Good value all rounder
Suits my needs for light off road and dirt road use as well as trailer towing. The 4WD lock mode gets used a lot anytime i need grip and does not drop out above 40kmh like most competitors do. Replacing the original tyres with D694 Duelers has transformed this vehicle. The aquaplaning, bitumen and dirt grip are very confident. The ride is now far less "thumpy" it is much quieter on coarse bitumen and dirt and is less "darty". Some slight "tramlining" and tread whine at low speeds the only negative. Fuel consumption highway and freeway typically 8 ...Read more
liters per 100km, rising to 10 on the dirt or city stop start or lots cold short starts (with the 2.4 petrol cvt auto). Super smooth to drive, 15k between services, no problems so far at 30k Honest value for money car, well engineered and made in Japan so is put together well. I dont need a 4wd but need the grip for safety in the wet and when towing or on dirt roads, so its better than a rear wheel drive car in that respect, at around the same price . Very compact with excellent turning circle, easy to park, feels smaller than it really is, always get into a parking spot first turn in and rarely have to do a 3 point turn Would be nice to have a full size integrated spare tyre . Current 5 seat Australian model does, but this affects rear departure angle as it drops down quite low and has a very flimsy dress cover . They could have designed it better in this regard as this car just loves dirt roads .I take a whole spare wheel and repair kit / compressor in the back along with recovery gear if going any distance away from towns as the space saver spare supplied is limited to about 30 kilometers total travel.2 comments
Oh and one big problem with the Outlander, this series anyway - you can not sleep in the back with the tailgate closed - its only 1650mm .However the workaround is a 4 x 3 meter tarp and ropes to 2 t... Read more
ent poles and tied back to the standard roof rails so it overlaps the rear windows . Then use a king size fitted sheet to go over the upper and lower tailgates .Hold the sides in place to the struts with some strong plastic spring clamps. You can easily enter from the side and then clamp in place or through a back door. This gives you a waterproof and mozzie proof instant camper with no condensation problems as the sheet breathes .You can also open the back windows for flow through venting - but will this will allow mossies in.Duringt eh day the sheet is removed and the bottom tailgate is a seat or somewhere to cook.1-2 night camping trips are pure bliss with a 5 minute setup and teardown even in the wet - no problems .

I researched this purchase for months and don't regret it for a moment. My husband is a car dealer (not Mitsubishi) and so I have driven a lot of cars and I can't beat this car for value for money.
I have a 2010 Outlander XLS. I love it and don't really have a bad word to say about it. The previous review says the car is terribly under-powered but I strongly disagree. I have gone from a 6 cylinder sedan and find this car has more than enough power. It does buzz a bit when pushed but that is normal for a 4 cylinder engine. I've driven my p...Read more

Test drive the Outlander 2.4L RX model last week (LS model with extras). I was all hyped about the Outlander, did my research, was very impressed with the cargo space as we have a baby about 9 months old. We needed the extra room for pram and all the baby stuff. Being 2.4L, 125KW @ 6000rpm, it was a gutless vehicle, it struggled to accelerate from standing still. I understand being a 4wd, it was not meant to run like a race car, but occasionally I may have to accelerate pulling out to a busy road. The engine sounds terrible, buzz like a bee...Read more
as it struggle to pick up pace. I also tried the CVT (manually shifting the gear) on an occasion, it did the same as above. I mentioned this to the sales person, all he suggested playing with the gear trying to suse out individual driving behaviour. He said if I could see pass this, then it is a great car. In my opinion, the engine noise is going to annoy me as well as 125kw of what? A joke! The power to weight ratio is way off the mark!! I drove the 2.4L Rav 4 CV 125kw @ 6000rpm, same power and more grunt, engine is smooth as. Its Toyota, you know you're getting Quality. Great cargo space, Comfortable ride and Good Vision. Excellent second row legroom and headroom. Gutless for 4 cyl, Engine buzz like a bee when putting the foot down.

You must have been driving an Outlander with a problem. Really! I can't believe 125kW isn't enough for any non-sociopathic driver.

med very well and it had done 97000km! I have 39 years experience and an automotive trade qualification as well and if the odometer had read 9700 I would have believed it! No sign of any mechanical wear at all. A few stone chips and some luggage space damage is all that was evident.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Small family SUV
If you have two or fewer children, and plan to never have any more, and you are in the market for an SUV, don't bother to read the rest of this review. Just go out and buy one and you will love it.
It's easy to get in and out of, the cabin space is good for the size of the vehicle, the seating is quite comfortable and the one touch tumble away function on the rear seating is a god send when you have your hands full.
The engine could be a bit perkier and the off road credentials are seriously lacking, but for the target buyer - young couples with few to no kids - it's ideal.
Space, car like handling, one-touch tumble down seats
Engine not particularly powerful.

Value for money this vehicle beats the competition in other SUV's to date. I like to drive my cars not just chug around and it handles so well for it's class. The V6 purrs ( great sound) is responsive and for it's weight and size fuel economy is great. V6 does require 95 octane fuel but its worth it. Great family car with loads of space and feels safe, the 2wd, AWD to 4wd lock function is excellent. I totally recommend this vehicle with the peace of mind of the great warranty, only next time I'm going to get the luxury ASX model with all the be...Read more
lls and whistles. Even more fun! Interior styling better than Toyota Camry's. Similar dimensions to Camry except more height but still corners really well. Easiest SUV to drive than all I test drove including Tiguan and Rav 4. Less bounce drives more like a Car. Great turning circle. Best rear cargo space. Mitsubishi roof bars excellent and easy to get on/off. Lot of car for the money. V6 engine very responsive and smooth, I have been in sales for many years, driven dozens of different vehicles and in over five countries and this car is probably the best of them all. A very few minor improvements and it would be 5.5 stars for me. Great highway fuel economy, 6 speed gearbox purrs and got to love the gear paddles! Fun or what! Great room comfortable seats, safety and side air bags, I could go on, make sure you check this SUV out if you're in the market for a family SUV that's not the size of a small bus and drives more like a Camry Wagon but with more pazzaz! Nothing major can live with all of these. 1.Slightly sub standard materials on roof lining, marks so easily just have to look at it! 2. Interior plastics in VR model are hard and scuff and mark easily.3. When accelerating hard to overtake the engine revs very loud meaning it's best to paddle down a gear or two to avoid the crescendo.4.Nose styling too 'pointy' compared to the rest of the vehicle, they did a better job on the new ASX, looks very nice and would totally suit the Outlander.Similar opinion? Very Happy with my VRX 7 seat Outlander, kids love the rear entertainment. Rear jump seats though not padded provides extra space for those 'emergency' hauling kids service. Driving dynamics very good for a vehicle this size and the safety of ASC and traction control w/ 4 channel ABS. 6 speed tranny also a gem. And Rockford Fosgate sound system reaaly rocks. It would take a while before I'll replace this great all rounder (probably until a new model upgrade comes in)

We bought the basic 5 seat LS 4 cylinder 07 model in the end because it had all that we wanted at a great price. We particularly wanted the curtain airbags for our two little boys which it offered and the fuel efficiency and 4wd capabilities. We got a fantastic deal from Justin at Morley Mitsubishi (Perth) when other dealers wouldn't come to the table with a good deal and some were just down right rude!
I would buy this car again without any hesitation. Thanks Justin!

Love that car! There are picky little things I dont like but overall SO practical.
I have a 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander Activ Manual. I just love it with two kids everything fits in the boot & still plenty of leg room with the rear sliding seats. It is roomy, easy to park and has great visibility. The Activ model has all the bells and whistles that I could possibly need except for side airbags. Feel guilty about that but bought it at 13,000kms so had no choice. Really they should be standard on all cars made in recent years. If I had my choice from the start would probably go for a V6 because the fuel consumption would be very...Read more
similar in the regional area I live in and it would have more power going up the freeway with the air cond on! Other reviews I read talked about the 7 seat version being disappointing but in a mid sized car like the Outlander they would take up any existing room leaving everyone a little squashed and no boot room left. If it was a taxi going short distances then it would be worth considering. Overall a smart looking car that is very practical. The boot room and drop down tail gate (except when the tow bar is on). Seats are comfy but it would have been nice to have lumbar support. Great turning circle and love all the cupholders and compartments. Cant complain at the length of the warranty either! I have upgrade in size from a Mazda3 but not quality. Even though I love this car you can notice the difference in quality. The doors do not have that solid thud sound, the interior roof marks very easily as there is a lot of plastic trim on the doors which marks easily as well. I read another review about the Yokohama Geolander factory tyres and I agree, they wear far too easily considering I got 60,000kms from the previous Bridgestones. As mentioned side airbags should be standard. It has MP3 conection but cannot work out why the connection is on the floor at the rear of the centre console - weird! It is a bit gutless for a 2.4l engine. The Mazda3 was a 2 litre and even though it was a smaller car, the Outlander is gutless going up the freeway especially with the Air Cond on. The 'ding ding' on start up is annoying everytime until you put your seatbelt on.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

I’ve had 3 Outlanders and loved them all, but I do wish Mitsubishi would stop changing the range of Outlander as often as their underpants!! On average the range changes every year or even less, which means if you buy a new Outlander your resale value will be useless in a no time at all. The Outlanders are very well equipped with an easy to use ‘dial up’ 4x2, 4x4 or 4x4 lock mode, great off road and the 4cyl is good on juice, but if you are not going too far and a few extra dollars at the fuel pump won’t hurt the wallet go the 3.0litre V6, a su...Read more
per sweet engine with loads of grunt, the VRX model is very well equipped but the low profile tyres make for a hard nice ride, best go for the VR model which has a wider tyre wall and less noise off the road Well priced, good off roader Change line up every 2 seconds, resulting in poor money back when you sell onSimilar opinion? So happy we upgraded, never had a problem with mitsubishi they make great long lasting cars. Will buy another one when we down grade as the kids get older.
Great car, cheap on fuel and handles greenmount hill very well.Only $60 to fill it and lasts me a week.We bought 2009 model and had the extra seats put in,still plenty of room.Love cruise control and all the cup holders.Still have 4 years new car warranty.
Being a black car it does show the dirt more but that would be with any car.The hook for baby seat hard to connect to but it is out of the way so as long as you don't have to remove too often it's not a huge problem.

I was a loyal Subaru driver but i think mitsubishi have blown subaru away in the SUV class of car. My outlander is not as much fun to drive as a subi, and isnt as good looking as a mazda, but she just cruises and gets on with the job of being a practical functional family car. I am keen to take her offroad and have been told by friends with the 4 cylinder version that they go alright in the dunes and on the beach.

I have a VRX model Great package would recommend it to anyone am surprised it doesn't get more write up in car mags but i suppose Mitsubishi doesn't pay money to the mags to get the write ups like Ford, Mazda, Toyota and Subaru.
The most reliable car i have ever had or have heard from anyone. 3 yr old 140,000 km and not 1 thing wrong. I have worked it hard handles excellent long trips with my daughter been to Adelaide when temps were in the high 40's even topped 50 deg Outside on the drive back to Melbourne.
Disappointed i had to choose between rear DVD or Sunroof when buying new but new models come with both in VRX or Luxuary model. Paint work does chip a little to easy as i have been a detailer in the past.

We bought the Outlander after test driving plenty of other small SUV type vehicles (Rav4, Forrester, X-trail, Grand Vitara) and we liked it the best for comfort and ease of use. Great on the highway and also takes the bumpy stuff like a pro. I love it!
Looks great, fuel efficient, safety features +, heaps of car/features for your money, rear seats have recline function, buttons in the boot enable one touch auto seat fold, compact car but plenty of interior space, climate control, static lock seat belts - great for child restraints, spilt boot door for easy stowage, excellent off road/4WD
Plastic on the interior scuffs easily, seats are a bit hard on long trips - could be softer.

We've had this car for 6 months and have not had any problems. We compared it to the Hyundai Tuscon and found that for a few extra thousand, it was definitely worth it - the outlander is in a class of it's own.
We have the 2009 Outlander and love it. It drives beautifully and once you get used to the size, it is easy to manouvre. We have only had a car for around 1month and love it, looked around at a lot of cars and this really had everything we needed and for the price we wanted to pay. Very easy to drive and so comfortable. I fully support the Bluetooth phone system and think all cars should have this as you are not taking your eyes of the road when answering or making needed calls whilst driving so safe.
Space, Bluetooth phone is an excellent option so easy to use and find it very safe to use whilst driving.
The noise while the roof racks are on but they are easily to remove when not needed. So no Cons really
