Brand new Cannon Fitzroy heater broken twice in 8 months since purchase
Customer reference number C0164922
My cannon heater stopped working again on 11/05/2020. The heater was purchased 18/02/2019.
Last year in mid-July it had also stopped working, after only working for 8 weeks. A technician came to fix it.
Last Tuesday, on the 12th of May 2020, I rang to enquire about the heater as it has stopped working again. The customer service representative could not find me on the database even though I registered last year. Luckily, I saved an email with my reference number. After I was “identified”, the customer ser...Read more
vice representative told me that I will have to pay for the service if my heater was not serviced last year. I tried to explain that the heater is just 1 year old, but she insisted that the heater has to be “serviced” every year or I will have to pay for the warranty service. I stated that I will pay but I need my heater fixed as it is still under warranty. The customer service representative then stated that she will inform the service team. After 48 hours I still did not receive any phone call or email to confirm service or the warranty claim, so I rang again to enquire about service team attendance. This time the customer service representative was very short and rude with me and told me that she verbally confirmed with me that she will inform the service team. I asked for an approximate date or time when I can expect service. I received rude reply that the “service team has their business to run” and that I will receive a call from them when they find the time to do so.

Buyer regret
As with many others on this thread every winter it doesn’t start. I get it serviced every year and it starts again. Had it for five years, now ignition switch has needed to be replaced eight weeks ago and now not working again. I think my heater was around the 2500 price. I’ve paid over that now in servicing and repairs. Why make a product that has such an ongoing maintenance and repair cost. The 15 year old Vulcan in the back room, whilst it does not look anywhere near as beautiful, has not cost me a cent. Would not recommend this product and am now experiencing buyer regret

Spare parts support is terrible
I bought an ex demo model and we like the heater but it stopped working this winter. My service agent took weeks to get the spark kit. Then it did not solve the problem and we had to order ignition module and pressure switch. This will be another two weeks without it working. I expect a manufacturer to have the parts in stock and to be able to get them from Melbourne to Adelaide overnight. Hewlett Packard get parts from Singapore to Adelaide in less than 24 hours. These parts should not fail after a few years but if they do at least provide outstanding service to your customers/users.

Worst heater
Worst heater ever!! Had this now for 4 years have HD to have a service guy out every year at least.. says it’s dust and that’s why it won’t stay alight. Advise strongly against this heater. Wished I had gone ducted heating now biggest waste of nearly 5 grand. So disappointed and will never purchase any cannon product again. I asked for it to be ripped out and replaced with something else. National heating and cooling refused to do this even though they never told me about this problem with these heaters. After a few visits to service and clean ...Read more
it they told me this is a very common issue. Then why wasn’t I told before buying it.. have kids freezing here at the moment because it’s stopped once again and now running plug in heaters which will cost me a fortune in electricity until it can get fixed yet again.. grrrrPurchased in March 2021 for A$5,000.00.

Cannon Fitzroy heater
Every winter our Cannon Fitzroy heater fails to ignite. We had it serviced last July 2018 and the service is due again this Thursday but the unit shut itself down last Wednesday and we have not been able to get it to ignite since! We have had the exact same problem with this heater every year, it just stops working.
The most frustrating thing is that the heater actually only runs for around 4 months of the year..... Imagine how often it would breakdown if we lived in Tassie! It is a huge expensive piece of rubbish and I would never ever ever ever buy a Cannon product again .

cannon Fitzroy igniting problem
We have a cannon Fitzroy we brought in 2012 and are having problems with it igniting and staying alight, had it serviced and was fine for one night and then the same problem the very next day, contacted the service man and he said it would need a new ignition module and had to order the part, this morning I thought i would see it it ignite and it did and stayed going, my question is do i get the new part fitted or just take the chance with it starting every time ?, this is the 2nd time it's happened in the 6 years we have had it

Loud noise due to thermal movement
A good example of pour quality design and or manufacture. Heater produces thump sound when heating up and several very loud cracking noises when cooling down. The heater works fine and I have no issue in that regard. I would not purchase another similar one unless Cannon could guarantee it does not suffer the same defects.
Purchased in April 2021 at Energy House Adelaide.

Heats well, but the lack of care once you have it installed is non existent.
Replaced a heater with the same brand and model Cannon Fitzroy. This heater seems to like HIGH and when you use the remote is is either blasting or completely off. Cannon were so uninterested in offering any sort of solution to the remote issue that I have simply put it away as a souvenir of uselessness. Rinnai use the same remote, but they have many more features on it so you can actually control the heater properly. I would suggest Rinnai in the future. The heater has an extremely hot exterior and I have been assured that is normal. Other bra...Read more
nds are no way near as hot from my experience when feeling others in friends homes. Cannon were not really to fazed about an overheating issue, after all it is installed against plaster and plaster is combustible, but hey lets worry about that if the house burns down. The person who came to check the heating issue looked at a cold heater, opening it up and left a wire hanging out the bottom which I discovered later. It took 2 weeks for Cannon to respond and by that time I had paid another company to correct the issue. Cannon tried to charge $200 for the call out to check the overheating concern too. I accept it runs hotter than most and may still be safe. I fixed the wire hanging out issue at my cost, its brand new by the way. I got no reply on the phone when I informed Justin I think of the remote issue. Now I am simply telling you all to stay away from Cannon no matter how much you are talked into it. They are less expensive than Rinnai for a reason. Do not buy this brand. They dont care and the attitude you get on the phone is disgusting. Buyer Beware. Its heats well though when used manually, don't buy for a small space like we did. it gets too hot and you end up turning it on and off all night. another reason not to buy it. Cannon do not contact me I am not interested. I just accept I will never support your brand. Suggest customer service training for your staff though.Purchased in October 2021.

Faulty ignition
I have a love-hate relationship with my Fitzroy Cannon gas log heater, which came with my house purchased over a year ago. The heater was a big selling point for me. I was so excited to start using it in winter, but since found that it never starts the first time. It will ignite and as soon as I get comfy in my couch, it turns off. It takes multiple attempts at turning it off and on until it finally stays on. This is very frustrating and I just give up sometimes. But when it’s does stay on it is soooo amazing and then I love it to bits. It loo...Read more
ks beautiful when it’s running and it heats the whole house in no time. If it started the first go, it really would be the perfect heater. I have put a request in on the website to get a service, but with all these bad reviews about the same problem and the poor servicing, I’m crossing my fingers that I don’t have a bad experience, too!Purchased in January 2021.

We’ve had this heater for 4 years now and never had any problems. Perfect heat, starts up perfectly. Looks stunning in our lounge room and the heat radiates to other areas of the house.
We use the heater all winter and have the remote thermostat kit. We have it set to come on at 630am in winter or if it drops below 17 at night it will come on. Definitely worth getting this remote. So easy to use.

Cannon Fitzroy heater
I read of ignition problems, beeping and cold air - and failure to ignite. All the same for me. How I wish I had read before purchase. Biggest problem now is that Cannon tell me there is no one who can service the heater because there is no one in my area!!! I live in the inner west of Melbourne only a short drive into the CBD - and they have no one who services the area. I am shocked. i don’t live in the outback!!!! I paid a lot to install this thing and am so angry about it I could scream. No heat, and you’re supposed to service them regularly! Ha!!! Don’t purchase this heater. Julie

A very problematic "free of charge service visit"!
We received a letter dated on 17 July 2018 from Cannon, suggesting a "free of charge service visit" because of "the possibility for the glass on your heater to slip downwards from the its fixed position". The service was organised and a tradesman turned up, but the whole thing is ended with the power of our heater disconnected and a big bill is sent in to repair the thing the original letter did not mention.
This is a very problematic arrangement, which appears to be that the letter did not really tell what Cannon really wants to do - fix the glass or "hazardous levels of carbon monoxide", or that its contracting company wants to make use of this opportunity. In either case, Cannon should act responsibly.

Support and repair of the Cannon Fitzroy unbelievably bad in ACT
Our Cannon Fitzroy Powerflue in-built gas heater was only installed in late 2012 and we have had the fan repaired twice already 20/7/17 and again in June this year. At the 1st visit we were advised the fan blades had been bent to fix the rattle while the most recent repair involved gluing of the fan in some manner to fix what was described as a problematic design feature of the heater's fan. When the heater wouldn't ignite just 1 week after the most recent fan repair we rang Cannon to get the name of their preferred repairer only to find it was...Read more
the company we were already dealing with. When contacted this company had us wait 3 weeks for a service appointment (even though their website indicates they know how important heating is in Canberra) but we were then advised they didn't have the parts required in their service van or at their office so it had to order it from Cannon in SA. We have since had 2 more visits from this repairer and each time they tell us the part they have acquired from Cannon is not what is required to fix the heater and they go away to order another part - apparently having no parts stored anywhere in the ACT. We are now onto our third recommended part with each part taking at least a week to come into stock. We have been waiting since last Friday week (6th July) for this 3rd recommended part and a call today has confirmed it is "still coming from Cannon" while our temperatures continue to regularly fall between a maximum of 12 degrees and minimum of -6 degrees. So we are still waiting after more than 6 weeks of mid-winter temperatures to get the Cannon Fitzroy heater fixed. Maybe the heater is a lemon but certainly those involved in its support and repair need to reacquaint themselves with the concept of customer service. In response to this review Cannon contacted our repairer and checked the despatched item had been delivered to Canberra. It had ( on Friday 20 July) but our repairer said they couldn't install it until Monday 23 July. They did phone Monday 23rd........to advise they had received the wrong part from Cannon and would have to reorder to get the correct part. So more than 7 weeks on we are back to the very beginning - waiting for a part from Cannon. Our house was 11 degrees inside this morning!!8 comments

Cannon making a hole in my pocket
We moved into our home in 2013 and loved the cannon Fitzroy Heater. We had an issue in 2016 which set us back $723. We got it serviced (by 1 of 2 companies that cannon recommends in our area) a few days ago at a cost of $155 where we got told it needs to be switched off because the carbon monoxide levels are at 14. The technician told us we need a fleu installed. I got a quote today to get that done and I have been told they will need to rip it out to access the unit and install the fleu. I got quoted $2800! I’m devastated to say the least.

Carbon monoxide
We purchased our house in 2007 with a Cannon Fitzroy Gas Log Fire (initially installed circa 2004). A few years ago it started leaking Carbon Monoxide. At the time we were told it was due to faulty flue installation which we had 'rectified' at our own cost. The problem appeared to have been sorted although after that every time it rains heavily rainwater comes out the bottom of the fire damaging the plaster on the wall. Now it has started leaking Carbon Monoxide at dangerous levels yet again as we discovered after getting our regular servic...Read more

I am looking for a really good inbuilt gas fire to fit my existing fireplace. I have been advised that the Rinnai equivalent would not fit as well as the Cannon. However I have just read all the terrible reviews for the Cannon Fitzroy and now I am worried! It's about $1000 cheaper than the Rinnai but I'd rather spend the difference in remodelling the fireplace if it means I get a better product! What guarantees, if any, can Cannon give me to actively consider your product?

Hi Melanie,
For additional information about this product, please refer to our website: https://www.cannonappliances.com.au/indoor-fireplaces/gas-fireplaces/inbuilt/fitzroy.html
Please also note that every Cannon product is provided with the backing of a 3-year comprehensive warranty as well as a 10-year warranty on the heat exchanger.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any further questions.
Kind regards, Cannon
My model from 8 years ago is still a nightmare. I didn't use it at all last year because I couldn't afford another expensive service call and it wouldn't light yet again. Unless the heater has had a complete overhaul and redesign and is 1000% better than my model, I'd go the Rinnai. I'm going to service the heater this year but I'll be looking to get rid of this Cannon disappointment.

Have you tried removing the batteries from the remote? Then wait 5 minutes and put them back in. It might display deg C or routine might work! Could also turn fire off at master switch nearby (not the switch on the heater itself).
Thanks Stephen...I did try the power / batteries routine to no avail...pleased to say I've now found the problem...in the particular instructions, the manual does not include the need to enter the button sequence in under 2 seconds. The clue lay in an adjacent section of the manual for a similar config. Cheers...
