Good car for driving long distances but problems with transmission computer
I bought this car new in 2011, overall it's been a good car, I drive on the M5 everyday to and from work so it's been good for long distances and therefore I've clocked a lot of kilometres. In the last couple of years the main problem has been the transmission computer. I've needed to have it replaced once 18 months ago and now a second time just this week. I've been told that this is a common problem with Mazda 3s. I like this car because of the power in accelerating on motorways but I am tossing up whether I really want to buy another Mazda. ...Read more
The other thing about Mazda is I have found their servicing costs have been quite expensive which is why I switched to NRMA for servicing costs - not sure if other car brands have extreme costs in servicing. By the way - not sure what the size of the engine is...?Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Good car but my parents complained about an issue under warranty and never fixed.
Blinkers at times don't switch off alternates from one to the other I personally drove it in Sydney yesterday to take my mother to a doctor's appointment .I had to stop in the emergency breakdown lane as i didn't know what the he'll was going on .It happened 3 times mum just said flick it forward to stop it .This shouldn't be like This it can cause serious accident and also confuse the person behind .Lucky my parents live in a little village and the car don't get out much However the point is it shouldn't be like This and should have been fixed. This was reported under warranty to Singleton Mazda to fix who didn't fix it and now they have no record . VERY POOR FOR A QUALITY AND BRAND NEW CAR AT THE TIME.

a great reliable car
We purchased the Mazda 3 as it had good reviews for reliability and safety. It runs well and is a good for fuel consumption. It feels solid and is easy to drive with good brakes and gear change is smooth for an automatic. I would rate this car. It is a 2010 model however works well.

Mazda 3 MPS
Owned my Mazda 3 MPS for 2 years. At the time, it was 5 years old. 20,000km driven.
Interior: Impressive for its time, it was leagues ahead of the WRX, at the time of sale in 2017, it was holding up well. Screen is a little small at approx 3", but it was usable, even to the point of displaying GPS. Seats were trimed in leather, but seat bosters did little in the corners to keep you in the seat. Good quality, plastics a little hard, lighting was above average.
Exterior: large bonnet scoop, aggressive curves, hatch back, dual 2.5" exhausts fr...Read more

Ideal First Car
Bought this car from a lovely couple in 2017 with 72000km indicated. Did not come with logbook however I do believe it was serviced regularly under government plan for health care workers.
The car is truly a gem to drive. The steering is light (perhaps too light for some) but feels great and while it does tend to understeer (like most FWD cars) it doesn't mind being pushed a little harder into corners.
The engine is fine, perhaps a little underpowered but seems about right for a 2.0L. The saving grace is the sub 1300kg kerb weight that make...Read more

Great little car to zip around town
The driving experience has been fantastic. Great handling. Good acceleration - though if placing the peddle down hard, does take an ever so small moment to kick back a gear.
The road noise is as expected for a small/medium car.
Controls are easy to use with the functionality of connected the mobile phone also easy to use - using an android device.
Everything you need to control whilst driving is at your fingertips - the climate controls are easy to access without taking your eyes off the road.

Great car based on my budget bu t...
After driving a Daewoo Nubira 1999 for years, this second-hand Mazda 3 was a great upgrade. It drives much more smoothly and handling is perfect. You've got heaps of space inside. Seats are comfy. Fuel consumption is a bit high: 0.10L per km. Overall, very happy with my purchase, just have some downsides:
1) Nowadays, CDs are rarely used so instead of a big CD player I preferred an mp3 player.
2) It doesn't have Bluetooth system for phone calls.
3) Most importantly, the other day I noticed that while driving in rain it starts leaking inside from the driver's side both from the ceiling and under the carpet. I need to get it fixed ASAP in order to prevent any damage.

Best hatch
Owned this car for 5 years now, my wife and I love it. Enough for a small family. Very economical, has power. Nice and smooth to drive. Excellent steering, people complain about noisy steering. This is due to electronic steering system. In affordable price range. Has great audio system. Stylish interior. Very reliable. Mazda has been my favourite manufacturer since the rotary engine, they have really steped up their game with new models.

Easy to drive and move
It's a great car to drive and I've had no mechanical issues with it since first purchased in 2012. When large passengers are sitting up front it can seem a bit cramped but the advantage of having a small car in the city beats that minor and relatively infrequent issue

Has never let me down - I love this car
The Mazda 3 is my perfect car. This is my 2nd Mazda 3. Very good value for money. The car handles brilliantly, I love the cruise control on those long trips. The engine is very quiet and is very zippy for around the city. I always feel safe in my Mazda 3, not particularly because of airbags, more so the handling. I always feel connected to the road in my Mazda 3. My car is 8 years old now, and I have only ever replaced the battery. I think that is a very reliable car. Of course I have looked after the car and completed all the required ser...Read more
vices. I have looked after the car and the car has been very good for me. I fill the petrol tank once every two weeks, so it is a very economical car to run. Nothing I would really change on the car, of course a newer car would have bluetooth connectivity and other features however for a car of its age, and the amount of KLM on the clock, I am very happy to keep it for a couple of more years.,Similar opinion? Love my Mazda 3 since day I purchased it
The Mazda 3 is perfect for a family, with plenty of room, drives great for the price range and has all the features the average driver needs. My mazda has done 71000 ks with no problems and is brilliant on fuel getting about 750 kms out of full tank. Love the fact you can fold the seats down to make it into a station wagon style to fit more in. Sound system is a lot better than the mazda 2 and the feel inside is that of a compact all you need bigger than the normal small car. The only thing I could fault is 2nd gear can be a bit tricky and can sometimes grind if you dont get it right. I have been driving manuals for 30 years and it must be the roughest to get 2nd gear I have driven. But the positives out weigh this though

Best base model available across all brands, but a little rough around the edges
Purchased this vehicle due to planning a family. I wanted reliability, safety and some extra features like Bluetooth, cruise control etc. Was cheaper than the hyundai i20, and holden cruze, better than the Lancer and ford focus. Subaru imprezza and Honda civic not available at the time. Kia cerato worth a mention (if not just for the 7 yr unlimited km warranty) but the base model was lacking additional extras.
I definately got what i wanted but there could have been some improvements. I have had no accidents, it is very reliable, and starts fi...Read more

Love it
Driving exspeirience is good could be better kinda difficult to see in blinds spot but all other great, i love the interior more than the new models flows much better and with the dash and centre console and love the vents because of the amount of angles you can choose pretty much no limit and the screens for the head unit are nicely placed on the dash in view so can look and keep eyes on the road, the car has never skipped a beat even though i have a custom sound system installed (previous sound system was really good for the neo model) Fuel is really good usually get around 600-650km on a fuel tank. All round awesome car some noise on long trips that get annoying but all cars at that speed will give you that noise and handles awesome.

Fast but thirsty
Great car to drive, the car sticks to the road and handles like a larger car, I have now owned this 2o13 model for 2.5years, love driving it but have noticed lately that the seats are making my bum sore, simply too hard never had this with any car. This car takes off like a race car, but use 7.5-8 l/ 100km, even when driven sensible and could have done with a 6th gear ( guess the later models have). The handle of the car is great, the steering is much better than Toyota Corolla, when u drive a Corolla u have to be careful not to jump Lanes on ...Read more
the freeway as the steering is too touchy. The Bluetooth isn't great and at times doesn't work. I'm 180cm and have the seat all the way back, if you are over 6foot you would struggle. The car has never needed any repair. I'm due for tires but haven't changed the brakes yet. Amazing well balanced car, never slipped in the wet and can really move when pushed. just need softer seats.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great little car!
I have a Mazda 3 mps meaning it's the Mazda performance series with the 2.3 turbo motor. The car has plenty of power for its size and it's awesome fun to drive everyday. The dash has started to melt over time and I believe it's a common problem for this model

Never misses a beat!
This car was the best thing we have ever purchased. We have never had a problem with it, its smooth, comfortable and I love driving around in it. Its not too small and its big enough to fit your shopping or suitcases. Would recommend for a single or family car.

Not comfortable car seats
I have 2010 model and the car seats are horrible, made me sick to drive and to sit as a passenger. Sit for more than 20 minutes got me neck pain and nausea.
The headrest is not comfortable, way too move forward and the location of the steering wheel is obstructing the dashboard to see the km.
I have an old 2006 Honda jazz and this car serves me better than the newer 2010 mazda 3.
I have also driven (1999 I think) Mitsubishi mirage hatchback and that car seats are much better than mazda 3 too.
I know Mazda needs to make a safety car, but with sacrificing passenger convenience definitely a not way to go moving forward...

Great car! but not great fuel efficiency
2.0L engine and performance very well. Manual transmission, suppose to be more fuel efficient? But this isn't quite the case as compared to same sized cars, eg. Toyota. However, it is much more spacious than other brands of similar sized cars. I have a hatch back and the seats folds easily to create a lot more space. Everything else is fine, it has everything you need, quality of make is really good! Purchased it second-hand and have been driving it for more than 3 years, never had any issues.

Just great enough for the price.
It got a 2.0L engine and performance very well. Manumatic transmission, it would have a small issue when you keep using manual. The handle may stuck there and you may feeling something was stuck in the transmission. Sent it back to the factory and fixed it once, but the problem came up again. The mechanic told me that is the common issue with Mazda. Yeah... And it is a bit noisy on freeway, generally, it is quiet enough.
Everything is good, according to the price. And the plastic dashboard did not appeal to be cheap.
Drove for more than 5 years, never have major issues, and 8.7 L/100km, so it is still affordable.

What would cause the power steering pump to fail in a one owner 2012 Mazda skyactiv luxury sedan, which has driven less than 19,000 kms. This vehicle has had all appropriate services. The cost of the pump was prohibitively expensive at over $1500 plus labour.
2 answers
Hydraulic power steering fluid can leak from worn or damaged hoses and failing seals. When enough fluid is lost, the power steering pump can overheat or wear out prematurely, resulting in a loss of hydraulic pressure and failure of the power steering system.
This vehicle was recently serviced and still had the power steering pump failure. I realise it is a 7 year old vehicle but has not done more than 19,000kms. Mazda Australia was not interested though I've read on forums that there has been problems with power steering in the past. We also needed a new battery at over $300 for the I-stop feature, which only ever works if the battery has 100% charge. Then the 80,000 km service. It was a very expensive week all up! Disappointed in Mazda!
Thank you for your answer!

I currently have a 2008 Mazda 3 Neo Sport. Absolutely love my car but after 5 years ( of perfect running) I'm feeling the need for an upgrade. I'm looking at a 2012 Mazda SP25, with leather seats, sunroof etc, all the goodies. Anything I should be looking out forin this model? My current Mazda hasn't skipped a beat, even with lots of k' s put on the clock every year. Cheers
