Now I'm addicted! This machine works well.
I am happy with the taste of my coffee. It is easy to use. It is easy to clean.
I'm getting good crema, frothing has taken a bit of practice but I'm managing to pull off a few love hearts and something not quite resembling a rosetta.
Changing from extracting to steaming doesn't take too long, though I do wish it waiting a few seconds longer before doing the auto purge.
Portafilter and filters seem like great quality. I use the single wall with relatively fresh beans, and it works a treat. I bought the BEP810 package that came with th...Read more
e BCG450 Precision Grinder, and find it works great. I use the grinder on about setting 12, use the single wall, double filter with about 16 grams of coffee. About 220 ml of milk, froth with whirlpool between 10 and 30 degrees, then heating without frothing from 30 to 60 degrees.1 comment

Cafe quality
Had a Breville Café Roma for three years and thought that was OK. Bought my BES810 a couple of months ago for $328 and wished I had bought it sooner. I use quality freshly roasted and ground beans and use the double wall filter.
My Lattes are café quality every time.
I did try the single wall filter and couldn't get much crema like a few other posters.
So far I cannot fault the machine. Very happy.

no crema!
The same issue applies for me - no crema. My crappy old delongi is better. Otherwise the machine is good but really, if it cannot produce a good shot of coffee then the rest doesn't count for much does it. Disappointed with the product. I have a breville grinder and other kitchen gear, so was hoping this one would fit in with the family stable but it seems i will have to shop elsewhere.

o use the dual wall filter basket in the portafilter for extracting coffee. If you are using coffee from a cafe it is better to try the single wall filter basket first. You can contact us on 1300 139 798 to speak with a coffee specialist to discuss further. Thanks Breville, I now have crema by using double wall filter basket. Your instructions clearly say to use the single wall filter if grinding your own beans so I think you need to review your instruction material.

Hi Chris, I'd recommend you invest in some quality, freshly roasted coffee with a "roasted on" date on the bag, then follow our instructions, you'll be surprised at the difference, better than most Cafes you've ever been to. ^PM

Great machine
This machine is outstanding value for money. I recently purchased one bundled with the BCG400 grinder, (however I already had a BCG820 Grinder, so used the new one for decaf).
The machine has been pared down by Breville removing features to market it at a lower price, but the features and engineering that remain (low pressure pre infusion, PID temperature control, auto purge after steam/hot water) make it a very capable and useful machine.
In some ways removing features have endowed it with an endearing simplicity - I find having the capabi...Read more

Very good machine
I upgraded from a Café roma which I had been using for about three years but sadly died. Having read reviews I decided to look for this one or the older 800ES. I managed to get this one for around $300.
Build quality: excellent. I'm actually surprised how well it is built. Everything feels very premium. Even the milk jug feels premium.
Cleaning: Easily cleaned. Needs to be done every three to four days as the water tray is on the smaller side.
Design: Pretty compact for what it is. The middle diel is purely decretive, it may as well have be...Read more

There is no crema!
My old Sunbeam Café Crema II couldn't function anymore so we decided to get a new Breville BES810 DUO Temp. The first cup of coffee was so disappointing with no crema at all so I looked up the internet and Youtube to check whether I had correctly following instructions. There seems I had done correctly but the coffee I made are still very disappointing with very little crema and is probably worse than the cheap Sunbeam Café Crema II! I am going to return it and exchange for one that can make good coffee.

Where's the Crema?
The Duo-Temp Pro is a nice looking machine however the coffee it produces is poor. It's necessary to use an ultra fine grind (can't use supermarket pre-ground coffee) and only then will it produce a minimal amount of crema with the two cup filter. Forget about trying to get a good crema with the single cup filter as it's near impossible.
My very old and lower spec Breville Café Roma makes a better coffee than what this machine does...this is disappointing. I will be looking for a different machine to replace the Duo-Temp Pro.

Cheap and cheerful espresso machine for the home brewer!
I bought this machine 5 months ago to replace a previous Breville that had reached the end of its run. Absolutely love using it. I have been making coffee at home for almost 3 years now and the mid-range breville machines have never let me down. I have tried other brands like Delonghi and Sunbeam over the years, and I always come back to Breville.
This BES810 extracts the coffee at a good temperature. The espresso does not come out piping hot and tasting burnt (like other machines I have tried) and the stainless steel portafilter and basket...Read more
s are easy to use and clean. Although this machine does not let you customise settings for water temperature and extraction pressure like other machines i've tried, it is just a matter of adjusting your grind and tamping to get a good crema. So it is something you can make-do with. I always grind my own beans, so the single walled baskets that come with the machine are perfect (the previous machine I had only came with double walled ones, so it took a while with experimenting with grind/tamping to get it right). What always brings me back to Breville though is the way their machines are able to steam milk. Other brands always have steam that is too weak, so no matter how I try to heat up the milk, I always end up with dish washing liquid sized froth and milk that has become way too hot. With the BES810 (and my prev Breville for that matter), the steam pressure is spot on so that if you do it right, you will always get milk that is so finely textured and at the right temperature. It might have been from years of being used to the Breville machines, but if I compare it to the Delonghi Sculptura that I briefly had before the BES810 for example, that machine would either give me piping hot bubbly milk or luke-warm milk with some froth. There are some negatives I could point out though. Having the water tank at the back with no visible water level from the front of the machine does scare me sometimes. There have been instances where the water ran out without me knowing and the machine runs dry for a second before I quickly stop the machine to refill it. I might still be used to my old machine where the water tank had a lit level indicator in front of you so you could easily tell before making a cup of coffee how much water was left. I find it an occasional downfall that I have to peer around the side of the machine to the back to try and read the water level in the tank. If its not as bright in the kitchen, this is quite hard since the plastic is dark and water line almost blends in. The small capacity of the drip tray is also something I could point out. Again this is in comparison to my previous machine. It just means I have to empty it out way more often, maybe after 2 cups? And when it purges, irrespective of whether the tray is full or not, somehow water splashes out of the tray under the machine and wets everything at the back including the stuff inside the tool storage tray.Similar opinion? Very good machine, makes beautiful coffee
I got this machine 2 months ago and am very happy with it so far. It is small but sturdy and fits on my kitchen bench nicely. All the parts are heavy duty and the chrome finish looks modern and professional. It comes with a few accessories including 2 filter baskets, a trimming tool and a stainless steel milk jug, there is also a little storage compartment under the machine which is handy. The water tank holds 1.8L so you could probably make 4-5 large cappuccinos before needing to refill the tank. Coffee is extracted evenly and leaves a very ni...Read more

ppuccino with good 2cm+ crema. I think in order to get the right cup of coffee it all comes down to grind and tamp, don't bother using pre-ground coffee or anything cheap and nasty from the shop, this machine is designed to work with a good grinder and good quality beans. Took me a few failed attempts in the beginning to get the right cup because I was buying pre ground, the breville burr grinder really compliments this machine, I use it on the turkish setting for a stronger flavour.Similar opinion? Great machine
After my trusty Breville died, I decided to try my daughter's brand of coffee machine and went for a Delonghi Scultura. Well! I couldn't fit any of my cups under the thing, when I switched it on, it switched itself off without warning after about 20 seconds, and it frothed milk like one of those machines in a petrol station. Took it back, and swapped it for another Breville - the BES810. What a difference - first there are quite a few extras, that I hadn't received with my previous Breville, nor with the Delonghi. Second, the milk creams a...Read more

My duo temp pro makes luke warm espresso....how can I make it hotter?

Hi there. A problem others have mentioned above, but with no answer that I can see... the water stops pumping through the coffee at anywhere from 20 to 30 seconds. I thought this was a manual machine? It's not such a problem making a single shot - that's roughly the time required. But for a double, it should pour for longer right? Why is the auto cut-off?

Hi
I have not experienced this problem at all !
Machine is completely manual, I make sure out of habit that I fill the tank every time I turn on the machine !
I make up to 6 cups a day and multiple cups all the time for no issues at all.
This is a very capable machine in my opinion.
I must add that I use the whole (double) shot for a single cup as I like a strong cup. I do not put 2 cups under filter at once!

We've tried Bean'd, Illy, Industrie, Republica Coffee and Aldi's Lazzio brand. Bean'd has probably given us the best results.
