Disapointed
Our pup was diagnosed with renal failure, after an uphill battle for 5 months (our pup was given 2 days to live) BUPA will not pay my vets consultation fee's as there is a annual sub limit on consultation fee's. How do you get treatment and care with out a vet? Had ultrasounds done which they covered but not the consultation to discuss the results.
They have processed all other invoices and claims yet are now stopping processing the consultation fee's. I am so concerned for the next year, knowing I have a sick pup but will be out of pocket for his vet to treat him.

Erin, I have had a call with Bupa and the response I got was that is the annual sub limit. I am not sure how you treat illnesses with out the aid of a vet. Yet BUPA is not prepared to pay for the vet!... Read more
There was no solution presented by BUPA just told that's what it is. Disgraceful really that they claim to care yet won't pay for the one person that is critical in treating the pet. Up until now I had recommended many people to BUPA... Not now

switch to other insurance
I got my insurance on bupa so I decided to use Bupa for my cat. Couple months ago, my cat vomited suddenly and we took her to the vet ASAP, the veterinarian said it would cost over 700 dollars, I only got reimbursement around 280 dollars.
Today, I can't believe I just got reimbursement for 0.96 dollar. FYI, It was for two consultations and couple medicines.

Many thanks, ErinHi, I didn't see the message and I contacted Bupa for cancelling the insurance. It's so unbelievable that they even got my pet's name wrong while I provided the right policy number!
I don't know how to send private message, but I can tell you the policy number is 0448923.

Complete waste of money go elsewhere!
Never claimed until the 2nd year of policy. My 3 year old dog had to have a lump removed urgently suspecting it was cancer - thankfully it was benign. Didn't have the money but thought we'd be ok for a good part of it with 80% cover with an excess. Did the calcs using the 'Product disclosure statement ' but BUPA telling us the way they 'actually' calculate it we only get $300 back (out of almost $1000) - essentially we are paying the excess twice by their calc. Bupa will try ANYTHING to get out of paying. The PDS is vague and they use it to tri...Read more
ck you and get out of paying. Their (overseas) customer service staff are extremely uninterested, unsympathetic and patronising. They avoid communication with you until claim is processed in hopes you will just accept it & go away. Promised a call back the next day nobody called until nearly a week later. Complete opposite of 'transparency' in every aspect. The app is a waste of time as it is vague too.1 comment

Pet insurance
Bupa advertise a card for petstock online when you sign up with them. After 4 months I'm still waiting. I called several times and the answer is always the same. Nothing helpful, they always promise give me a call back and they never do. If the claims are going to be the same i better move to another pet insurance.

Awful company, tries anything to get out of paying for a claim.
I blame myself as the warning signs were there from the start. Despite being covered from as soon as we bought our puppies from their breeders, Bupa determined that giarda (an intestinal parasitic infection) was a pre-existing condition that they would not honor neither the veterinary consultation nor the medication for our dogs, despite being covered specifically for parasitic infections and consultation fees.
Further attempts to claim consultation fees have also been refused, with phone calls querying in what circumstance would Bupa actually pay out a consultation fee claim being met with confusion and an inability to answer.
We're in the process of changing Pet insurers now, stay away if at all possible!

Only tried to claim once and they got out of paying
We switched from a previous insurer when our dog was four and I completed the forms on my mobile. Our dog ruptured his ACL about five months and $3,000 later and they advised they wouldn't pay as it was within the waiting period and we hadn't completed a cruciate ligament waiver, however we never received one/knew it existed. We were told it would have come up when the forms were completed, but it didn't on the mobile site. They also said it was in the email my husband received with the policy details, but he never got the email. They could giv...Read more
e us the date it was sent, but their IT was unable to ever locate the email in question. When our dog ruptured his other ACL two months later, I thought it would be covered since it was past the waiting period, but they classed it as a pre-existing condition and wouldn't pay again. I'll never forgive them for thinking I was going to have to put my dog down because I couldn't afford the second surgery (thankfully we found vetpay to pay it off). When I called them the second time and they advised the claim would be rejected, I was told a manager would call me back. That was a year ago and the call never came.1 comment

Stay away
Stay away from bupa pet insurance. I submitted a claim together with my Pets clinical history. Now they are telling me that they can't process my claim as i have not provided them with the full clinical history. When i called to advise them that they did infact have the full clinical history they started asking me a series of question. They asked me 3 times to provide them with the exact date I acquired my pet nearly 2.5 years ago. They asked me a numerous amount of time if I had ever taken my dog to another vet.

looking for a way not to pay. When this is all over i will report Bupa pet insurance to the regulator ASIC, for their failure to act in good faith in accordance with section 12&13 of the ICA 1984. If anybody is experiencing a similar issue with BUPA Pet Insurance, I urge you to also contact ASIC to report their unlawful conduct. ASIC will not only investigate their unlawful conduct but also impose a fine.3 comments

Don't consider this insurance policy.
Initially I did feel that this policy was easy to set up and offered good value for money. This was before I had to make a claim. I was provided with inconsistent, misleading advice that took several weeks to resolve - unsatisfactorily for our part. I have found all of my dealings with their customer services department extremely stressful. I would never recommend this insurance to anyone.
