Great little genset
I have now owned this genset for six years. It does not undertake a huge workload, but probably typical of a lot of these smaller units. I was a little reluctant to buy it originally because of the "made in China" on the label, but it appeared to be pretty well made. It has been completely reliable, starts easily and runs quietly. For my usage, there would be no advantage spending a lot more money for the name brands. I can't comment on parts availability as I have not needed a single part. I would certainly buy another Kipor.
Purchased in January 2021.

Absolutely rubbish
Used for 15 minutes and now won’t work. Out of warranty. Bought new and Stored in garage and went to use it and inverter needs replacing. $650 to replace, and even the service man said throw it away. Not happy and total waste of money. Do not waste your money on this.

This thing essentially saved my life, and hasn't missed a beat since I bought it
I bought my 2600watt kipor in 2011 when I bought my 21foot caravan, after using it with the van 6 times over the space of three years it sat in the corner of my shed for 3 years as I hadn't had the opportunity to take my van anywhere in that time and was only used for small jobs on the property where I live when I needed to power a small angle grinder to do some small tasks away from the mains power, but at the beginning of 2017 when cyclone Debbie knocked my mains power out for over two weeks and cut me off from any towns for over a week it w...Read more
as all I had to save any foodstuffs from spoiling so I had food to live on and comfort in the van while waiting for roads to be opened as well as providing power to the water pump for the tank water I rely on where I live, meaning having the luxury of being able to shower and use a toilet, I do intend to upgrade to a 5kva redback when I am ready to use my van again for the convenience of the increased power that model provides but for its size and reliability I can't fault the kiporSimilar opinion? No more Kipor gensets for me
I have had two of the smaller 700W Kipor which went every night for just over twelve months and then died for no apparent reason. Sold them for parts though. They were OK for TV and lights and didn't bother the modem, but useless for power tools, so I upgraded to this one. It died in two months so it went back to Bunnings for a refund and I finally abandoned Kipor in favour of Ryobi. The Ryobi genset is going strong after three years and does power tools and pumping with ease.

Does the job
Had this 6 years and the only trouble I had was the carbs had to be replaced due to leaving fuel in it when stored. (very cheap online for new carry.
Otherwise great for the price if you maintain it as per the manufactures instructions .Big thumbs up from me.

unreliable
Had it for 6 years, minimal usage but problem with carby ( pulled carby apart and complete clean and reassemble) stiil no go when needed on recent trip, replaced with Yamaha, expensive lesson but over the moon with Yammy. Good for building up biceps when it was operational, very hard to start.

Cannot do without it.
We purchased our GS2600 some 7 years ago. It has performed beyond expectations. We use it regularly motorhoming. I found it blew a little smoke till I changed to Honda Genset oil. Regular oil changes and operating it on a dirt free pad, board or shade cloth keeps it clean. An excellent piece of kit we cannot do without.

Trouble with starting
Accidentally found that the inner plastic shroud around the motor was the main problem in starting the generator. Where the spacer block between the head and the carburetor fit to the head. Upon removing this spacer and the gasket, I found that the hole in inner plastic shroud around the motor was not large enough to allow the gasket and spacer to fit snugly on the side of the inlet port. After cutting this shroud back to allow these items to fit neatly against the head and tightening the carburetor back in place, the generator started on th...Read more
e second pull. Never did that before. Still having problems as the motor surges continually. Have checked the float and the level along with a complete clean of the fuel system, but hasn't solved the problem of surging. Suspect the load controller on the top of the carbie could be faulty. Just have to find a supplier so that I can fit a new one and hope that it solves the problem. Only used it about three times and have had to pull my guts out to start the bloody thing.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Does what i need it to do.
I purchased this Genset from Bunnings... last one (display model) before we were due to get a cyclone almost 2 years ago (turned out it crossed the coast north of Rockhampton not Bundaberg... lucky us) I bought it simply because we live on a rural block and as such do not have town water - only tank. As the tanks are below the house when the power goes out, so does the water. 2600watts(peak) is plenty to run the pump although it struggles for a brief moment as the pump draws a huge amount of current at startup (similar to a fridge or an aircon)...Read more
There are a lot of negative reviews regarding this item, but like anything it must be maintained. Mine is run a least once a month with a moderate load for 20 or so minutes ( i run an old 1200 watt bar heater) Every 3 or so months the fuel is drained from the tank and the carbi bowl and fresh fuel added. Also, just because it says 2600 does not mean that it can be run at 2600 watts on a continual basis. 2600watts is its "momentary" wattage. I would expect this machine would happily chug along at 1900w or 2000w for most of the day.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Great and comparable with Honda
Have owned my 2600 for at least six years now and has been a GEM since new!! I thought it may have had a dicky choke but I discovered it was me not engaging it properly. I have nothing but praise for it and as I write this it is running as we are caravanning full time atm. The only improvement I could make is for the manufacturers to develop a fixing down kit ie: for generator boxes on caravans and a exhaust extension kit to direct the exhaust gasses out of the gennie box!!
Nothing but 5 stars from me!!

The worst investment I ever made
Brand New. First one never made it at all. They eventually gave us a new one apart from being the worst thing to start had less than 20lts of fuel through it over the last 3yrs. Tried to start it no go took it to the experts pull cord broke, 1st pull has happened before new carby but still no go could rave about this piece of crud forever and will badmouth them wherever l go ( am now on the road indefinitely so will spread the word) CHEERS Chas

The worst bloody thing I've ever bought!
From the time I purchased a Kipor it has been hard to start. I've used it three times, had it serviced once as well. They have a VERY dodgey on/off switch making it impossible to start unless you pull the knob off switch to toggle the switch manually. Looked after it like a baby, daring all fuel before storing, kept clean and guess what... It won't start to take away camping. A bloody waste of money so AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE. Buy a Honda!!!

Disappointed with Product
Purchased the GS2600 in December 2012. Used the product 6 times in 2 years before the trouble started. I thought it may have been dirty fuel. Cleaned the fuel filter, changed the fuel and spark plug, no compression. Rang Kipor to find agent in 2 states, no success. Spoke with a former distributer. They advised probably valve damage. Very disappointed with the product and service.

Caught fire the first time it was actually needed
I ran my GS2600 for the required 20 hours to run it in, and then about once a year to test it. Today, a few years later, was the first time it was required to do what it was bought for - to be a backup for a power outage. It ran for about ten minutes, then caught fire. Fortunately, I have a fire extinguisher. After it had cooled down I pulled it apart. The wiring behind the sockets is all melted, and something seems to have turned to carbon there. What shocked me was the realisation that the tube carrying petrol from the tank passes through tha...Read more
t area. If the generator had run a bit longer, or I'd been slower with the extinguisher, we could have had a petrol fed fire on our hands. This generator won't be repaired, even if it can be, and I'm certainly not going to get another one.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Inverter stuffed 2 hours run time 3 years old and a $620 quote
As far as generators go ..... I would not buy a Kipor, as I have run my GS2600 every few months for a few minutes just to keep the fuel fresh it would have done about 2 hours work in 3 years only have plugged a Dewalt 600watt drill and the inverter packed it in and the quote to fix $620 ... what a waste of money ..

Kipor Generator
I cautiously purchased this generator secondhand after some research on the brand.
Kipor comes out of China running an OHV 170cc petrol engine & a Chinese inverter.
Being a mechanic I was skeptical of the quality. I spoke to the local agent about any problems & got some satisfaction.
There seems to be three main issues with these machines, firstly the kill switch which controls the spark & the fuel solenoid in the carby is a micro switch situated low on the casing.
This switch can get sand in it if the generator is sitting on a beach o...Read more
r on a sandy area. Being a micro switch it only takes one grain of sand to stop it, so put the generator on a board maybe. Secondly, the inverters can burn out, this is mostly due to overloading the inverter. So run it under capacity where possible. (It does have an overload cut out but they can still give problems) Thirdly, the service agent I spoke to said he'd never had an engine apart, they don't give many problems.Similar opinion? Kipor GS2600
We use a Kipor GS2600 on our farm as the main domestic power supply for about 2 years now. When we're there It runs all day every day rain, hail or shine and hasn't missed a beat. It sits out in the rain and we don't really treat it very well. If it was a child we would be arrested for neglect, but like a Labrador, it just keeps on loving us back, despite everything we throw at it. Starts like the day we bought it.
Does what we want with zero fuss
No cons, reasonably quiet, reasonably good on fuel

Just want to know if anyone has had trouble with the generator starting and running for 2 seconds and then stopping ?
1 answer
No, I have not had that problem in the seven years I have owned mine. Sounds like it is running out of fuel. Perhaps try running it with the fuel cap off to make sure the vent in the fuel cap is working.
Ashley S.asked
Has anyone had problems with it starting them flooding and pushing heaps of fuel out into the air filter have a brand new carby just fitted and still doing it ?
1 answer
Sorry Ashley S, I can't help. Mine has always started and run fine. Certainly sounds like a carburettor issue but if you have fitted a new one, I don't know what else could be causing it.

The overload light comes on straight away before even plugged into any thing, it’s had about 1 hours use in ts life
1 answer
Hi Debra mine was a little different the overload light came on when plugged in. It would happen straight away. I was told inverter. If not used very often the inverter would fail. The price I was told to replace the inventor outweigh the generator. So disappointed as it was like new. Ended up buying a Honda 2. Good luck
