Infuser BES840CRN (Cranberry)

Hi, i've had our infuser for about 3years now and love it. We clean it fairly regularly (when prompted) but do live in a hard water area. In the last week the steam wand has stopped producing steam. When i turn the dial to steam milk, the steam actually comes out of the espresso and nothing comes out of the steam wand. I suspect there is a blockage somewhere. Any ideas? Thanks, i need coffee!!!

Hi I've had my machine since August 2013 and have had a few issues periodically with it. I've had to replace the solenoids twice over that time, and now if I turn it on at the wall, the pump goes all the time and water comes out from underneath the machine onto the bench and won't stop. While it makes really nice coffee, I am the only one in our house that uses it so it doesn't get heaps of use, but I must admit to being a little disappointed that for the price of it, it hasn't lasted longer. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why it's suddenly leaking? I did clean it with white vinegar and water as per the cleaning instructions last week. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Dawn.

If you can't service it yourself, you really need to have it serviced. "Pump goes on all the time when the machine is on" does not sound good. Cleaning won't help a leak. Most important is to find out where the leak is coming from. I'm not intimately familiar with your model, but I believe a normal BES840 should have a clear plastic nozzle on the right side at the very bottom, that ejects water after a steam, etc. It's an overpressure valve. If the drip tray is not fully inserted, or missing, then of course water will leak onto the counter the machine is on. Doubt thats the source of your leaks, but it doesn't hurt to check.

I have had my machine for just under a yr, with no problems... Til this mornin! When i made my cup, no creama! I did it again, this time watching the pressure gage, and I saw that the pressure gage didn't move into esspresso range at all!! Turned it off etc tried again... Same thing! Can I do something to help this or do I have to get it repaired???

Well firstly I am very new to espresso machines.
Firstly did you change coffee beans?
Did the extracted coffee take about 25 seconds to finish coming out (I have read many places that the extraction process should take 25-30 seconds and that is using a 2 cup filter basket)?
If the extraction process is taking a while it could be a faulty pressure gauge. The speed at which the extracted coffee comes out is a good indicator of the pressure, faster extraction speed will not get a good pressure.
If the extraction speed is fast then the pressure will be low so you could try an finer grind setting. 1 is the finest. Another test I have read is to over dose the filter cup (have the top of the grond coffee after heavy tamping almost to the top of the filter basket instead of about5mm down from the top.
I guess you are using about the same pressure when tamping.

Try descaling the unit.

Hi I've had my machine for 1 year and 8 months and now all of a sudden it's like the Timmer has stopped working. The shot just keeps going and fills a whole cup up and the drip tray. I've tried programming and resetting to the original settings and also programming it manually and either have worked. Can anyone help?

You could try asking the Breville help line, they did try to help me over the phone and through this forum. My machine was under warranty at the time but the issues with the machine were never fixed or machine replaced. They did try to help out of the warranty period so give it a try. Good luck.

I know I had trouble when I changed the grind. I changed brands of beans and made the grind finer. I also wasn't compacting the coffee enough. With too loose a grind or the coffee not compacted enough I got nearly a full cup of brewed coffee which tasted terrible. Once I changed the grind and pressed harder when preparing the grounds for brewing, the brewing process returned to normal.
