Whew ... THAT was close!!
We are Honda people. It's just the way of it, but having said that we like good quality stuff, especially when it comes to anything with an engine. So when we needed a smallish generator to act as a backup for a smallish stand alone power system, it came down to a race between Honda and Yamaha. The big, ubiquitous two.
Thank god I just happened to strike one of those "10 best generators" reviews on some caravanning website ... which proclaimed several winners across various categories. The winner of their "most durable" category just happened
... Read moreto be this Dometic beauty. Anyway, given that durability is probably the most valued attribute of anything we tend to buy, I decided to read on. The extras that were built into this generator suited us perfectly. As if we'd designed it ourselves. Not only that, it was on clearance at Tentworld, and after a frantic phonecall to the local store we were lucky enough to jag the very last one they had still sealed in its box! At just $790 it is, believe it or not, just over a third the price of the Honda we were soooo close to pulling the trigger on. Anyway, all the specs are online, check the boring stuff for yourself ... but what we like - first off, it was quieter than we thought it would be. MUCH quieter. We have a 15 year old 5.5KVA Honda (of course!) which backs up our main house supply. It's super reliable - and probably 3 times louder than this little Dometic. It starts on the second pull. Every time. It has an electric start option. No - you don't have to buy a battery ... it's internal. No you don't have to buy separate leads if you want to use the electric start, you just have to access the leads under a storage flap and plug them together. I have no clue how long the battery will last or if it's replaceable - we only ever use the pull cord. But that feature is not something we expected in a generator at this price point.Better than most
Runs the A/C, others would just cut out on start up, maybe has capacitors for startup, given the small battery for the start up it must have capacitors also, very impressed, quiet and it works, :)

BEST EVER
Love the generator, hasn't let me down once and can run the Caravan Air Conditioner without fault, even though they said it wouldn't. Got it from Anaconda and was going to buy another but they no longer sell them which is a shame. Left it in the shed for 3 months and first push of the electric start it was back in action. Run it most days now and hasn't missed a beat. You will not be disappointed. Read the other reviews and not sure why people rate it low. I have had many inverter generators, and this is the best.
Show detailsDisappointed
Received Generator yesterday complied with instructions from manual for starting. Generator does not idle and runs roughly. Eco switch does not work. 240 appliances do not work when plugged into sockets. No lights displayed on panel when operating as per manual. Electric start barley has enough power in it to turn the engine over? Have contacted Caravan RV Camping who supplied the unit so I will await there resolution. Very disappointed as out of the box and doesn’t do what it’s meant to do.

Know better, choose better.
Great little unit with few minor design issues
I purchased the Dometic PGE121 because a mate purchased one about a year back and he loves it, and it was on sale for half the RRP and it's electric start which is hard to find in this size inverter generator, the build quality appears to be fairly good and definitely much better than some other cheaper ones my friends have purchased online. I put semi synthetic Penrite oil in same I use in all my petrol equipment, followed the starting procedure and it started first pull I used pull start on first startup to see how easy it starts and it's bri

Checked the quality of output under various loads and the voltage is steady at 230v +/- 2v on the DVM and my scope shows a nice clean 50hz sine wave with no visible distortion. The (economy) mode seems to respond quickly and effectively to changes in electrical load. And the fact I can parallel it with another Dometic PGE121 is a bonus to increase my available power when required. Plus I know first hand dometic stand behind their products and will help their customers. The built in wheels are handy but only on hard ground concrete, or compact soil not to useful on gravel or rocks, you need to check the fuel cap before laying it down if you chose to store it that way as it can leak. If your a person to follow manuals it can be a little vague but I'm sure you'll figure it out.Questions & Answers

Caravan RV Camping have given me a full refund for the generator. Still never received a reply from Dometic? I would stay clear of purchasing this generator. You get what you pay for, clearly there is a good reason why it is discounted so much.
