Exemplary Customer Service
I've been connected with EnergyTrade since moving into my apartment 18 months ago now. We had power the same day we moved in and haven't had any dropouts whatsoever.
I've also experienced financial troubles during this time and was connected with Marion who has been nothing short of pure gold. She's always ready to help and no matter what crazy situation I send her way, she always finds a way to make it work so everybody's happy.
Thank you so much Marion for looking after me when I needed it most

Badly overpriced
They claim that by using bulk buying power they are able to get the best prices. This may be true but they do not pass them onto the consumer with a price well above the NSW average
Hi Michael,

Overpriced water supply for 1 person!!
I am in an embedded network with no choice but to use Energy trade. Since moving into the apartment building, I am being charged over $100 per month for water. I am 1 person. The meter reads have to be incorrect as the last 2 months I have hardly been home yet the usage keeps increasing. Just received December 2021 invoice. I have been charged $114 for hot water alone and apparently used 6107Ls of water in a month! Find it interesting as I had been interstate since the 20th and the other 20 days I spent no more than 4 days at home a week. This ...
Read moreusage seems excessive and impossible given my living circumstances. I am a single income earner and these bills keep increasing despite my energy saving efforts to keep costs low. I am feeling frustrated and wish I could leave the agreement so I can afford living costs again.Hi Courtney,
Your invoice definitely doesn't sound correct if you have been out of your property for a a considerable part of the month. I am not sure if you have already contacted us, but please call...
Ridiculously overpriced
I moved into my apartment about 2 months ago.
I was not told that this company bills monthly let alone that the only company I could go with was Energy Trade. If only I was told then I would NEVER had leased my apartment. My husband and I are not home for 9 hours sometimes even more a day and our use of water is very limited but our first bill was $120 for just the hot water. After talking to people from energy trade that had no idea what they were talking about (I had one girl tell me not to use the dishwasher and hand wash instead to save wat...

Ridiculously overpriced run away from this provider
I moved into unit with embedded network and previously was with Simply energy whose pricing and supply charges are way cheaper than Energy Trade. I can definitely say that Energy Trade is overpriced, has separate and very high supply charges for gas Appliance, hot water, Daily supply charge and they will rip off your pockets. Our apartment might soon get away from this provider. If your unit is in an embedded network with Energy trade run away don't move in and save your hard earned money.
Hi Rajeev,
I'm sorry for the pricing related issues you are currently facing. We can definitely look at your previous pricing to see what we can do. Please send through your previous account details ...

terrible company, terrible customer service
last time when i wrote a review somebody from energy trade answered my review and told me that i can change my electricity provider if i am unhappy by them but when i tried to change my provider this is the energy trade response "I cannot cancel your plan before you are connected to another provider and you are still connected to Energy Trade.
Leaving an embedded network is not as simple as calling and asking to change. Only the electricity consumption can be moved to another network, not the daily supply charge. The daily supply charge becomes...

Unaffordable
Energy Trade is the most expensive supplier I have ever been forced to use. We are in an embedded network and they own the infrastructure. I can’t change suppliers without incurring the cost of installing a new metre. On top of paying for consumption there are separate daily supply charges for electricity, hot water and gas cooktop. Water usage is charged per litre. My first invoice was $88.65 for 9 days. July invoice was $120.84 for Electricity and $110.84 for Water. August was $93.89 for Electricity and $106.09 for water. I signed up to direc...
Read moret debit to get a discount on usage charges. We now shower once per day and reduce consumption however we can and are still paying $200 per month. There are three occupants in our house and two are children. Absolutely disgraceful Energy Trade! Kathy if you are thinking of replying as you have in other reviews please don’t tell me how competitive Energy Trade is because you most definitely are not. I was with AGL for 13 years and paid $26 per week on their bill smoothing option. I am now paying Energy Trade twice that amount.Hi Anna,
I am sorry to hear you are still finding your monthly bills too expensive.
I am pretty sure I know which customer you are and we have spoken before. I will reach out today to see if there is anything else we can do to assist you....

$130 per month
Single person in one bedroom unit. Always used my appliances in moderation and the company always charged me double the cost versus other providers. I have just switched back to Energy Australia and now I’m only paying half the price per month compared to Energy Trade. 0/10 wouldn’t recommend. Save your $$$ and just choose other companies are your provider instead.

Consistently fantastic service
We have integrated power within our apartment block and I've never had any issues with Energy trade. Even during a period where my income was lowered, the team came up with a plan that allowed me to still make payments and get back on track

Great service with outstanding pricing
I have been a customer of Energy Trade since January 2021. The bills have been reasonable since moving in and although I was apprehensive about being in an embedded network my bills have been manageable

Expensive hot water charge! Total rip off
Moved into apartment in Campsie, NSW and found out we have no choice but to use Energy Trade as our electricity,
Gas and hot water provider. Biggest REGRET ever moving in. Our hot water consumption charge is VERY high and cannot be explained, they are an embedded network and so we cannot track the hot water metering. We are very disappointed that we did not know about this earlier and the only way to get out of this ripped of situation is to move out. We are 2 adults paying $182 a month when previously we were with Energy Australia in another ...

Hi everyone,
I was with EnergyTrade in my previous unit for electricity only, the bills seemed somewhat expensive but I didn't think much about it. Now, I moved to a new unit and here it's EnergyTrade for everything (electricity+gas+"HOT WATER"). The idea of charging for hot water per litre seems like a scam to me. I haven't got my first bill yet but after reading all these reviews I fear that I'm in for the worst (Guys! Please don't laugh...)
Now, my questions are
1. What can be done about this (EnergyTrade) legally? Apart from moving out which doesn't solve it.
2. Did anyone made complaints to the Energy & Water Ombudsman NSW (https://www.ewon.com.au/page/making-a-complaint/complaint-forms), If yes, what was their response?
3. If this many customers are unhappy with something, then I definitely think that should be solved. Should we all sign a petition against EnergyTrade? Would it achieve anything?
4. How does this kind of company is allowed to prosper (charge per litre hot water) ? No regulation, and compliance. Who allowed it to happen? Who can change it?
5. Why don't they charge per Mj instead by calulating a standard such as how many Mj is used to heat one litre or comparing to normal standards around the country. I guess this would make more sense because we are getting charged twice for water.
And finally, I will provide a review once I get my first bill. In the meantime, everyone please provide your opinions. I very much appreciate your time.
Hi Prasanna,
Thank you for posting your questions online. My apologies there has been a delay in responding but I had not noticed any comments in Q&A.
With your new property, your electricity is charged the same as it was previously and our rates for electricity daily supply and consumption reduced on 1 September 2020 and we are competitive with the big 4 retailers.
1. Energy Trade is partnered with Energy Locals, an authorised electricity retailer. Together we look after your energy supply including delivering energy to your home/business, connections and disconnections, billing and payments and supporting customers who need assistance. This arrangement will provide you with greater customer protection in line with the AER's energy market rules.
2. Energy Trade is held to all AER guidelines and energy market rules; allowing any of our customers to complain if they feel we have not met their expectations in some way. The Ombudsman will want to know that we’ve worked together to try and resolve the issue as best as possible and will refer you to our customer service team if we have not been contacted us before.
3. Energy Trade has 1000’s of happy customers but we have never paid or incentivised customers to leave comments online.
4. We understand that a community energy network is something most residents have never been part of in previous properties. We are regulated and follow strict compliance guidelines in line with AER’s energy market rules.
5. While you receive a water bill from your water supplier (Sydney Water), it does not include hot water supply and usage charges. Your building’s Energy Trade community hot water & gas network heats and supplies the water to your apartment.
Prasanna, I encourage you to contact me to discuss your concerns. Please email [email protected] with the subject heading Att Kathy or call 1300 001 255 and ask for me.
Kind regards,
Kath
I am okay with the EnergyTrade's electricity service in my previous unit and current unit. But, the hot water, that is a whole different issue which I'm definitely not liking so far and all my comments, questions are regrading only the hot water service and billing. You mentioned that Energy Trade has 1000's of happy customers, I bet none of them are getting "hot water" bill from EnergyTrade.
I don't think any of the large energy retailers charge per litre of hot water for the centralized hot water service. for example, as for Origin and AGL, I found out that they only charge for the amount of gas used to heat the water. Do you still think this is in line with the AER? I would never think that AER would allow something like this. Is EnergyTrade a member of Energy & Water Ombudsman NSW?
Is the hot water metering in line with the metering standards followed nationwide? How does the hot water billing works when the consumer using tepid, slightly warm, and hot water? the amount of gas consumed is not same for all temperatures.
I specifically searched in my friends circles in the same area to find a reasonably comparable usage in everything (electricity, gas, hot water). I compared my energy bills with them and guess what, their three month (gas) bill equals my one month (gas+hot water). Do you still think this is competitive?
This system is disadvantageous if someone needs to claim gas rebates as the billing is not in Mj. Why should someone lose out on energy rebates, especially during present COVID-19 situation.
As I mentioned earlier, I have not received my first bill yet but I calculated the bill using the consumption data. I will comment once I get the bill
Hi Prasanna,
*Almost twice as many of our sites have gas, electricity & hot water.
*You are correct that most companies do not charge in litres; this tends to be a feature of embedded networks.
*Energy Trade is partnered with Energy Locals, an authorised electricity retailer. Together we look after your energy supply including delivering energy to your home/business, connections and disconnections, billing and payments and supporting customers who need assistance. This arrangement will provide you with greater customer protection in line with the AER's energy market rules. We are answerable to the AER and EWON as with other retailers and all of our customers are afforded the same protections.
*If your hot water is mixed with cold water, it will use less hot water. If you had a mixer tap set to the middle; you would use roughly 50% hot and 50% cold water so one litre of warm water in this instance would use only 500ml of hot water. With a Gas or Electricity heated hot water system, you use more heated water, the hotter the water is; the principle is the same.
*Are you calculating consumption through My Account?
*Unfortunately, you are right and it is not possible to claim the gas rebate. We are always pushing for changes in the guidelines to afford our customers the same benefits as they may have enjoyed previously.
Warm regards,
Kath
