Brand new Cannon Fitzroy heater broken twice in 8 months since purchase

Buyer regret

published

As with many others on this thread every winter it doesn’t start. I get it serviced every year and it starts again. Had it for five years, now ignition switch has needed to be replaced eight weeks ago and now not working again. I think my heater was around the 2500 price. I’ve paid over that now in servicing and repairs. Why make a product that has such an ongoing maintenance and repair cost. The 15 year old Vulcan in the back room, whilst it does not look anywhere near as beautiful, has not cost me a cent. Would not recommend this product and am now experiencing buyer regret

Spare parts support is terrible

published

I bought an ex demo model and we like the heater but it stopped working this winter. My service agent took weeks to get the spark kit. Then it did not solve the problem and we had to order ignition module and pressure switch. This will be another two weeks without it working. I expect a manufacturer to have the parts in stock and to be able to get them from Melbourne to Adelaide overnight. Hewlett Packard get parts from Singapore to Adelaide in less than 24 hours. These parts should not fail after a few years but if they do at least provide outstanding service to your customers/users.

Cannon Fitzroy heater

published

Every winter our Cannon Fitzroy heater fails to ignite. We had it serviced last July 2018 and the service is due again this Thursday but the unit shut itself down last Wednesday and we have not been able to get it to ignite since! We have had the exact same problem with this heater every year, it just stops working.
The most frustrating thing is that the heater actually only runs for around 4 months of the year..... Imagine how often it would breakdown if we lived in Tassie! It is a huge expensive piece of rubbish and I would never ever ever ever buy a Cannon product again .

cannon Fitzroy igniting problem

published

We have a cannon Fitzroy we brought in 2012 and are having problems with it igniting and staying alight, had it serviced and was fine for one night and then the same problem the very next day, contacted the service man and he said it would need a new ignition module and had to order the part, this morning I thought i would see it it ignite and it did and stayed going, my question is do i get the new part fitted or just take the chance with it starting every time ?, this is the 2nd time it's happened in the 6 years we have had it

Loud noise due to thermal movement

published

A good example of pour quality design and or manufacture. Heater produces thump sound when heating up and several very loud cracking noises when cooling down. The heater works fine and I have no issue in that regard. I would not purchase another similar one unless Cannon could guarantee it does not suffer the same defects.

Purchased in April 2021 at Energy House Adelaide.

Cannon Fitzroy heater

published

I read of ignition problems, beeping and cold air - and failure to ignite. All the same for me. How I wish I had read before purchase. Biggest problem now is that Cannon tell me there is no one who can service the heater because there is no one in my area!!! I live in the inner west of Melbourne only a short drive into the CBD - and they have no one who services the area. I am shocked. i don’t live in the outback!!!! I paid a lot to install this thing and am so angry about it I could scream. No heat, and you’re supposed to service them regularly! Ha!!! Don’t purchase this heater. Julie

A very problematic "free of charge service visit"!

published

We received a letter dated on 17 July 2018 from Cannon, suggesting a "free of charge service visit" because of "the possibility for the glass on your heater to slip downwards from the its fixed position". The service was organised and a tradesman turned up, but the whole thing is ended with the power of our heater disconnected and a big bill is sent in to repair the thing the original letter did not mention.

This is a very problematic arrangement, which appears to be that the letter did not really tell what Cannon really wants to do - fix the glass or "hazardous levels of carbon monoxide", or that its contracting company wants to make use of this opportunity. In either case, Cannon should act responsibly.

This product is rubbish

Heater won’t start, looks good but doesn’t operate as it should. Would never purchase one again. Any other gas heater you would exspect to start when ingnighted, me to but this product refused to start when pressing the ignight button. It’s a shame due to such a good looking product.. steer clear...

Cannon making a hole in my pocket

published

We moved into our home in 2013 and loved the cannon Fitzroy Heater. We had an issue in 2016 which set us back $723. We got it serviced (by 1 of 2 companies that cannon recommends in our area) a few days ago at a cost of $155 where we got told it needs to be switched off because the carbon monoxide levels are at 14. The technician told us we need a fleu installed. I got a quote today to get that done and I have been told they will need to rip it out to access the unit and install the fleu. I got quoted $2800! I’m devastated to say the least.

I am looking for a really good inbuilt gas fire to fit my existing fireplace. I have been advised that the Rinnai equivalent would not fit as well as the Cannon. However I have just read all the terrible reviews for the Cannon Fitzroy and now I am worried! It's about $1000 cheaper than the Rinnai but I'd rather spend the difference in remodelling the fireplace if it means I get a better product! What guarantees, if any, can Cannon give me to actively consider your product?

My model from 8 years ago is still a nightmare. I didn't use it at all last year because I couldn't afford another expensive service call and it wouldn't light yet again. Unless the heater has had a complete overhaul and redesign and is 1000% better than my model, I'd go the Rinnai. I'm going to service the heater this year but I'll be looking to get rid of this Cannon disappointment.

We have had 2 Canon gas heaters here for several years and while not used extensively (mild climate) they have both performed well (via wall mounted remote controllers). BUT, while pressing buttons on one of the remotes, the display has changed to deg. F and I can’t get it back to C with the p,t,t,a/m routine. Suggestions please....

Have you tried removing the batteries from the remote? Then wait 5 minutes and put them back in. It might display deg C or routine might work! Could also turn fire off at master switch nearby (not the switch on the heater itself).

Thanks Stephen...I did try the power / batteries routine to no avail...pleased to say I've now found the problem...in the particular instructions, the manual does not include the need to enter the button sequence in under 2 seconds. The clue lay in an adjacent section of the manual for a similar config. Cheers...
