Same heater, same problems
Hi
Have read a number of reviews here and seems my problems with my Fitzroy heater is no different (ignition issue, beeping and cold air).
We have two children under two years old and we need to get this sorted ASAP.

Faulty Again
The heater is a few years old now but have had nothing but trouble after the first couple of years, started up for winter this year and yes again blows out and fails to start. Has been repaired numerous times parts replaced and i am over it. Will replace and not with a Cannon.

Update on original review
I have been meaning to do an update to my previous review for some time. Further to all the good work done by Natural Gas in Canberra, the final solution was to replace the main control electronics board. The fire worked fine and actually seemed to be quieter however by this time the weather was warning up so I did not need the heater on. I will let you know how it goes next winter.

The heater has been used regularly since May and has worked perfectly. I also had the walls and under floor insulated and now find I can leave the heater on low most of the time. I have not had a gas bill for this period so it will be interesting to see if consumption has reduced. IH

Don't buy a cannon Fitzroy
Although we have had our canon Fitzroy for a number of years we have had nothing but trouble from day one. Numerous parts have been replaced and it also cannot be turned on once it has been turned off until completely cold. This sometimes means having to lavecit on all day so we aren't cold at night. Seems to be a common thread here.

Fire keeps going out
Hi
When the fire was first installed we had many issues and stil have the following issues
50% of the time fire lights and after a variable period of time the igniter starts again and the flames go out. We have found it worse in windy conditions and if our cooker range hood is on. It would be great if we could rely on it working every time

Issue with flames not staying alight.

Like so many others, I am having issues with the heater flames going out and the fan keeps blowing out cold air. I note that there is the standard response to contact the service team, but what I haven't seen is any response admitting there is a common fault or design fault with the heater. It appears to me that the design fault has not been addressed over the years and Cannon are failing to acknowledge it. Very disappointing for a very expensive piece of equipment. With this level of accountability I wouldn't be recommending any Cannon products. I'm not sure what sort of issues require recall, but given the frequency of issues, I would expect a voluntary recall given there are potentially safety issues.

Temperamental and unreliable
I have had this heater for six years. After one year I had to replace a number of significant parts. It has shut down every year since then and I have to have it serviced every year since then. It has just crashed again ( now a yearly event) which has prompted me to write this review. It cost me $4000 plus and I would not replace it with the sane brand- it is far too unreliable for the price.

Parts have let us down
Brought our house with the Cannon Fitzroy inbuilt log fire. Have had to have the ignition switch replaced twice in the last 4 years and then it actually snapped the brass ignition point as was always hard to turn & now they don't have any spare parts for repair. So left with having to buy a new gas log heater due to not being able to get an ignition switch - such a waste!

Cannon Fitzroy heater - re post on 29 June 2017
Following my recent post, I received a call from Rebecca IXL Service. IXL replaced the fan which has since been installed. It appears faulty winding was the problem with the old fan. The new fan is also considerably quieter than the original fan. Many thanks to Rebecca and also Keiran from Heat-Cool Keysborough.

Always lets you down
Have had nothing but trouble with our Cannon Fitzroy. As soon as you need it the most (July) it will not light.
Have had this trouble every year since we purchased it and some ignition thingo always has to be replaced. In the meantime we are stuck with no heating!! Very very frustrating.

Won't start
To my disappointment there are so many reviews of the same nature. My issues are no different to anyone else and I have to wonder why there has not been a product recall. Rang Canon was recommended a repairer in my area. The guy said it was the fan though he kept having trouble getting the heater to light and stay on. After two hours finally worked. Went to turn it on the next night same issue. Seriously Canon is this it. This is what we all have to go through for simple heating.

Don't waste your time or money
I have had this heater installed since 2011, so I have had 6 winters of use, a service each year, yet still it has this issue whereby if it gets to a certain temperature it beeps 4 times then you cannot reignite it. Initially I hobbled through winter giving it half hour breaks and battling to restart it, but this winter has been the worst yet. It just won't start. It ignites, runs blowing cold air for about 10 minutes, then that is it....4 beeps and off. It won't restart for at least 12 hours.

Do not buy a Cannon gas log heater. You'll spend most of your time shivering in the cold. Although the heater is very lovely to look at, it has been a CONSTANT SOURCE OF FRUSTRATION. It typically refuses to turn on, and will often turn itself off when it (somehow) manages to ignite.

Hi, we installed our Cannon Fitzroy inbuilt heater around 2012. It worked well for the first winter then we found it used heaps of gas. Had it serviced in 2014 found that it still kept turning itself off. We then had it serviced again in 2016 as it was still turning itself off and wasn't heating and the inside was black.. Lucky we have other source of heating (aircon)
Lucky we have another source of heating, what a waste of money buying and installing it. Same as others say. Good luck if you manage to turn it on, this was from the day one. It takes an hour to try to turn it on, it needs to be -20C in the house to be able to even get it working. This is like buying a really expensive car but you can star it once every 3 weeks and not really when you want it but when the car decides, we also have 2 small toddlers and heating is really important for us. We had it serviced and cleaned regularly, another waste of money.
Hope a company official has an answer, I am not willing to change the ignition all the time, we hardly use the heater, there should be some reliability there and the sense of response.

Do not buy a Cannon Fitzroy heater
We have had our Cannon Fitzroy heater for about 7 years and it has caused us nothing but trouble. My parents bought one at the same time and have had exactly the same problems. When you do eventually get them working you cannot turn them off when you get too hot as they will not ignite again until the room and heater are completely cold. (which often takes 12 or more hours). Every time we have it serviced, the servicemen all say that they are nothing but trouble and are very reluctant to service them.
I am very disappointed with this product as they are very costly and are definitely not worth the money that you pay. Avoid at all costs.

We went to a local heating store and looked at our options and based on what we were told at the store the Cannon Fitzroy was supposedly a very reliable and reasonably priced heater, so we bought one. It's actually nice when we don't have to turn it on because we no longer have to put up with the fans constant noise. Nearly every time we have gone to fire it up at the start of winter something fails. Last winter each time we turned it on the fan produced a screeching noise until it warmed up a bit. These heaters are complex machines and the Cannon Fitzroy just does not cope at all. We paid $5000 for a pile of junk. Every time we look at it or every time we use it and all the times it doesn't work it reminds us of the money we wasted. When it does work it produces good heat and a lovely open fire effect, but it is just so unreliable that it is nothing but a disappointment. Cannon will say that they provide the warranty they are required to, and they do, but you would think for a $5000 product they would provide a warranty for up to 5 years or so. They won't because they know it's a piece of junk and if they actually stood by it, it would cost them a lot of money. I think we have had enough of this one now. I think it is time for us to look for a heater that will actually have some longevity, be built with quality and the customer in mind. This total piece of useless metal and electronics has to go. We didn’t take you up on the offer of parts replaced if we got a service done because my wife had just taken a new job and we did not have the ability to get it organised. If you value quality and reliability look elsewhere
We purchased and had professionally installed a Cannon Fitzroy heater in late 2010. It has been nothing but trouble and any attempt to rectify the problems with Cannon have been met with more diversionary statements than imaginable. Failed ignitor after ignitor, several service call outs at our cost and now slowly poisoning the tenants with carbon monoxide.... all to our expense.
Do yourself a favour and buy anything but a Cannon. You won't regret it.

Read moresetting, the noise level that you are hearing is a combination of the fan motor and and the volume of air that the fan motor is rapidly moving through the front airflow channel. It is recommended to operate the heater on the boost setting for only short intervals and then revert to operating the heater on the normal setting which will provide lower fan noise levels. Heater appears to be well built and well designed. We've only had it in for just over a month but it has started first go and throws out plenty of heat.

Purchased July 2011. Cleaned and serviced every season. July 2014, heater wouldn't ignite and had same beeping sounds as described in reviews below. Phoned Cannon and they told us to buy a new igniter ($400).

Another problem was found (after half hour on high the flames reduced with no change to the settings) so they changed the injectors (where gas and air mix); it didn’t fix the problem. Cannon offered to replace it. The shop we bought it from suggested that we get the Cannon Canterbury as it will fit and you can see the front flames from the burner (it’s missing the Fitzroy’s covering). Permission was granted and now we have a flame effect I’m almost happy about, even on low. I think they could improve the flames by changing the logs. I’m very happy with the way Cannon have handled this matter. I don’t know if mine was just a bad one or it’s a design fault but I would say, if you want a fire like the Fitzroy, buy the Canterbury.- Date Purchased
