Hi
How can I increase the water pressure in my house that is running off of one of these heat pumps? Is there an internal pump or does it rely on main pressure? If so, can I install an inline pump and how far from the heat pump should it be?

Hi Lionel,

It's our pleasure to answer your question.

The "Pump" in Heat Pump refers to the heating process where the unit compresses (pumps) the refrigerant to superheat it and provide heat energy for heating the water.

To change water pressure, please consult your plumber or one of our service agents; please call 1300 365 115 Option 2.

Is it normal for the unit to ice up during warmer weather? If so how long does the de-icing program run for. It has been going at least 12 hours now. The water being supplied from the unit is much hotter than normal.

Hi,
Do you have any instructions on how to replace the anodes in an D2FHG4HW0C?
I'm trying to determine if I need a plumber to do this or it's a DIY task.
Thanks.

Get onto your local Dux dealer, especially if you are still within their warranty period. They have an owner's manual which you should have got when it was installed. It will tell you more in that manual. If you didn't get one, ask Dux for a copy or download from their website. They now warranty their enamelled steel tanks for 10 years so it is reasonable to expect to get 10 years before any leaks. We had our first leak before 2 years and the replacement just over 5 years.

Do not bother - just go back to electric system

I have hydrotherm system also and it has been working a treat for almost 5 years.

My plumber totally advised against heat pumps but had not heard of hydrotherm which might be a good sign and I also have had fantastic experience with that brand.

Big NO to dux and rheem ! Problems from the very beginning!

Thursday night water seemed hotter than usual.
Friday the fan didn't cut out and water started to cool.
Saturday water lukewarm and fan still going, no cut out. Sighted three green lights on. Turned off power. Restarted later - no change.
Any ideas before I contact electrician. I could not afford weekend callout fee.

Until recently I have been very happy with my Airoheat unit. But now I have a problem with water constantly running from the PTR valve and when I googled to see if this was a known problem I found that quite a number of other customers are experiencing the same at around 5 to 6 years old. When I phoned the Dux service line I was told not to pay attention to comments on the internet as they are usually negative. A very unsatisfactory answer to my query. Before I go ahead and spend a lot of money having this fixed, I would like to know what the outcome has been on other people's queries. Has the source of the problem been fixed? Has anyone taken this to Consumer Affairs? Should I just ditch this and get a new system? Sandra

Hi Sandra,
Dux Manufacturing Limited uses RMC relief valves.
RMC is the manufacturer of this valve, and as per their advice, they recommend the relief valves to be replaced
once every 5 years.

It is quite possible that the relief valve has reached the end of it's life span.
You are welcome to contact them directly if you wish to discuss this.

If it is only the relief valve that is leaking, and you are experiencing no other faults,
changing over the relief valve will fix the problem.

Kind regards,

Thanks, but incorrect. The recommended service agent replaced the Hot Logic box, which was the source of the problem. Due to water damage. Not surprising since the design of the unit left this part open to the elements and we have recently had huge downpours. Also not surprising is that the new Hot Logic box comes with a "Rain Kit" which sits the box up on a shelf and has a plastic cover over it, thus preventing water from entering the unit. So clearly, the company now realises it was a mistake or a design flaw not having this protection previously. I would just like to see that acknowledged. Unfortunately my model could not be converted to a 'standard' electric HWS by removing the heat pump function but apparently some older models can be. This would have been a more economical fix and I would recommend others having similar issues to do that if possible to avoid repeat issues in future. The service agent confirmed that they have had no end of problems with the heat pumps. A nice idea at the time but evidently not successful in the long term, and not that much greener or cheaper than a standard electric system. Hopefully I will get another year or so out of this unit, then I will be switching to a conventional electric unit - not DUX, unless I see some admission of fault which may restore my faith.

I did contact Consumer Affairs, and they advised that according to legislation, you should be able to expect a product to last for a reasonable amount of time past the warranty date. The issue is the term "reasonable"- it is up for debate as to what constitutes this. That being said, the TANK on my unit ruptured, and I was given a "too bad, so sad, it's out of warranty" attitude from 2 different Dux customer service reps. As it was just after Christmas when this happened, and with 2 young children, being without water for an extended period of time was not an option, so that left me with no capacity to challenge this with Dux. The new unit that we have is now a standard HWS, and funnily enough, has a tank warranty that lasts 7 years- making it a reasonable claim that the tank on the previous unit should have lasted beyond the time that it did. This makes this within my rights to challenge the issue through legal avenues should I decide.
