Smart Watches / Fitness Trackers Buying Guide
Our buying guide will explain which type of smart watch / fitness tracker would suit you most, how much you can expect to pay for one, and which features are worth looking out for.
BE AWARE ANDROID PHONE USERS
I bought a Garmin Vivofit 3 and had trouble syncing in with the app. When I took it back to JB Hi-Fi I found out Garmin devices may or may not be compatible with Android phones (which I have) depending on the Garmin updates. It may be compatible now but next update it may not sync correctly. They staff advised that this would be an ongoing problem with Android devices which is disappointing.

Love it
My main goals from the Garmin were to:
1. Track my steps to make sure I was walking enough
2. Remind me when I was inactive for too long
This watch does both plus more.
The added benefit is that it is waterproof so I can keep it on all the time. Many of the other fitness watches are not waterproof, and I know I would always forget to put it on after showers, swimming etc, and be paranoid about getting it wet.
Only downside is that I do a bit of shopping with trolleys and prams and it does not seem to track steps when holding onto either of those.

LOVE IT
I purchased the garmin vivofit 3 a year ago and it is still in great condition. They say the battery will last about a year and myn is still active so I think for convenience (so you don't haven't charge the battery daily) this product is the best.i would recommend this product to anyone.

Excellent tracker...
I bought 3 of these. for me and my children. they work great. seem to be reasonably accurate. only one issue is that the bands don't stay done up properly. i wear mine everyday and it always seems to partially unclip. my son's fell off and we lost his. other then that if you can get a different band these vivofits are great!

Bit of a waste of money
This has been a bit of a disappointment . It has already started to loose time. It doesn't automatically since with your device which is something I keep forgetting to do each day. I actually find the health app on my iPhone more useful than this Garmin . It is definately$100 I could have spent better

Love it!
It's given me a boost in taking responsibility for my health and fitness. Having two young children I was waking up a lot so it's sleep function was interesting and validated why i was so tired. It also encourages you to get moving when still for too long which is needed when you spend hours sitting at a desk!

I like the device. Connectivity to the phone is hit and miss
I have worn this consistently since May and would recommend it. The only issue is that the app struggles to recognise it and sync. I love that it is waterproof unlike many other options available. This means that I never forget to put it on. It is simple and relatively basic but good.

Not entirely happy
I'm not sure how accurate it is. I bought it to use instead of a basic pedometer, but they often differ by quite a lot, sometimes by as much as 30% I realise that neither is guaranteed to be completely accurate, but sometimes the vivofit records more steps than the pedometer, but usually it's anything from a few hundred to several thousand steps less.
When I got home, I found out that to sync to my computer or tablet, I needed an ant stick, as it isn't compatible with my Samsung Galaxy tab S2. When I contacted Garmin, they sent me a stick f...Read more

A smart pedometer bracelet that tracks your activity and motivates you to keep moving.
Buy this gadget if you’re looking for a fitness tracker that keeps things simple. However there are a couple things to think about, for example the Vivofit 3 has no vibrating alarm or any smart notifications, it can’t keep you quietly notified and the audible alarm can’t be set using the smartphone app. It's waterproof up to 50 meters, which means swimming with it is no problem (nor is showering, obviously), and it uses a replaceable battery that Garmin claims lasts over one year. On the other hand, if you like the idea of a simple fitness trac...Read more
ker that can be paired with an ANT+ heart rate monitor zone, you should definitely buy the Vivofit 3. It’s a solid fitness tracker and delivers where it matters, but the smaller screen feels like a mistake, where its best features are now more concealed.Similar opinion? Great value
I have been wearing a Vivofit 2 for the past 2 years on the original battery and as I managed to get a bit of paint on it thought it would be time for a replacement. I noticed the Vivofit 3 was available in my credit card rewards program and the points vs value made it a bit of a steal.
It is certainly a lot more comfortable to wear although I find the clasp a little more awkward. Love that you don't have to take the device off to charge and the proper button for changing settings makes much easier to use.
On the downside, the numbers are...Read more
a little small and I now need glasses to read the display while the Vivofit had such large numbers could do without. A larger display would have been better. Re-orientating the how the numbers are displayed is more convenient and like the dual display how you can see the time and steps etc at the same time. Very convenient. Outstanding value for money and if the Vivofit 3's battery lasts 2 years will be very pleased. Recommended.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Pros: No charging required.
Waterproof
Lasting
Screen with digit time
value for money
it has most functions a fitness tracker has
Cons: no heart rate monitor
does not notify on messages and phone calls.

Never again!
I purchased this product only 6 months ago and I've lost count of the number of times the band has come undone and dropped off my wrist. I've now lost it for good and will not be buying another one. From reading other reviews it appears to be a common problem and one which should be addressed. If the band was more like a regular watch band it would be sufficiently secure. Back to the drawing board Garmin.

Great!
I did a lot of research before purchasing the Vivofit3.
It's comfy to wear and tracks steps, distance, and sleep.
The downside for many people is that it doesn't have a heart rate monitor - For me this wasn't required or an issue and it does add to the price and battery usage.
For me the best thing about the Vivofit 3 is that the battery lasts for around 1 year. You don't need to plug it in and recharge every night or every few days like other fitness trackers.
Recommend.

Item works great
Good product. Watch has kept good time. Syncs well with both Samsung and apple phones.
Seems to track sleep well too.
Shows calories burnt, date, target steps, steps to reach goal and how many steps over. Has an easy to use backlight and also can record lap times!
Only issue is when stuck in traffic it starts counting steps haha!

Fantastic product
Love it, I swim for 45 mins every day and I've been wearing it for four months without ever taking it off....I can read it in direct daylight, love it much more than my old Fitbit as I don't have to charge it. It was on special at Harvey Norman and I'm glad I bought it. I find the red bar telling me to move after an hour really good too. I love the fact it doesn't vibrate as I couldn't get used to my Fitbit doing that, even after years I'd always jolt in shock a bit. I've bought extra bands in different colours on eBay as well. But yeah, best thing, don't have to recharge or take it off at all!!!

Could Be Better
The watch works but for the price you pay you may as well get a Fitbit. Bought this through a rewards program and its ok for being cheaper than market price. It does the job but there are still plenty of glitches that need to be worked out. Really annoying when you reach your daily step goal and then have to actually click of that screen to see anything else which is unlike any other watch.

Great Watch
Excellent product seem very accurate to me, love the way I can update the bands to give it fresh look. Seems to be fairly accurate with its step counting, most friends who have similar ones seem to take double the steps. Uploads to Garmin connect wireless battery life seems good. Would love it to have GPS incorporated in small watch like that, cycling does not count for many steps 20k ride probably give 1500 steps, not sure how it counts steps cant just wave your arms, also beeps you when you are idle for to long . Would highly recommend it also includes stop watch

The product works but there are far better products on the market. I got mine and the band kept coming off, I was meaning to write to garmin but didnt have the time, within a month i had lost it 3 times. then my dog found it and ate the band. Luckily the computer part was ok. i looked for replacement bands but they were more that i wanted to pay, finally 11 months later i find some on Ebay and have started wearing it again.

Happy with it but worried I'll lose it.
I got my Garmin Vivofit 3 through Flybuys and my first one had to be replaced 3 months later as it died. Don't know whether it was just a dead battery or a bigger problem, but since the battery is meant to last at least a year, I sent it back and they replaced it pretty quickly.
I particularly like it because I'm allergic to nickel and found most watch bands irritated my wrist, even if it was just the buckle touching my skin, and the Vivofit is the only one that doesn't have a metal catch I believe (could be wrong). So, I love the fact that it...Read more
