a great flow (like warm honey), irrespective of the age of the bean, pre-ground or not. To me, this response feels like a fob-off. From my perspective I've wasted $360 for a device that makes coffee no better than a plunger. Save your money. Now, how do I remove the last remaining Star...---------------------------

Excellent for the Price
Excellent machine for the price. Just bought one of these for weekend trips into the West NSW where good coffee is hard to find. A year ago I bought a capsule machine but they are useless. We really enjoy good coffee.
I thought I had made a mistake as I struggled to get a decent coffee out of the Breville. I then spent an hour on it and found:
1, the small basket does the best job for a large coffee
2. The grind needs to be quite large compared to my normal machine.
I now get coffee almost as good as my $2000 HX machine. The steam wan...Read more
d is powerful and makes great micro-foam for a machine this size. The only downside is, I would love it NOT to switch off after 15 mins. Is this adjustable??? All in all, I cannot imagine a better machine for what we want, light, easy to carry and produces great coffee where ever we are.2 comments

Hi Ardy01 - thanks for your comments. Regarding your question about standby mode - this is not adjustable. The Breville team
Thanks for the reply. The lack of adjustment is a pity. Maybe later builds might have a 1 hour cut off and that would be fine.

Excellent machine!
Love this machine! Have no trouble with getting fantastic brews with plenty of crema. I also love the auto shut down - it only takes minimal time to restart. With my old, cheaper, (other brand) machine, it would often remain on all day as I forgot about it! To people with negative reviews I would suggest investing in quality beans, grind as you use and read the instructions.

Can't hold pressure! Takes forever to make a coffee
The Steam wand takes forever to heat up and very difficult to clean.
It can't handle pressure at all when making a shot. It builds up then spits steam out around the handle shooting coffee grounds into your cup. Tastes terrible even with freshly ground beans. Would definitely not recommend!

Superb and simple: this is the one to get!
Came down in the end, to Delonghi v Breville.
The positive reviews for Breville were more consistent across their range.
This model is simple to use with little gadgetry to go wrong and gives you complete control over your coffee making because it doesn't have all the bells and whistles which you dont need anyway. The price is also right....you dont need to spend more. It can take a full sized mug which some other brands cant fit.
I'm a latte/cappucino type and the frothing works well.
Choose good quality beans (try some different brands to find one you like or combine a couple and make your own blend) and grind each cup fresh and you cant go wrong.
Tastes like a good barista made coffee every time.

Crema? No problem!
Using the single wall filter, not sure why so many posters had problems getting crema. I get a good amount too to my surprise. I always use freshly roasted beans and grind them fresh. Grinder to machine and start immediately. Let it run till just before it start to blonde. I don't use timer or weight my shots. I follow the color of the flow itself.

I absolutely love this machine
I own a coffee shop and have wanted a quality home espresso machine for years. I am extremely happy with my cappuccino. Easy to use and makes delicious espresso! Of course I grind my fresh roasted coffee at work, so it's an even fibe grind. I'd definitely recommend this machine. Better price than the small commercial ones I was looking into.

Hi there. A problem others have mentioned above, but with no answer that I can see... the water stops pumping through the coffee at anywhere from 20 to 30 seconds. I thought this was a manual machine? It's not such a problem making a single shot - that's roughly the time required. But for a double, it should pour for longer right? Why is the auto cut-off?

Hi
I have not experienced this problem at all !
Machine is completely manual, I make sure out of habit that I fill the tank every time I turn on the machine !
I make up to 6 cups a day and multiple cups all the time for no issues at all.
This is a very capable machine in my opinion.
I must add that I use the whole (double) shot for a single cup as I like a strong cup. I do not put 2 cups under filter at once!

What beans do you use

We've tried Bean'd, Illy, Industrie, Republica Coffee and Aldi's Lazzio brand. Bean'd has probably given us the best results.
