Sounds like it is cactus, have had a bunch of water heaters pack up in my life and this is a symptom when this happens. Up to you ultimately but the plumber will probably tell you to ditch it go with a more reputable brand which will generally be a couple hundred dollars more.
Get a new system and not DUX which are duds!

2 hot logic boards and a replacement fan and now I notice a water leak from the bottom of the unit. The unit was installed in 2008. This is unacceptable Dux. What is this going to cost me? This appear to be a problem many have experienced here. I think Dux needs to replace these units at their cost or they may be sufficient reasons for a class action law suit. Do the right thing Dux. Thanks. KishoreS

i'm keen for a class action, mine just **** itself not even 5 years old, nothing left under warranty except if the whole tank splits and then i still have to pay for the labour and installation if it needs to be replaced!
I'm up for this action I had my post removed because I told it as it is just a crappy dux product
I will be in on a class action. Our system is only two years old and has been nothing but trouble. There is no hot water yet again because of the faulty pilot light.... grrrr

My dux airoheat sounds like a refridgerator and the inside is icing up. Is this normal for winter where the temperatures drop? I have turned the hws off and let it defrost, upon turning on again the fan starts up as per usual but hours later the ice has returned and is making the fridge humming noise again. I had a dux technician out 18 months ago where the logic box was replaced and a full audit done. Located on Gold coast

Hi Peter James, It is correct that ice can form on your hot water system. The system should then go into a de icing process, this should not effect you receiving hot water. If you would like more information - please send an email to [email protected] - please supply your serial number of your system.

Thanks for the reply. I'm still getting the hot water as you stated. Is it normal for the ice to remain for a few days?

My system is making a rattling noise. What problem could it be?

I'm no expert by any means but it'll be one of 2 things. One, the fan is stuffed (or there could be something stuck in the blades - the position of the fan leaves it wide open for leaves, twigs etc to get blown into it). Does the noise only happen when the fan is spinning? If it's the fan, it's fairly easy to replace. It'll cost you about $200 for a replacement fan though. If it happens when the fan is still then my guess would be the compressor which is the only other moving part on this machine. And if that's gone, then god knows what that'll cost to fix if it's out of warranty.
