When dust enters the bin it is spun out of the airflow. At the bottom of the dust bin there are plastic baffles to catch the dirt/hair/fluff and keep it down. If it wasn’t going to be caught, these would keep spinning and negatively affect the performance of the machine.
The way your dust bin fills depends on a number of factors, primarily the type of dust and dirt, and also the speed in which the particles enter the dust bin. If the majority of your debris is smaller, such as dust particles, sand, grit etc, it is more likely to evenly fill the bin bottom to top (think like a glass held unevenly under the tap).
If more carpet fibres, hairs threads etc are sucked through the machine, the fibres can catch onto each other as they spin through the dust bin. The baffles at the bottom will catch them, and they will tend to bundle together and build up and out from the one spot.

We Have had our dyson v10 for about 6 months now and after about 1 minute of using it the filter light comes on everytime! With or without the attachments. I've cleaned the filter and thoroughly emptied the bin and heads and still it comes on. It still vacuums well but I'm not sure why it keeps coming on?

Hi Crystal, mine did that at one stage always having filter light on, for me when I removed the top filter and washed it under water it then went away. At first I thought the filter was the big part in the bin area and come to find it was not. Your not doing what I did are you? The bin compartment is 1 section and filter is on top?

I have a Dyson V10 absolute and the flexible hose attachment has been cracked since purchase. Dyson Australia have been out of stock for the last 5 months and are unable to send a replacement. Hard to believe. Anyone else have a cracked attachment ? Dyson customer service really lacks on the service, for the customer!

Can you use the main head from the absolute on the animal as the main head from the absolute is better for hard floors aparently?

Yes you can, they have the same connection, however I find the hard wood floor useless, yes it better at picking up the small dirt but the head goes every which way.

Hi guys, my v10 says there’s a blockage. I have cleaned filter, removed head, long bit and checked blockages, opened cylinder and checked, no blockages visible, but light still on and I am unable to use as it keeps making the stop start like there’s a blockage.

I am having problems with my Dyson V10 Absolute with the blockage light coming on every time I use this and then it shuts off. I have checked for blockages and have found none at all and I have also cleaned filter. This is very frustrating as I have only had this about 2 months. Any ideas?

Hi Kerry.
We haven't had any trouble with the blockage light coming on, but did initially have trouble with the machine appearing to get blocked. We worked out that on some surfaces you need to ramp the power button on the top back a bit. That suction was so good that the vacuum roller head was sucking things like mats into the head and blocking up the tube. See if winding the power back a bit makes a difference for you on the surfaces where you are getting that blockage signal.
Failing that, we had a part break on a previous Dyson and I couldn't fault their after sales service. They repaired it and even put a few extra parts on as well.

Hi. I've had my V10 for approx 2 months and I'm struggling to remove the stick to empty the filter the last few times. I can remove it today! It clicked on smoothly, I'm depressing the button and the stick isn't budging! What is the trick?!

I just bought the V10 last weekend. When I release the power button the vacuum does not immediately shut off. Is this normal?

Thank you for your question.
After releasing the trigger the machine will turn off however you may hear a "winding down" type of noise. When the trigger is released the motor brakes the rotor to a stop almost instantly and the magnets bounce between the four stator positions. Like a ping pong ball bouncing on a table, they move a smaller distance each time creating a sound which our engineers call the 'boing'.

Which attachment should I use for tiles and which attachment is for carpet? The manual tells me nothing.

Use the Soft roller head for tiles, timber and delicate floors. The other head, with two spirals of brushes is the Multi floor head.. which can be used on hard floors too but is not as gentle, is the one for carpets. Suggest checking out one of the many internet videos demonstrating the V10 for correct use.
In practice the soft roller will sweep carpets too this not best the pile too.

We have a Dyson V10 Absolute and is about a month old. I find that the battery gets very hot to the touch. I don’t remember this happening when we first bought it. Is this normal or if not what would the problem be and how to fix it?

I believe Dyson has a 12month warranty across all their products, if it were me, ill just bring it back to where I bought it and get them to have a look.

My new V10 Absolute is my 3rd Dyson and my last one is still going well at my daughter's home. The new one works well, but if you take your finger off the button and stop for a few seconds, it will not restart. I have to put it back on the charger for a few seconds and then it will run again. It is obviously a fault and I would like it replaced as I am a staunch Dyson fan. Do I go back to Harvey Norman Mandurah which is now 400ks away as I have moved house, or deal with Dyson direct.
