when you enter the new KIA Sportage (Gt Line 2.4 LT petrol) you cannot tell if the handbrake is on or not
There is no indication on the electronic switch as in a Mazda CX-5 for example
The only image is on the dash and it turns of after a short delay upon exiting the car and on return you do not know whether brake is on or not. Any ideas?

Anyone else having issues with Kia NOT updating maps when at sale point they tell you it gets freely updated for five years? The product is out of date at purchase and now they want to charge me.
1 answer
I managed (I hope - should be done tomorrow) to get one update (presumably to the new software) by complaining to service and they got sales to pay for the one update. But I think there are no more to come - will ask tomorrow.
I specifically checked when I purchased as a mate was being charged lots of money for updates on a Mazda - of course I did not get it in writing. Apart from being old the navigation is very poor - in my local area often sends me via the longest route rather than the shortest.

I have a Kia Sportage 2017 model basic model. I am going on a long holiday and will park the car in the garage. I want to disconnect the positive battery terminal. When I open the cover of the terminal I find some new type of arrangement on the positive terminal. Its not just loosenign the nut and pulling the cable up. Can someone tell me how to disconnect the positive terminal. I was told by a guy that there is something inside the car where the driver sits.
1 answer
Unless you are going on a very long holiday, i.e. a few months or more, it may be best not too as most communications/entertainment systems have a security feature that if power is disconnected they need to be reset at a dealership. Modern batteries should not deplete their charge unless the car is left for a longtime. I have left my last car for 2 months and no problems.
If you have a friend, you can get them to start the car every month and better still, drive it around the block. Better than leaving it still.

Hi, we are looking at buying a Kia Sportage 2013 2.0. We took it for a test drive and found that the acceleration was very sluggish, even after changing into 2nd and 3rd gears. It can’t be normal. The salesman said that that’s just how it is as it’s a heavy vehicle. I didn’t agree with this as it doesn’t make sense and should be powerful enough to pull that body. I did not argue with him though as I guessed that either he had no knowledge or was just be a poor salesman. We drove a 2010 Sportage before this and it was quite nippy so was expecting the same feel. Is this normal with the 2013 model? If so then definitely won’t buy this car. If not, what could be causing this and can it be fixed?

I have a 2009 model. I find it to be very nippy. I don't believe they are going to get sluggish the younger they are. :)

Kia Sportage diesel noise after turn off. Any ideas?

Maybe a mechanic, sorry.
It has something to do with diesel pump, There must be a small electric device in it that pumps fuel around the system after it is shut down. It is also used to fill the fuel filter after changing it.

Hi All
As a new 2018 Sportage GT-Line owner, I am getting my head around all the new functionality.
What has been annoying me is the setup for the warning alerts when approaching speed camera, red light camera etc. The alerts seem to be given based on distance from the camera, rather than a set number of tones. What this means is that, if you are approaching a red-light camera, and the traffic is moving slowly, or even stopped, the alert keeps going, and going, and going, until you pass the camera.
Now I know I can turn the aural alert off, but this kinda defeats the purpose of the alert in the first place. The other car in our family (CX-5) is better in that it gives 3 sequential chimes, then stops.
Anyone else found this problem with the Spirtage, and if so, what have you done to fix it?
TIA
2 answers
No sorry can’t asdist as I’ve had no problems
I've tried every setting I can think of to get rid of that annoying chime which starts some 850m from the actual speed alert.
I have everything set to visual only but driving in the country it will keep giving me speed check alerts when the speed limit is about to change from 110 to 80 or similar.
Drives me bonkers. The only thing I have found to silence it is to actually touch the alert on the screen - that will stop it.

Hi, I have a 2017 GT line love it, but two things annoy me. One can't just turn ON the passenger side AC and keeping the driver AC switched OFF(dont know if that's even possible) and second is, I want only the time to be displayed on the Nav screen when I am not using the maps. Can someone please tell me how to go about it. Too embarrassed to call the dealer for something this trivial.
Thanks.

Hi I own a kia gt and the electric handbrake is not working . I know it is under warranty but has anybody experienced this, it is a platinum 2.4 gdi 2016?

Hi, No I haven't had this problem but Kia should fix it OK. I am happy to say that when traveling NSW and arriving at Brocken Hill we heard a thump in the front right suspension. Took it to KIA dealer first thing in morning, they drop us into town, fixed it, called us then picked us up and car was perfect. The problem was a smash repairer had removed the McPherson Strut to do some panel work and then not tightened the top retainer nut correctly when reinstalling the Strut. Never had that level of service before.
I have same 2016 GT but petrol. Parking brake switch became harder to activate and dealer fixed it under warranty - no problem.
Only a gentle touch putsd the switch "on".

I've been having an issue with starting the car, whilst it sounds like it's trying to kick over, it just won't. I've had the battery tested and is reported to be fine. I've had the key batteries changes as suggested and I'm still having problems. Is this going to be an expensive repair?
4 answers
It doesn't necessarily matter if the battery is reported to be fine - it's less likely the battery ;however if the vehicle is more than 3 years old I would suggest that you buy and fit another battery first before you take the vehicle for repairs.if battery replacement doesn't work then try the starter motor and if the alternator is still alright as well then I would recommend to have the vehicle towed to a suburu service centre workshop or possibly a reasonable mechanical repairs and servicing workshop may be able to help or if the fault is within the electrics then perhaps a reasonable auto electrician workshop may be able to assist.
I also found ultratune auto service centres experts at diagnosis and repairs of faults.
thanks Brian - I will try your suggestions - much appreciated. :)

hey, I have just purchased a 2017 kia sportage gt line. Must say it is a great car to drive with lots of features..... BUT!... I think has the worst audio head unit Ive ever experienced? Very poor Fm radio reception & sound quality!!. I did take it back to dealer but they said it was fine? (don't believe they really tested it). Just wondering if anyone out there can help with this or help me with finding an after market head unit replacement that will work??. I've been looking online & there appears to be some out there but I'm worried that they won't work properly because everything is linked?..
please help?.. peter

Peter, you might have to contact the dealer and they should be able to re-boot this. We have a 7 year warranty right so hopefully there should not be any issues rectifying this with them. So far so good for my 2016. I do however use my phone for music via Bluetooth so try this and see if it's any different.
How is other content? if it's only FM reception i wonder if the aerial is not connected properly (think its the sharkfin on the roof but all the same would require connection). worth checking if your phone streams perfectly then likely aerial.

Hi everyone. I have had my Kia GT 2017 diesel for 3 months now. I love the Kia Sportage this being my second Sportage purchase. However I have noticed that the speaker volume through the audio is terribly low compared to the previous model. When using Apple car play or Bluetooth I can turn the volume up to maximum and the sound is low and dull. Whereas the radio is very loud. It feels like there is a different volume level or car play and Bluetooth compared to the radio. Does anyone know what the problem is or have experienced it themselves?
4 answers
Ensure your mobile phone media volume is turned up to the highest setting. Some mobiles have the sound setting set at about 1/2 volume to protect your ears from damage when using headphones or earpieces.
Thanks. I have ensured already that the volume on the iPhone is turned up full. The issue is as soon as I link to Bluetooth or car play the volume is half as loud as the radio. I think it might be a software problem in the car but seeking if others have the same issue.
hey,, I just got a gt line sportage 2 weeks ago & I to love this car but I have to say it has the shitest head unit I ever experienced.. Fm reception is poor & sound quality is ordinary at best and unfortunately no DAB??. Using Bluetooth or usb stick is better but for a top of the line model I would have expected something much better. It is doing my head in. I have taken it back to service but they just said it was fine???,i Don't believe they even took it for a drive to see how it sounded.. I am currently looking for options to replace the head unit but it is proving difficult.. To answer your question,,, it is simply a crap head unit with poor user functions..regards Peter

I have noticed on my Head Unit that only some radio stations will display information like station name and track playing. If it is displaying it will be located in the middle of the screen in a box with an orange border.

The EPB on my 2016 Kia Sportage does not work. The lever/switch does not apply the hand brake and there is no indication on the control panel that the hand brake has been applied. In park the car still moves slightly to indicate thjere isa no park brake and in neutral the car rolls if it is on a slope. What is the solution to the problem?

Get it fixed by your dealer.

How do you get the radio to start at a sensible/low volume? (have tried the default settings...)

There are some issues with the radio. I find that the volume for the radio is different to the phone and the ipod and I am continually having to adjust. Don't have an answer yet but will take a look tonight and report back.
