Refuse to pay the claim -- Terrible company
This is the second claim for my puppy.
When we first made the claim last time, it worked very well. We sent all the documents needed to the insurance company and received the money very quickly.
However, when we made the claim this time, they needed me to resend all documents to them again. We did so. We sent them through email this time more than a week ago. But today, we received the same letter and asking for the same information again. It seems that they NEVER check their email and keep asking for the same documents that we have sent. This is RIDICULOUS!
Even we send an email to them, no one will reply your email. This is very IMPOLITE!
We are very ANGRY in dealing with this company.

Wish I Could Give Them 0 Stars!
We have been insured with Petsure for years. Our premium jumped from $40 and month to over $70 a month this year- no indication why except because "it was reviewed"? They make it quite hard to claim with onerous paperwork and frequently knocking back things for no apparent reason I can see aside from the hope you will not try again.
When I made a recent claim and they refused it- I sent in all the correct paperwork and reports and pathology reports and they are saying the access on my dogs leg after he grazed is due to a pre-existing conditi...Read more
on of dermatitis. Well, he had 1 episode of dermatitis 6 years ago, and none since, so this is obviously nuts. I think they are just relying on people not pushing for what is owed them and disputing claims. They also knocked back most of his vaccination claims as the vet vaccinated him 2 days before the year was up so he had already reached the maximum claim for that year. I am beyond angry with their poor customer service and how hard they make it. We pay the insurance - you need to pay the claims. You don't need to make it as hard as possible to do this.4 comments

I made my first claim last Tuesday through the pet portal - the money was in my account by Friday - no questions asked. 100% happy!

And this wasn't a fluke - nearly one year on, I made another substantial claim. I put the claim through the pet portal on Monday and the money was back in my account by Wednesday. No stress, no questions.

They will find a way to not pay out your claim no matter what!!!
After sending in ALL the required paper work inc adoption papers trying to make my claim I didn't hear anything from them for over a month so when I phoned to see what was going on they told me the adoption papers must have been lost and with out them they won't pay out any claims. I now can't get in touch with previous owners and can't get a copy of the adoption paper they lost. I'm now being told there's nothing they can do and to cancel my insurance with them I have to pay over $1000 in fees! An absolute waste of time and money!!!!! Not to mention the worst customer service I've ever experienced!

I have had Pet Insurance with HCF for 3 years. I have had 2 claims in that time. The first claim was reasonably small and was paid quickly with no fuss. Second claim was nearly $3000. I supplied all the paperwork from vet (diagnosis and treatments and the vet bill) but still expected to receive some follow up questions from HCF. Instead, within a week I received full payment for my claim. No fuss. No added justification required from me or the vet.

I went to cancel my policy and read their terms & conditions online explaining about refunds given depending on the date. The lady I spoke to advised she "will have to look int othe website later" and that there will be no refund. It wasnt a huge amount but thats not the point. You guys were able to claim my last direct debit for free when it WASNT your money to keep. The perfect reason for me to end my policy with you guys.

HCF Don't Do It - Rip Off!! Condemmned by ASIC Review
BEWARE OF THIS MISLEADING COMPANY
Claim rejected by HCF due to pre existing condition (which was never fully diagnosed) on the other leg from years before. They say they refused claim because it's BILATERAL!
BEWARE Underwriting done by HCF when making a claim instead of at the time of taking out the policy. ASIC has reviewed this process and condemned it. It's unfair, unjust and misleading.
Stay away from HCF
We are moving our personal health insurance away from HCF as well ASAP

Cant complain
I have had HCF Pet Insurance for my 4 dogs for over 12months now and made one large claim. Yes the process was hard has had to get vet reports etc (but all insurance companies request these and you only need to do it for the first claim). Once all the information was finally given the money came through after around a week. Which I was happy with.

In my opinion, the worst company I have ever had the misfortune to deal with
Just got off the phone after waiting 29 minutes to try to cancel the useless pet insurance I have bought. Arrogant call centre lady informs me that she is going home and that the number I had phoned was the wrong one, despite being on their website. This is after going through a massively cumbersome process to get a claim paid. Not worth the hassle, now how to cancel the policy without spending hours on the phone?...!

Very difficult to deal with. Very bureaucratic and slow.
I have been unimpressed with HCF Pet Insurance to date. I got the pet insurance for my dog as I am with HCF for health insurance. There is no online submission it all feels very dickensian in approach. No straight through processing and not all customer friendly. There are better insurers out there.

Peace of Mind
Been with HCF since Feb 2014. Had 3 claims to date, two of them quite large. Impressed they confirm receipt of claim by sending an SMS. My last claim was posted on the Monday, received confirmation SMS on the Thursday and it was paid on the Friday. I am also a member of Groodle Appreciation Society on Facebook where a lot of help and advice is given between members and the question of Pet Insurance comes up quite often. I don't hesitate to recommend HCF particularly because they seem to have the best dental cover which was important to me. Ot...Read more
her people on the Groodle site also recommend HFC and there have been no negative reports. One of my dogs was 5 yrs old when I got him from the RSPCA and he was seized not surrendered therefore his history was a bit of an unknown. Luckily the vet report from the RSPCA was he arrived there was favourable considering his previous treatment and I made sure I supplied as much documentation as possible when I lodged my first claim. They paid promptly no questions asked, I am very happy with the service received.1 comment

Extremely frustrating company to deal with :-/
I purchased a new puppy in September 2011 and decided to insure him through HCF Pet Insurance because I have been HCF Health Insurance member for many years. I took out a full policy including wellness benefit.
Lodging claims with HCF Pet Insurance appears to be cumbersome, no online facilities etc. In each of the two years I have lodged claims for wellness benefits they have been rejected but when I call or email them to ask the reason why they tell me it was an internal error and the claim was paid!
Claims also take a lengthy period of time to be paid.
Time consuming, hard to deal with

surance after HCF denied paying for our puppies accidental rat bait ingestion. Apparently this "used to be covered" by my policy but no longer is. What good is accident insurance when you can't claim for an accident? There was also no contact details on the letter for disputes or details as to why the claim was denied. Also had to pay for a full vet assessment and history before I could even submit this first claim. Very disappointing. Will definitely be looking elsewhereHCF T.HCF

Kept paying but can't get anything back
Been with HCF for three years now, have chosen their premium pet cover and though they seem to be happy enough to keep taking my fortnightly payments, I keep on getting lovely letters saying my dogs are not covered for what I'm claiming.
I thought that by buying insurance like this, my pets would be reasonably covered for vet expenses. Key word being reasonably. There was an occasion mid 2013 when one of my dogs had to have a procedure to cleanse out his ear canal because he had an infection and he had to stay at the vet's for one night. I ...Read more
was hoping he'd be covered for this, and getting a bit back even for all his medication after the procedure would have helped too but no such luck. We had to pay close to $1,000 for vet fee, overnight stay fees and antibiotics and no, apparently this is not covered in my pet insurance. Annual vaccinations are not covered either. In fact, none of the things you really need to be covered when you have a pet is covered in HCF's pet insurance. It's not worth your time having to fight to get refunded for your claims that are apparently not covered and not worth your money - indeed it's like flushing away your money in the toilet.1 comment

These reviews surprise me
i do not know what to do now i have read these reviews. i am comparing HCF pet insurance with my private health. is that the wrong way to go? HCF is $100 cheaper that pet protect for example, and HCF provides additions the others do not. a big inclusion with HCF is the fact you can name another person other than the insurer who may look after the pet in your place, for example when you are away on holidays. thank you VB melbourne

One star would be too much
I put in a claim filled out by my vet for a cruciate ligament operation. So far I have received 8 identical letters telling me that the policy "does not provide cover for the diagnosis being claimed." This is despite the site actually having a cruciate ligament Exam form. so this HCF insurance is rubbish
also other than that one identical sentence in all 8 letters there is no explanation....is the policy to recently taken, does the policy exclude certain breeds,....no explanation. !!!!!! I see the other customers think the same as me. Taking money for premiums under false pretenses.

Don't bother.
Having a policy with HCF has been the equivalent of withdrawing $70 a month for 2 years and flushing it down the toilet. Our 8yo Vizsla, one of two supposedly covered for illness related expenses by our policy had pyoderma - a skin rash caused by an allergic reaction to particular plants some 4 years ago. We disclosed this when we took out the policy and were still offered cover with no mention of any exclusions. Last October, our vet advised us to have a lump removed from the side of our dogs face as she was suspicious of it being a melanom...Read more
a. We were naive enough to think that policy covering treatment for illness would cover a potentially life threatening condition that our pet had no prior history of. Wrong. So after lodging the claim, it took 6 months of having the various vets from the different places we'd lived in the last 8 years forward the complete history to HCF multiple times - parts just mysteriously kept going missing despite the vets assuring us they'd sent it. But going by the other reviews, this isn't a problem that is unique to us. After this they respond that claim would not be paid since it is the recurrence of a prior condition affecting that. Fleas are a condition affecting the skin, so the way the contract is worded, if your vet has recommended an anti flea treatment at any stage of your pets life, they won’t be covered if they need a skin lesion excised. Don’t be under any illusions about receiving any type of payout from this policy. And to the HCF representative; you need not bother with the patronising “We’re really sorry your experience wasn’t positive” reply. I have cancelled our pet insurance policy, moved my family’s health insurance policy to a competitor and have no intention of doing business with HCF again.3 comments

Not only will I not be doing this, but I will be moving my private top cover family health insurance and will advise my friends to do the same (they have both health and pet insurance with you). HCF look for every possible reason to get out of every claim
I recently insured my dog with HCF as I have my family insured with them for medical insurance. The dog got a paralysis tick and they claimed it was not covered even though the policy includes this category. They are now arguing that My vet did not give enough details. They are extremely difficult to work with and I highly recommend avoiding HCF as an insurer. I expected better!

We have discovered my dog has spleen nodule dysplasia and the vet has given us two options. First one is monthly ultrasounds to see if nodule has grown and if it has urgent surgery is need asap or will be fatal or to have the spleen removed now. We are going to go with removal of spleen as its too risky. The surgery and two days in hospital will cost approx. $5k. Will she be covered under illness policy and do we have to pay vet bill up front

Hi, 2 questions.
1) What is the deal with a dog after 9 years? i have a puppy and have insured from the start but someone mentioned she won't be covered after 9yrs old?
2) what does "Routine" care mean and what can be claimed? Just the consultation fees for the vet? My vet "upsold me" their "special" care which means i get free consultaitons and vaccinations. but if this is already covered by my pet insurance (not the vaccinations), why would I bother with there "special" membership.
thanks

HCF T.HCF
Hi Renee,
Thanks for your questions.
To answer your first question, HCF members who sign up new pets over the age of 9 are not eligible for the illness cover. However, pets who have been insured for illness before they turn 9 years will continue to have the accidental injury and illness cover, provided there has been no break in the policy.
To answer your second question, if you have “Routine care” added to your policy, it covers set benefits as stated below:
• $50 Annual Benefit Limit for any ONE of the Following:
Desexing, Heartworm Control, Dew Claw Removal, Prescription Diets, Microchipping, Teeth Cleaning, Cremation/Burial, Council Registration Fees, Alternative Therapy
• Plus Annual Benefits for the Following:
$30 for Vaccinations or Health Checks
$10 for Heartworm Tests or Blood Screen
$10 for feLV/Fiv Tests or Urinalysis
$45 for Flea/Tick/Worm Control
I hope this information helps. If you have any other questions, please also feel free to call us on 1800 630 681.
Many thanks
Steph
