I can't get a good crema and also low (if any) froth on Cappuccino setting. Am using cold full cream milk. Have changed grind up and down still very poor result. New machine - a little disappointing.

I watched a video that said you can only change the grind control while it was grinding. Seems a little silly to me but it did make a difference when I did it that way. New machine here as well and I am also not enjoying the taste of my coffee currently. Coming from a breville dual boiler which had great tasting coffee.

Ring customer support they will send you a new drip tray. The one that comes with the machine has a small hole that creates a syphon.

Mine is the same, it stopped today.

I have cleaned out the grinder, however it will not gring

There are also 2 things that can stop it. If you have the grind dial at the bottom level this means you dont want it to grind ie you have grond coffee and just want to use the tamper, or you have not pushed the tamper handle all the way back

So I dont nkow why mine has stopped.

Does the specialists need a water filter...same as magnifica s?

Cheryl B.DeLonghi

Hi Suzy, it depends what type of water you are putting in the machine. If you have particularly hard water a filter is a good idea as it will minimise the scale build up and help your coffee taste better. There is a test that comes with the machine in the accessory box that lets you figure out what your water is.
The filter that fits La Specialista is the one in the below link.
Thank you

My machine is brand new the red coffee bean light won’t stop flashing

Cheryl B.DeLonghi

Hi Isabela, This just means the bean container is not locked in properly. You need to make sure that it pushes all the way around till it clicks in and the light will stop flashing. Then it will just be a solid red light which means add beans.

Renee X.
Renee X.

I have the same problem, i had tried many time to clean the bean container, refil, but the light still flashing

DeLonghi
Cheryl B.DeLonghi

Hi renee this flashing lights only relates to the bean container not being locked in properly. As long as you have the grinder collar set to a number and the bean container is clicked all the way in to the left the light will stop flashing and turn to solid red.

Had my machine about 2 weeks, happy with it generally but I keep finding that the machine can’t push water through the group handle inserts. I fixed it once but now I’ve got the same problem with both inserts. I have clean and scrubbed them and I can see through the holes but even with no coffee in the handle the pressure just builds up and no water is pushed through.

Cheryl B.DeLonghi

Hey Simon, It's the little hole at the bottom of the basket that may have a ground stuck in it. THe basket is dual wall and the filter plate is removable to ensure you can properly clean that tiny little hole on the bottom of the basket. Once that hole is clear the water will flow.

Simon F.
Simon F.

Hi Cheryl - by the baskets I take it you mean the the two sized inserts that come with the machine? I can’t see how I can see that these are dual walled? Is there a link to video you can post?

DeLonghi
Cheryl B.DeLonghi

Hey Simon, Absolutely that is what i mean. Here is a link to the video where at 17 seconds you will see the filter plate being lifted out of the inside and then you have full access to the bottom of the filter and that hole can be cleared.

Hey MTJ just check you don't have x 2 turned on. the x 2 button doubles the dose and the water volume. This will give you more room to turn the dial to what you need.

I just got my DeLonghi La Specialista EC9335M. Is there a way to adjust the amount of water coming out into the cup? I have tried all the settings. I have to run it 2 or 3 times to get a full cup of coffee. This is a hassle if you have a bigger coffee cup.

So no that didn't work either. The machine shuts itself off before my desired amount is reached. I've reset it back to the default setting and tried to program it several times. I still only get less than a half cup of coffee. As much as I like the look of my machine sitting on my counter, I'm probably going to return it for a traditional coffee maker. I don't have that kind of time in the mornings to spend so much time trying to get one full cup of coffee. The hassle isn't worth the cost of the machine.

Hi, just wanted to know how often should this machine need descaling? Currently the descaling light comes on about every 4-5 weeks, my old coffee machine only needed descaling 3-4 times a year.
Secondly, how can you improve the pressure to get more into the optimal zone, I have tried finest grind setting, adjusted the quantity of grind to max that can fit in the filter?
Finally, is the leaking tray an ongoing problem, mine has leaked once, will this happen again?

Ask for a refund: I believe the machine has multiple issues.

DeLonghi
Cheryl B.DeLonghi

Hey Dami,
Thank you for your question, part of the descaling timer is based on what water hardness setting you have activated. The machine is set default to the highest water hardness setting. If you are in an area that has less hard water you can adjust the machine to a lower setting and it will ask you to descale less. Of course when the descale light comes up you don't have to descale straight away. the machine can still be used and the light will stay on to remind you to complete the descale when you have time.
You would have received a water hardness test in the accessory box so you know what water you have as if your water is hard you need to descale more often. Heres the link to the manual and its 12.2 that shows how to reset the hardness

Lian Z.

Lian Z.asked

I have a Delonghi EC9335m
As I have owned it for almost half year.
The automatic grinder malfunctioned as there is no response of the grinder as I attached the handle. There is no indicator informing any system error. The rest of the machine works perfectly as always.
This all happened after I tried to clean out the remaining coffee powder from the grinder which caused by over grinding too much coffee beans on at once.
The system was all good and I made a perfect cup of coffee after the cleaning without any problems. I might touched the “MY“ button as I have never tried before from the time I owned it. And the second morning. The grinder stops reacting to the attachment of the handle.
If this is a software issue. Can someone please tell me how to do a factory reset. Or if this is a hardware malfunction. What are my options now ?

5 answers
roger s.
roger s.

Unplug the machine and leave for 5 minutes the reset all settings.

DeLonghi
Cheryl B.DeLonghi

Hey Lian, This could be because the top grinder burr is not sitting in the grinder properly after cleaning out the burrs. It is only a mm of difference to be in properly or on an angle and not sitting straight. You just need to watch the sides and makes sure as you turn the collar back from remove that it catches all sides and sits flat.
Also did you clean the grinder chut? If this has never been cleaned the small grinds of coffee that seem dry but have tiny drops of oil all over them will build up in the chute so the brush provided can clean this chute out from pushing the brush into the hole behind the tamp and through the chute that can be opened in front of the bean container. That chute has a little arrow on it pointing to the grinder collar. just press down on the left and it will push up and you can push the brush down the hole to clear the grounds as well.
To reset the machine the easiest way is to turn off at the front than the back and then the power point leave off for 1 minute than turn back on at power point then back of machine then front of machine.
There is also a micro switch on the tamp handle that stops the grinder from working if it isn't pushed all the way back into resting position check the tamp is all the way back.
Also is the dose dial pointing to the pre ground mode as this stops the grind from being on as well.
Hope these tips help if you would like to chat with a human please give our customer service team a call on 1800 126 659 they are always happy to talk through the steps.

Hi Vanessa,
Sounds like there could just be an air bubble try the prime function in the following video to make sure the machine is primed. Also try resetting the machine completely by turning it off and on in exactly this order. turn off the front first than at the back than at the powerpoint and disconnect for 30 seconds then plug back in and turn on at power point than at the back and then at the front of the machine. Then prime the machine and let me know how you go. If you would prefer to talk to someone who can talk you through the steps just give our customer service team a call on 1800 126 659
