Can't keep the fire going all night.. Can't shut down and stop airflow...
- Airslide at bottom off the door is only held on by 2 screws from the back and is super loose.
- Airslide doesn't allow you to stop airflow.
I know the new emissions laws have forced manufacturers to change the design of their heaters so that they can't be completely shut down..
Has anyone made any modifications to reverse what they have changed.. It's frustrating having to re light the fire every morning....
Purchased in June 2021 for $3,565.00.

Glen, I tightened the screws they were already tight.. There is no way you can get decent tension on that flimsy metal plate as it's only fixed on one side.. Therefore the Airslide will always be able... Read more

Something seriously wrong with this heater
We purchased out Nectre in February 2016 from Pot Belly Stove Co and paid to have the installation completed. The heater has never successfully worked. Initially we were told it was the wood we were using. Have tried dry wood and the the heater over the next two years has struggled to heat 5 squares. Fan is noisy and rattles on medium and high. In May this year the baffle fell down and we replaced. Worked okay for a couple of months but baffle is buckled again and this seems to affect the heating and burning ability. Had a Coonara in our...Read more

The Nectre Mk2 wood heater
We used the The Nectre Mk2 as in insert for our old fireplace, just cut the legs to suit the opening and works a treat. We have had this wood heater for 4 years now not just for heating but for cooking as well and are very happy with its performance, plus its Australian made.

Good Aussie Built Quality!
We purchased A Nectre MKII with the fan option from BBQ's Galore Forster in 2018. We bought it for our newly built house in Elizabeth Beach that has a large, 5m x16m (80sqm) open kitchen, dining, living area with floor to ceiling windows and glass doors on 3x sides. The heater is obviously well built with quality iron, steel and other components and workmanship. It was easy to install. Its features allows a fire to be easily lit, and it breathes and draws real well and the heat is soooo amazing. The efficiency specs etc stacked up, the sales te...Read more
am were incredibly helpful and answered all of my probing questions. They knew fire places, not just warehousing and selling them. Just wanted to put it out there that if you want a quality Aussie Made product that will be efficient for the space you want heated then check out Nectre Combustion Heaters. They are not the cheapest but would easily have to be the best I have seen on the market and I have confidence that it will last a long time. These things are often built or shipped to order so plan a little ahead and don't sell out to cheaper OS made units off the floor at retail outlets. Thanks Nectre and keep true to your product - quality is paramount and something to be proud of! Dan Morgan - Elizabeth BeachPurchased in October 2021 for $3,738.00.

Hey Suzie and Soph, just a note that most stand alone heaters/flus make a clicking noise as they heat up or cool down as this is the part of the physics of expanding/contracting metal exposed to heat.... Read more
Ones placed in fireplaces and utilizing chimneys usually insulate the noise a little I have never had any debris fly out of the door holes on lighting and only have them open unitl the kindling has caught on the first small log. Usually if I ever had any popping or fizzing of timber, kindling or logs that is due to them not being dry enough or excessive resin/sap in the timber. Re the glass. I too had a fracture in the door glass corner but this was early in after purchase and Nectre replaced it foc. I believe this can happen when the bracket screws are a little too tight and again expansion causes the tension. Also different timber burns at different temps so possibly an extremely hot fire expanded the bracket further than usual? Overall a great fireplace though. Certainly the most efficient and quick to light and heat I have ever owned.GLEN D.Nectre
The heat "ticking" can be eliminated by loosening the two bolts that support the top air slide cover inside the top, front of the firebox.

Not the best unit by far.
We bought this fire in 2006. We noticed immediately that it has the MOST annoying loud clicking sound when it is running. This is some kind of expansion issue and can be 'felt' through the metal. It happens on heating, on cooling, and whenever something changes like a log moving. It can only be temporarily stopped by levering hard between the top plate and the slot above the door with a bar.
This fire is very dangerous because sparks come out of the air holes at the bottom of the door when the vent is open on starting. Even though air is going ...Read more

Pretty happy with this heater.
We bought a Nectre Mk2 nearly seven years ago and it has done a fabulous job of heating our old, very draughty weatherboard farm house. It runs 24/7 through the winter. The baffle has warped but not to the point of needing replacement yet. All other components are still in great condition. We've had no rusting or glass breaking issues that other people have complained of. We do replace the door seal every 1-2 years which makes a big difference to the fuel efficiency.

About to buy our 3rd Nectre heater! Just love them.
We are about to buy our 3rd Nectre.
In more than 35 yrs of wood fires Nectre has out performed the competitors (and we have had a few as we have moved around!).
We installed a Nectre MkII in our last house. We were a little concerned that it wouldn’t heat the space which was huge however it was fantastic. You do however need to use good, well seasoned hardwood (but that applies to any wood Fire). I love the controls although I did find the door handle too hot at times.
It does go all night but only if you stack it and burn it correctly. ...Read more

Fantastic love it
We have had our LE 2 for 17 years. We have burnt all sorts of rubbish wood in it. We have to replace baffles and the lugs burnt off but this is due to using unseasoned wood and old pallets and is no reflection of the quality. We are so excited by the release of the Big Bakers Oven and this will be our replacement heater when we are ready to replace our current one.

Glass cracked.
We had our Nectre M2 installed in our new home for 4 weeks. We placed a log in the fire box. It rolled forward and cracked the glass. We contacted our supplier and Nectre directly and were told basically it was bad luck. Not covered by Warranty. Cost us over $100 to replace

Rust issue
My nectre mk2 heats our house really well especially if I have really seasoned hard wood. We often even have to really turn the heat down when using redgum that I have left over from the retaining wall we replaced.
However we have had 2 major issues so far and the unit is only 1 year old. We had the door replaced as the cast iron began to peel within 6 months. Now I have noticed that the firebox is already rusty and the baffle plates are peeling. I'm waiting to hear from Nectre about what they are going to do.

Nectre Mk 2
I bought a Mk2 3 years ago. After one year the baffle plate dropped out because the lugs that hold it on had burned away. The brick retainer lasted only one year and steel has been flaking away at the back of the box. I believe this is poor quality.

Heats efficiently but let down by poor quality and durability
I bought a Nectre MkII in Jan 2002 based on my experience with a Nectre Baker's Oven and a review of one by an architect.
Whilst it is an efficient heater the quality of finish and its durability detracted from my overall experience.
The door is slightly warped (from the get go) and leaves a small gap between it and the face of the heater.
The heater began to rust within the first few years. Great patches of metal drop off on the inside. The door, hinges, and flue collar have all progressively rusted.
The initial fan inside the unit was subject of a product recall. I only found out about this by chance (Google search). I was not advised by Nectre.
I would not buy this brand again.

Shemiah F.asked
The metal pins that hold the baffle in place have deteriorated and the baffle drops down . Is this a part /parts that can be replaced?, Nectre heater is roughly 5-6 yrs old . Considering the purchase price I am really hopeful that it can be fixed.

This didn't happen on our fire, but the baffle itself burned away and sagged. I can only suggest getting someone with a welder to weld 2 new pins, maybe to the side of the existing pin projection. A good source of the steel is the Y-shaped temp roadsign supports that the roadies leave littered all over the verges after a road repair. This should be quite easy for a hobby welder to achieve.
Suzie
Thank you for your response, yes I am now leading towards finding someone to weld new bits on, as looking at it closely that appears to be the only option. We are on our second baffle the first was as you described. Other than this issue the fire has been great.

Hi Shemiah F. you can order a set of replacement Bolt-On Baffle Lugs from your local Nectre dealer. The Product code is NBBL.

Mk2.
We are building a new house and this will be our primary source of heating so basically on for 3 months straight.
I was convinced on this model when speaking with sales however some of the reviews make me nervous.
In short im after a quality heater that will last, no smoke and will maintain a clear glass obviously to a point i know.
Any thoughts would be great.
Cheers mick.

No smoke and a clean glass will depend on the quality of the wood you are burning. The type of the wood and the height of the flue will vary your burn time. The higher the flue the quicker the unit will burn as the draw of the flue increases. Talk to any of the Nectre dealers and I'll think you'll find they have vey few issues with the Nectre Mk 2. A solid Australian made product.
I have this model and find it awesome re heating a very large open kitchen/dining/living area. We got the fan option on a pedestal. Try and have a straight flu and as high as possible 2.7m ceiling or even better raked ceiling down to 2.7m. Maximises draw and flu acts as a heating medium as well as the fire box. Also consider installing a ceiling fan with a summer and winter setting (rotation option) somewhere central to the heated area as this will help distribute the rising hot air back into the living area. Very efficient and effective.
Seasoned hardwood minimises smoke and improves burn quality etc but at the end of the day there is still a little smoke associated with any fire. If flu is clean smoke usually only lingers with start up until air heats up and flu draw kicks in and usually only when you reopen the door to adjust or add timber. Re glass staying clean. Quality of wood impacts greatly on this and how fast you burn your fire. If you close the flu down the fire burns slower and regardless of wood type partially burnt carbon will end up on the glass. A great way to clean this is every 2-3 fires, get some damp kitchen paper dip it in the ash in the fire box and scrub in circles until the glass cleans up then wipe off smear with clean kitchen paper. Works a treat and is easy and quick (2min) to do just before lighting and before residue builds up too much.

I have the same problem as ChrisP July 9 2018. Whenever I open the door smoke billows out and I have checked that the wood is dry. This Nectre replaces a 30 year old model but the previous one had a single baffle that balances on 2 metal spokes. Any ideas?

GLEN D.Nectre
The first action would be to check that both baffle plates have been installed correctly and are in the right position. Check that there is sufficient height in the flue to supply enough draught. Also check that there is not a soot/creosote build up on the smaller top baffle as this is positioned close to the top of the firebox and could be restrictive and cause the issue. Check that the flue is not blocked. Check that the cowl is correctly positioned and not compressed. The lower baffle should be all the way to the back of the firebox sitting on the lug, in the centre, above the secondary air holes.

Afternoon Jess,
By tightening the screws it will put more tension on the air slide and ler less air in around the slide. The small spring handle on the front of the door should not wobble up and down.... Read more
The flue height may also have an effect on the burn rate. Regards
