Good old fashioned personal service using current technology.
Very professional, efficient and true value for money. Having enjoyed their services for a couple of years, will confidently recommend HEALTH CARE INSURANCE. Hardly any waiting when contacting them via phone, courteous service by service providers. You won't be disappointed.

HCI, can't fault them
After decades of paying top dollar for confusing Health Insurance and often being shocked by the often lower than expected refunds, well I just lost it one day and thought "enough, I want a better deal!" I did my homework. Discovered the ethics of Not For Profit alternatives and after much research decided on HCI.
I've been with HCI for 3, close to 4 years now. Am so impressed with what they cover, HCI has never let me down from dental to preventative medicine procedures. So far I've had no serious illness where they have had to stand front...Read more
and centre but I have every confidence if that should ever happen they'd deliver as good, if not better than all the greedy, profit making health insurance piranha companies. And they are so affordable for a self funded retiree.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

HCI - They are great.
We have been with HCI for nearly 30 years and have had claims for hospital on a few occasions as well as extras on a regular basis. They have always paid promptly and without question and the customer service is great. I recently priced other funds only to find they cannot even provide a lesser cover for the amount we pay to HCI so we have no complaints at all.

HCI is there for its members, not the corporation
We were insured with Gov.Employees Health Fund, which then became Australian Heath Management, for more than 30 years. These funds were member owned not for profit with their own in house dental services & run for the benefit of the members. AHM was bought out by Medibank in 2009 and from that time onwards the in house dental practices were sold off and rates for Hospital & Extras cover increased substantially every year while the Extras benefits have been eroded away. However, we must also say that we recently made a very large Hospital claim ...Read more
and AHM + Medicare paid everything except the gap fee for the surgeons & anaesthetist. So finally, we made the effort to do the research to find a better value for money health fund. The website www.privatehealth.gov.au provided a lot of good information allowing us to compare Hospital & Extras insurance offerings. We have now gone with Health Care Insurance which is a not for profit fund set up for the benefit of members. We have selected the Premier Hospital +Premier Extras cover, which is $70/ month cheaper than AHM Top Hospital & Family Extras, while providing equivalent Hospital cover with substantially superior cover and refunds for Extras. We have submitted four claims so far & are very pleased with the service and the refunded amounts paid for each claim.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Low cost, good benefits, good service
All our claims so far have all been HICAPS paid except for an ambo membership reimbursement. The membership reimbursement was filed through their app - just had to take a picture via the app and off it went. All was with no worries and paid exactly as expected. The reimbursement only took hours! While starting with HCI I contacted them numerous times about various things. They seem to have a small staff that is very personable and personal. The premiums are fairly sharp although some of their benefits are on the lower side, but those we use and need are on the high side, so HCI works very well for us. Very happy we moved on to HCI.

HCI = Hopeless Care Insurance
About a year ago we followed Choice’s high recommendation of HCI for health cover for our family. I thought I had read the comparisons carefully enough, but on every point over the past year we have been worse off or not covered at all compared to our old funds that didn’t score as well on the Choice reviews. Previously, it was a pleasure to stand at a reception somewhere and have our old health funds cards swiped and for the person to be surprised at how generous our old funds were. These days we are used to the opposite - the receptionist pul...Read more
ling a face at how poorly HCI pays or telling us that we’re not covered at all (even though we have top hospital and top extras). The HCI customer service is like dealing with a dodgy impersonal ATM that doesn’t want to give you your money. I was recently hospitalised for emergency orthopaedic surgery on a badly broken leg. The hospital had a time of it getting the claim out of HCI. Belonging to HCI is an embarrassment. Choice may have been impressed with them but the people who deal with health funds every day find HCI a poor performer. For us it is a difficult situation because to swap funds again will affect waiting periods, but I still think we’ll look at risking that because you can’t put a price on confidence and peace of mind, which HCI doesn’t provide and doesn’t care that it doesn’t provide.Similar opinion? A Non Profit Healthcare Provider That Puts People Before profit!
Health Care Insurance being a non profit healthcare provider is the way to go! They're very transparent when it comes to costs so there won't be any nasty surprises when it counts the most. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and my experience after getting a knee operation has been extremely positive from start to finish!

HCI Health Care Insurance is the best value for money!
I decided on HCI Health Care Insurance after browsing through the private health insurance ombudsman website. I found I could compare all the health funds industry percentage statistics such as Hospital Related Charges Covered, medical services with no gap, Member Retention, etc.
I am very happy with HCI's customer service so far and would highly recommend them to anyone.
If you would like to compare policies for yourself just do a google search on "Individual Health Fund Report Cards" and click on the PHIO gov website.

I'm interested in your experience in processing of claims with HCI. Being in NSW, do they have a comprehensive list of their preferred health service providers and private hospitals?

I have not yet had to claim with HCI as I am a fairly new member myself, however my experience dealing with them over the phone has been very positive. I certainly did my homework to find them, I researched every private health insurer for several months, read reviews, compared policies, looked at all the government reports. What I like about HCI is they are not for profit, they have one of the highest retention rates, low out of pocket expenses, no trickery, they are completely honest about everything up front. They have a comprehensive Private hospital list, and the welcome pack they send you goes over everything in more detail. Their website is http://www.hciltd.com.au/hospital-search
Good luck in your decision. If you have any further questions please feel free to ask.
Go to the HCI website http://www.hciltd.com.au/ & click on Members > Hospital Search or Doctor Search or Hicaps, to find providers the have agreements with. They cover all the private hospitals in my area and some of the specialists doctors. I have used HCI to make claims through HICAPS with dentists physios etc. without any problem
