Great little device.
This little vac is very handy, a tad noisy but useful.
You need to ensure it has a clear run with no little kids toys in the way or else it gets very stuck.
It’s great to schedule everyday to tidy the floors. We mainly use it on timber floors and it works well. Carpet is not a challenge for it.
The return to dock function is very useful.

Hopeless - creates more work!!
I bought this machine just over a month ago and have had problems from the get go. I have constantly been getting a full bin indicator, when it was not full. The hair and dirt was just collecting at the opening to the bin, then dumping it on the floor.
The customer care people advised me to clean the sensor, which I did. I don't get the full bin indicator as often, but the bin still won't fill. In fact, it will barely pick up fluff or dog hair from the carpet at all! I have video of it just rolling on over clumps of fluff and just leaving it ...Read more

f iRobot in Australia, however we have recently noticed an increase in retailers importing iRobot models directly from other countries for resale in Australia - as is the case here. (perhaps the fact that it picks up SOME debris means it works in their opinion), I will have expenses to pay. They have not stipulated how much. If the technicians decide there IS a problem with the machine, they might decide it was my fault and, again, I have to pay. I have never mistreated or misused the machine - I contacted irobot within a day or two of owning it to find out what was wrong with it. I just want a refund, rather than risk paying more money for this product, but I don't see that happening. Disappointing.Malcolm R.iRobot

Not as good as the 780 in my opinion
We have multiple Labradors and my experiences have been that the 860 is not as good at picking up pet hair as the 780. Hair is often rolled into 'cigar' shapes and left behind as little deposits on the floor. Also, much of the hair and dirt does not go into the collector, but rather gets trapped between the rollers causing the full light to come on. This doesn't happen all the time but does happen regularly.

Handy and Helpful.
We are very impressed with the Roomba 860's ability to handle pet hair. Our dog sheds a lot and we use it every other day. Any hair that it can't handle, it whips into a ball for us which is easier to then pickup. It works really well on dust and dander and is great at detecting spots that need extra attention. Easy to empty and operate. It has trouble finding its was back to the dock, but it is a huge time saver in our house and we love it.

Useless Roomba from irobot!
Our Roomba worked for a while but started to stop only after 90 secondes saying to clean brush cage. Brush cage are perfectly clean! Did contact support who told me to clean sensor (thanks, I know, it's shiny!). RE-re cleaned sensor, did not fix anything. They told me to buy new brush cage....(115$) which I did (Why why why?). Did not fix anything!
Conclusion:
DO NOT BUY IROBOT
Will work fine for a while then become USELESS!
After sell service is ZERO!
They are over brands out there!

Very happy iRobot 860
I must say I am very impressed with my new iRobot 860's cleaning, quite vigorous and also the new system puts out more air at the rear. Plus it's noticeably quieter than my old 577 which has been a workhorse for several years, and still going strong.
We have some cork floor, tiled areas, and carpet - house approx 19squares. The 860 has rubber brushes which are easier to clean than the 577 model bristle ones. One thing to note is the 860 is not compatible with the series 810 virtual walls used by the earlier iRobot, and the 860 only comes...Read more
packed with one virtual wall of its own in the box when you buy it, and you do need one or two extra if open plan. I have also ordered a bulk batch of the rubber brushes and side brushes and filters for the 860 so I have enough spares into the future. I tend to set up a room, place the virtual walls and go away. When I return its docked and recharging and ready for next area. Love it does under beds, and chimes when its docked and its various signals and messages. Battery Dead After A Year
It's a pretty smart vac, but after a year of using and regular cleaning, its run time started getting shorter and shorter until one day it finally stopped working. Very sad as I like how much dust storage it has compared to other robot vacs. It is also easy to empty.

I won this in a golf tournament, I didn't think much of it but decided to give it a go, my wife loves the idea of it. It tends to get stuck down our hallway but after a quick kick it starts back up, it's very quiet.

With toddlers and pets around the house, it's always important to have a clean floor. We got ourselves a Roomba 860 and it keeps our floor spotless clean and gets rid of the fur without it getting stuck since it has got no brushes in it.Though we have to declutter first before using it, overall, it's nice.

I have had this Roomba now for almost 3 years, it is being used a lot and even with dogs and cats it is doing a brilliant job. Its Ok
I had seen lots of reviews online saying that irobot was really good. So I decided to get one. On the first few cleanings I saw that it looked a little random, but the company says that it maps the room and knows where to go. After a few months I recognised that it was indeed a random path and it missed spots. When I put a lighthouse down it seemed to guess when it was finished that room and then go through the lighthouse (missing some areas). It sometimes doesn't successfully return home and gets stuck under furniture or chews up cables, so wh...Read more
en I get home in the afternoon it hasn't cleaned my house due to getting stuck on things or running out of charge which is quite irritating. I wouldn't recommend this for large houses as it won't get the job done very well. Overall this robotic vacuum cleaner is very good with suction and will get the job done 80% of the time, it has definitely reduced the amount of times I use an upright every month!Similar opinion? My greatest help!
We have been using it for the last 4 months and it works very well! I rarely post reviews honestly, but for this, I really should! Though I reckon there are still room for improvement.
Pros - good suction and good materials. Easy to use. There are indicators on the machine which tells you what is wrong, if any.
Cons - The machine would stop automatically after each cleaning cycle. Which is about 1 - 1.5 hr from my impression. I do hope the cleaning cycle could be longer, but also understand it might be restricted by the battery life? The pr...Read more

Good - Everything I expected
This vacuum does everything I expected of it. After a Neato, which I considered useless and returned, I bought the Roomba with some trepidation. However, I have been pleasantly surprised. This vacuum battles a big house and 5 hairy dogs (don't ask), and does it pretty well. Not perfect, but hey, it saves me having to get the big vacuum out every day, and that is all I want. Would I buy another Roomba 866 if it died tomorrow? Yes.

It is light, it saves your back, it can be easily moved about room to room or you can let it loose in the whole house and it will return to base for recharging. Works well, but watch out for the hidden running costs!
This is my second Roomba and the running cost is extortion! My first was the 780 model. I ran it into the ground and then some - it refused to die! The biggest problem with the old model (and the same with the new) was the weak carry handle. It snaps after a few weeks and drops the whole robot on the ground. The 780 finally died of being dropped once to often. The first thing I did on the new 880 model was remove the handle - now it must be carried with two hands around the body which is safer and hasn't been dropped yet. Apart from this the ne...Read more
w 880 operates in a very similar fashion. The other major problem with the 880 is the cost of replacing the rubber rollers on the bottom. They get trashed way to easy by hair and other debris getting caught in the rollers or between the roller and the plastic housing. The rubber gets ripped away and leaves a bald roller. The earlier models used a bristle brush and the replacement parts were around $20 or less as cheap non-genuine parts worked equally well. The new parts on the 880 are $75 from the official website. I bought a cheap pair off ebay and they were non-genuine rubbish that didn't work. So I'm stung with paying $75 which I make last about 6 months but should really be replaced every 3 months or so! They really are too soft to be that expensive. Another problem is the new model no longer recognises it's base station and has attempted to run over it a few times and won't return to be recharged. Never had a problem with the earlier model. At first the 880 worked like normal but after a few weeks it stopped in the middle of the floor and couldn't find home. After much experimenting with new location of base and different rooms nothing works - it doesn't know where home is and if left on the floor, the Roomba runs over it and has shredded one of it's wheels. Now we remove the station when cleaning and wait for the Roomba to run flat in a room before manually placing it back on charge again. Overall - It does a great job of moving around the house and cleaning individual rooms. The twin rubber rollers work best on carpet but the old style bristle brush worked best on hard floors like tile and timber. The cost of replacing the rubbers is extortion! The problem with the base station is a major annoyance. The old 780 I recommend to everyone to buy, this new model has made me look at other manufacturers, probably the Neato or Samsung.2 comments

eaning dust from the filter - I do this without fail every time it's run. If you mean I should follow the Roomba around the house and check the rollers aren't tangled on hair or other particles while it's running - then I'm afraid the reason for buying an automated vacuum cleaner is pointless! Rest assured it is not user error - nor is the problem with my docking station user error. Yes I know how to operate the machine, I'm not an idiot. The Roomba 800 series does not clean as thoroughly on hard floors, nor as economically as the old 700 series. IRobot made a crucial error moving away from the large brushed roller for picking up debris. The motivation seems to be to reduce ongoing maintenance and annoyance of cleaning tangled hair from the brushes. But then your attempted solution and your comments on this review say the problem is mine and I need to clean the Roomba more thoroughly! Sort of defeats the purpose of switching to the all rubber rollers when the maintenance is the same and the cost of replacement of those parts is extortion! Come on iRobot wake up - this is the reason Neato is looking better every day...Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Great product, pity about service and consumer law compliance.
The roomba itself is awesome. I used to tell everyone to buy one, they won't regret it.
Now I hesitate.
11 months old, still under warranty, the spinning brush broke. 3x Harvey Norman staff and one call to the company all telling me it's not covered under warranty, it's 'a consumable'. Despite me referring to Australuan Consumer Law that a reasonable person would not expect any part to break within a year, they would not budge.
I am now in the process of referring the issue to my Territory (NT) Fair Trading office, to see what happens.
So buyer beware.

I have one. I subscribe to iRobot by email (i.e., I get ads for specials and sales regularly). They still push 600-series and now 900-series, but it seems they do not offer the 800-series machines. I am curious as to what is the explanation for them selling 600 and 900 series but never mentioning the 800 series?

That's interesting. I hadn't noticed that but will check next time I'm at Harvey Norman. You'd assume the mid range would be popular as it has much better suction and features than the cheapest one and not the $1499 price tag of the top of the range. I have recommended the Roomba 890 to so many people so I'm assuming they are still available. Couldn't live without mine.
