Good car second hand
This is my second Mitsubishi Outlander, first one was written off. I find for the price and was you can get it is a very good car.
People say the 2.4L is a little underpowered but I don't really find this unless the aircon is on. Plenty of room when you fold the seats down, the interior is a little on the cheaper side, but I suspect it's like this because it's easier to clean.
Air-con is cold fuel economy is good, I think you will find the car will use a little oil but this is normal for most Mitsubishi's.
I brought it on the beach a little bit and it's done alright.

Outstanding
We now have had two outlanders. Our first was bought in 2004. When we had eight years with it we sold it and bought another.
The great things are it is:
- practical;
- excellent value; and
- ultra reliable.
You might not like:
- the looks. It is not exactly FUGLY but neither is it going to wow your friends.
- the lack of grunt. They seemed to be setup for economy rather than the grunt. Having said that you can always put it in manual mode which appears to do the trick.

Love it!
We bought this car new and have loved every minute of it. It handles well and is extremely comfortable as both driver and passenger. We fit our three kids along the backseats (two are in car seats). It is reasonably fuel efficient considering we do a lot of small trips (around 10l/100km). Would recommend this for families!

GOOD CAR BUT COULD BE BETTER 2009 VR VR OUTLANDER
I sold my beloved 2006 Subaru outback premium of 6 years to buy this car and although its a decent machine I can't help but find a few faults with it compared to the mighty Subaru. I wanted the v6 as I'm not a fan of cvt automatics and that is the only auto option behind the 4 cylinder and as a mechanic I have seen too many cvt issues. Issue 1 with the v6 outlander is the v8 fuel consumption. Its not good enough today to only get on average 15 litres per hundred kms around town and higher if you feel like giving it a flogging. I'd rather have...Read more
a v8 commodore wagon for the same fuel usage. Issue 2 is the V6 engines lack of bottom end grunt. To be fair I knew they were a little weak in the torque department down low but its worse than I thought in everyday use and you are constantly using the little flappy paddle steering wheel mounted shifters to have it in the right gear for some decent go. The engine loves a rev and actually puts out a decent exhaust note when given some juice and goes well enough up high but can simply be a bit painful around town. Issue 3 is the 6 speed automatic gearbox which constantly changed up and down gears due to this lack of torque and honestly even on a flat surface can change 10 times between 4th and 6th gear just maintaining 60-80kph speeds on a slight incline. Now for the good stuff and its the rest of the car, plenty of room, comfortable on smooth roads (not so much on rougher stuff), good looking and ours is the iron bark brown colour which looks the goods. I'd recommend the car and the 3 issues mentioned are annoying but can be overlooked if need be. Solid car but I miss the Subaru outback which I rate as a much better car.1 comment

I love my outlander!
I have a ZH auto 2.4lt. It's great on fuel, we travel a fair bit to visit the in laws and it feels safe and secure on the open road. My favourite thing about the car is the fold down part on the boot. I have to pick up a lot of stock and supplies for work and it's so much easier to slide on the plastic strips. I had a 2008 outlander and regretted selling it almost immediately. I don't think I will change cars until this one dies, then I might try an challenger! But it'll definitely be another Mitsubishi. The dash is simple and well laid out, seats are comfy and I love that the back seats recline.

Proximity key.
Hi I have had the misfortune to break one of my proximity keys for my Outlander. This is just the key fob that goes in your pocket and you can drive the car without taking it out. Also you can open the car by just touching the door handles. Very nice feature. However a new on is quoted at $500 dollars plus. WHAT. I can buy a new iPad for that and it does a hell of a lot more than start the car. What is this surely OVER PRICING of a, by comparison, simple electronic part. Don't Mitsubishi want to have repeat customers. If it feels wrong, at leas...Read more
t this wrong, it surely is. Thanks for listening. Also my headlight Lenz has clouded over and the door handles have deteriorated. The console has lost some of the silver covering Otherwise it is one of the best card Ibhave owned I would consider another. One if the trimmings were improvedSimilar opinion? First time SUV
bought a 2011 ZH Outlander about 4 weeks ago. The model is XLS and I find it extremely comfortable for my wife and myself as we are late 60's. Everything is easy to operate and the auto is extremely smooth with that paddle action on the steering wheel when you revert to manual operation. The 2.4 is OK on the fuel so at this stage very happy with the purchase and also the yard I purchased it from.
After travelling to Queensland and doing 5850Kms I found the seats gave my wife and I a sore backside and back. Purchased lambswool seat covers and it did improve on the way home. Mechanically very sound with no problems at all and averaged 9.2 l/ 100kms.

Excellent
I purchased the vehicle 2nd Hand, and I've had it for more than 6 months now. Its a 7 seater and really caters for the whole family. The dealer sales person was a little over ambitious, but hey we struck a good deal in the end and I've had no problem since. The good thing about the vehicle is that I find it more economical, and very smooth running.

Vehicle is heavy on fuel and unreliable
I got a used VRX Outlander.
It is extremely heavy on fuel for an automatic v6. Usually spend $70/week in fuel.
Highway cruising gets down to lowest of of 8L/100km (Brisbane to Coolangatta) but averages about 9-10L/100km.
City driving sits at around 12-13L/100km if your light-footed.
MMCS (Mitsubishi Multi Communication System) sucks big time. It's clunky, there is no iPod support and sat nav is difficult to hear/follow/understand as it only come sout of the drivers speaker. Bluetooth call quality is rubbish as it too only comes out of the...Read more
drivers speaker. If you have a rear DVD player, you can use the RCA cables to connect your music player via AUX. I have good bridgestrone tyes on the car ($220 a pop) but the road noise is still quite loud. The windows always sound like they're down slightly and make a windy noise.Similar opinion? t is fun to use. Build quality is good but it does have cheapish door trims but other than that is a very reliable SUV. Ride is firmish but not back breaking. A well serviced example would be ideal for someone wanting a RAV 4 without the RAV 4 price. Service intervals are 15,000km or 12 month's. The seats a fully adjustable and very supportive with great leg room for taller persons. Fuel economy is average but improves by using a premium fuel like 98 octane. I own one and my wife loves it to death after we sold her RAV for it due it's great price and heaps of options and driving position with really quite engine.Similar opinion? ABS warning message and brakes
Bought this Outlander in 2007. Been ok with it except for a constant problem. Since around 3 mths old, the "needs ABS service" message comes on for no reason, followed by "4WD Lock" message.
Almost every time it occurs when I start the car or travel less than 1km. Almost every time I get a scary noise when applying brakes but that goes after a while of driving. Sometimes these lights come on as soon as I turn ignition on, before it even moves.
Had it in for correction 7-8 times, before and after warranty, which they still honour.
Basically t...Read more

ZG-Y09 Mitsubishi Outlander VRX V6 (including Luxury Pack)
I Decide to finally write a review on this little baby ;)
Bought this one Sept 14....by impulse....
Paid $18900 for it with 160k on odometer, and the salesman said i got very good car at very cheap price! (he wasn't wrong), after looking it up i find it worth $28700!!!!
Wow! what a vehicle!. Yeah, bit of road noise but the Fosgate Sound System surely fixes that! lol (doof! doof! doof!)......but it goes like hell but i want to supercharge it. (can anyone address me on this??)

Nice reliable SUV - but no audio
Anyone have a problem with audio no longer coming out of the Fosgate system on a MY09 model.
No Radio, DVD or CD audio. Volume can be cranked up to max and no sound.
I can be without audio for a few months then all of a sudden it will appear but pretty much only until I turn off the car. At other rare times it will just be white noise. Doesn't seem to be a loose wiring issue.

Loved and hated my car!
I bought a 2007 Mitsubishi LS outlander brand new. My first problem was the rear window stop light stayed on continuously. Got that fixed. The front interior lights hum when I turn the ignition off. The back left hand window kept coming out the tracks. And now at 200,000kms the transmission has died and the service fella I spoke to said I was lucky as they don't usually last that long! It will cost between &6,000-$8,000 to fix!

Met Expectations
Last year I wanted to replace my 11 year old X-Trail so I looked at all the possibilitles. I wanted a large station wagon with plenty of room, comfortable, economical, full-size spare, proper handbrake, alloy wheels, upwards opening rear door, farly basic electronics (ie no stop-start or other unnecessary complexities) but including bluetooth, climate control and cruise control. The diesel was too expensive so I went for the 2.0L petrol. Paid about $26,100 for the auto model which was much less than competitors.
Gave me what I wanted at a good price.
Annoying rattle near the interior light fitting. Dealer failed to fix it at 12 month service so I fixed it myself. Took 30 seconds to fix once I knew what the problem was.

Hard to beat the outlander
Bought New in 2009.2.5lt CVT .i have not had a single issue with this soft roader.
I now have 90K on the clock and still not a breakdown in site. local Mitsubishi dealer has got there act together & I would buy another/same car from them. I only have one complaint & that is CVT gearbox on mountain roads is truly horrible.

Reliable, powerful, just works
2011 VR-X V6 done nearly 90K km, no issues, broken parts or warranty claims. Plenty of power, reasonable service costs (about 1/2 of Subaru I previously owned, with similar fuel economy to 2.5 4-cyl Outback). Would buy again if they still made them (no more, only the PHEV is close).
A little noisy on the freeway, transmits through driveline into interior - can't hear the motor over the road roar. Sat nav is a little dated, does not support BT streaming.

Fantastic In Every Way
Couldn't ask for more. Performs well, comfy, tows really well. Pretty powerful especially in sports auto mode. Mitsubishi servicing is a little pricey compared to my Holden. Uses about 10.5L / 100km
Overall a very very good car. Also the back is larger then most other vehicles in its size and also others. We fit more in the back of ours then our friends Kluger.
