Help during COVID-19
My husband and I have both been stood down with no pay during COVID-19, and I work in the travel industry which could be on stand down for quite some time.
I called HCF to see if they could assist in any way with my premium. The gentleman I spoke to kindly waived my premium for 3 months with no change to my cover.
The gentleman on the phone also suggested I check HCF Thank You on their website which offers a range of discounts on Woolworths, Coles etc. They are small discounts however every bit helps.
Thank you so much HCF, you have no idea how much this helps us right now. Very much appreciated!

Great insurance a lot of extras we can use for our health needs.
I have been with HCF for more than 15 years. Due to our age ( couple in our early 70s) and different health issues, we are on top level hospital cover plus extras.
Although on high end, it serves our health needs well. We are happy with easy to use web site, competent staff. I have also prefer their email correspondence over call center: never ever had any issues.
Some of the extras (like surgical shoes) are almost "unique" for HCF and disappeared from their competitors. We are like " zero access" for our day hospital procedures.
I would recommend HCF for any aged couple with multiple problems: you will get help!

I joined in February and still haven’t got my card yet. I have requested one three times now and i just get told that it will come. April and still waiting. I have to pay up front in full because no card.

Our new health insurer, time will tell.
HCF is our new chosen insurer after 5+ years with Nib, who have continued to increase our premiums and reduce our cover. Talk about benign neglect. We now have increased benefits, lower excess, lower premiums and more local approved providers so look forward to our new cover. Also their website looks very easy to use.

Beware the Unemployment Assistance Insurance!
We have been with HCF for 15 years, and have been very happy with them until now.
My husband’s job was made redundant at the end of February 2020. He had been working full time, and was the bread winner in our family. I work part time, and have done for many years in order to care for our children. No problem with continuing to pay the private health insurance premiums, I thought to myself, because we have the Involuntary Unemployment Assistance Insurance which will pay our (high) premiums for us while my husband looks for something else.

Don't take overseas visitor health cover (OVHC) from HCF
I took an overseas visitor health cover from HCF which was quoted for 2 months and supposed to be for short visits. HCF started debiting my account directly and by mistake I forgot to inform them after the visitors left.
HCF is not refunding over $2000 in invalid premiums that they charged after the visitors left showing some terms and conditions that you probably won't even read.

Terrible terrible, not providing membership card for 4 months
I have joined HCF for nearly 4 months and I still haven’t received the membership card. I have received their letters many times but not a membership card . 1 week after instruction I called and they said 5-8 business days and suggested I will receive it another week. I called again a week and they guarantee I will receive it in 1.5 weeks . Nearly a month since my latest instruction I still couldn’t receive the card . They keep asking me to claim on line but after reviewing many bad comments here I don’t want to risk myself not able To clam the money back. Avoid hcf If you can. They are wasting your time and money

Useless & Worst Insurance Ever!!!
HCF is the worst & most useless insurance I have came across. I pay $139/month for mid hospital mid + extras (single). Last December, I underwent a hand surgery as one my fingers was dislocated. While the total cost being circa $5,500, so called "out of pocket expenses" was circa $2,300. If you have to pay almost 50% of your operation expenses, what is the use of having a private health insurance?? The most ironic thing was, they haven't even paid an expense by X-ray images providers just because, "X-ray was taken outside normal working hours"....Read more
Does it mean that, I have to wait until the normal working hours in any emergency? They just market as "non-profit, member's fund, etc. etc. as if they are running it like a noble cause. But in reality most of "for-profit" insurance companies provide better quality service. Utterly useless & not recommending anybody to use this HCF.1 comment

Stay away from hcf
Absolutely disgusting. Have been paying a gold cover for 10 months! I already have been over charged $1300 which took me days to sort it out and make sure I get at least as a credit and now my wife (26yo) have been admitted to hospital with heart problem and they told the hospital that she wasn’t covered. ( brochure says 2 months waiting or 12 for pre existing conditions) I had to call them and spend nearly an hour on the phone to know that I have to do a hell lot of things to get her back in private as it should be! If you can, stay away from hcf!

shifts funding Responsibilities to Medicare where possible
Doesn’t cover psychology unless You have exhausted 10 sessions on a Medicare mental health plan. when you have private health cover for psychology you expect to be able to use your private cover without obtaining a doctor referral or using public funding
Also didn’t cover surgeons full cost for surgery

Not worth One Star
Poor service does not describe, just how bad HCF is. I transferred from Medibank Private because of poor phone service, and a dud App, HCF is worse. Long wait s to speak to someone ( apparently in an Asian Call Centre) numerous phone disconnects. I went to make a claim, it was denied, as Medibank had not released my details to HCF, HCF hadn't bothered to anything about it, when I joined the fund, until I complained that my claim had been denied. Over all, a frustrating, time consuming experience.
HCF App didn't work, until the 6th attempt
To make matters worse, my bank account details, were sent to me via email, for any hacker to see.

Making payments more complicated for members, Our way or the highway!!
I have been with HCF for about 6 years or more. I have always paid by internet banking. I have total control of my money. They are now suggesting 3 options, direct debit ( which is controlled by them ) phone every month to pay ( going back 15 years! ) or going into an office to pay ( great for time management) They have taken away the easier option of Bpay. These rules are for Life Insurance policy & Critical Illness Cover. I have hospital, extras & Critical Illness Cover & pay altogether. It's totally ridiculous, it's so simple now & they want to complicate it. Their letter states crap like " we save you time & hassle. Total crap!! Not happy at all. I will look at another provider.

They are just thieves. Signed up online for health cover and did not even get a copy of policy that I needed to provide to the visa officer. When asked for the copy pf policy they said that I did not choose correct health cover and the one I chose they don’t provide any copy of health cover except the welcome email. When I told them that I chose the correct cover and I don’t need to buy the one they think is the right one. And on their website it does not say that the first month is non refundable. Working Visa Health Cover
I've written a lot of emails and i called a lot of time for do the claim, nobody answers any! i mean NOBODY!!
this is illegal, they should answer and as a customer they should take an action for my claims.

HCF should be ashamed of the way they have treated my family
The past 6 months has been difficult for my family with my wife suffering some serious ill health. Exacerbating this has been the disgraceful service we have received from HCF. My wife's first procedure was in mid August. To date HCF has still not paid this claim or any of the multiple claims that followed.
I phoned HCF to clarify what I needed to do to receive payment. They said to take some particular paper work to the local branch. I took this paperwork down the next morning. The sign said the branch was open but it was not. I waited...Read more
for 30 minutes until finally someone turned up. They were unapologetic about the time I had wasted waiting. They then informed that I had the wrong paper work. I went home and rang HCF again and was told a third different thing I needed to do to make this claim. In an attempt to follow this up I rang HCF on 11/12/19 then again on 12/12/19 then again on 18/12/19 and rang back on the 18/12/19 and again on 22/12/19 and then again today on the 30/12/19. These phone calls have ranged from unhelpful to rude - today Tori told me "my bad" after she made yet another mistake. Unprofessional and uncaring. I have explained to various HCF employees multiple times the serious nature of my wife's medical situation - and have, to this point, received nothing even close to sympathy. Adam (a team leader) was particularly rude - constantly talking over the top of me; eventually saying I could "take or leave it" - referring, I think, to his offer of help? I have contacted Medicare and they have assured me that they have sent to HCF all the paperwork that HCF should require to pay the claims. But still no payment. Not a Good Start with a GP visit
I booked for a GP visit at Blacktown Doctors and Medical Centres, only to find out that not all GPs there accepts HCF visit entitlement.. Had to cancel the booking as it would cost me $375, potentially, for seeing Dr Regy Joseph, who do not accept HCF funds for seeing her.

advised smiledirect and item 825 covered by phone to HCF on 09/10. Purchased item 825 and went to claim 04/12 to be told not covered ?????? Shown internal memo from 13/09/2019 which advised no further cover for smiledirect ???? Paid $7500 in advance for 18 months of cover. If you change cover you should let people know. What a rip off. Note PDS advised Orthodontics covered for correction of teeth and jaws by orthodontist or dentist. Tick and Smiledirect you visit onsite and have scans and moulds done which are then checked by registered Aust Orthodontist or dentist. Tick. YOU GUYS SHOULD BE ASHAMED

Junk Fund! Pick another provider
HCF will change major definitions without notifying you about how that will impact your ability to claim. I had 'Major dental' and had signed up ten years ago because they covered dental implants at the time - it was the reason I went with them. I then had a family and opted to retain 'Major Dental' - What they didn't tell me is that they took out certain codes from 'their' definition of major dental and no longer covered it without telling me. They lack transparency and truth in their service and have no recognition that a member does not look...Read more
at codes - they look at plain, simple language about what is and isn't covered. When I called to complain because i was suddenly out of pocket 2500 - on the phone, they conceded that implants were major dental but were was no longer covered by any of their products. Where was my notification? My policy had continued to state that I was covered for Major Dental but they'd changed underlying codes without notification or telling me. I switched immediately when the unhelpful service officer told me there was nothing she could do about it. Watch out everyone - It basically means HCF can decide at the time what they will and will not cover you for by hiding behind a bunch of codes which they attribute to a definition and which mean nothing to actual members - and to think - I'd been paying almost 500 per month. This fund will make you sick - Their products are a swindle - Do not go with this scam - Id rate them a zero. Tell everyone how unethical and disgusting this fund is. To make matters worse - months later and they STILL haven't sent my transfer certificate to my new provider!2 comments

Very upset with how my family was treated by HCF
This all started when my lovely daughter in law was taken to hospital for an emergence appendix operation at Orange Base hospital. All procedures carried out
at this hospital was of a high standard and we had a good outcome. Very pleasing. Terrible Regional Manager with no concept of customer service
Walked into a branch and was treated with an attitude before hello. Not a friendly smile or even a firm handshake.
This is from the top Regional Manager? Clearly setting an example template for other employees to follow. Stay away from HCF there are simply other companies who care to have your business.
